49ers had the 2nd worst trade of the decade. The worst was the DeShaun Watson trade. Both were about as bad as it gets.

Frankly, I think the Lance trade was much, much worse. Because that team was on the cusp of a championship and that horrific trade set them back big time. They gave Lance the starting job and he looked awful; only a fortuitous leg injury bailed them out of that disaster. The Lance era ended as quickly as it began and they went back to Jimmy G, but the damage was done. They wasted a couple seasons trying to figure out their QB situation when they had a championship caliber roster. They recovered pretty quickly by finding Purdy, but just imagine what that roster would have looked like with another 3 first round picks, in the middle of their SB window, which is now closing.

As for the Browns and the Watson trade, yes, it was ruinous, but it's not like the Browns were going places. And while Watson's off the field behavior ruined his career, at least he had shown some ability on the field before that scandal broke.

It was a huge gamble at the time. They rolled the dice and likely did so as a result of the Rams F-those picks hoopla.

It's just so frustrating that they got bailed out with the Purdy pick
A move like that should have crippled the franchise
Purdy might be the one that “cripples” them if he ends up being the next Daniel Jones.

Good enough to earn a big contract on a stacked roster… a noodle arm on an average roster.

I feel Purdy is much better than Jones, although Jones arm strength is better. Purdy, IMO, is very smart seems to make the right plays and runs to keep the chains moving. Until Purdy totally fails, I need to feel the wounds before I am a believer.

I'll admit Purdy is a good quarterback. But he's far from elite like some of their fans think he is. I'd rate him somewhere between 10-15. With the changes in roster we need to see how he looks this year to have a better idea. In the NFC I'd rate Stafford, Goff, Daniels and Hurts ahead of him. He's on par with Mayfield, Prescott and Love in my opinion. Mayfield has better numbers but he doesn't manage the game as well as Purdy.

Two things saved Shanahan's job. Purdy and Lance's injury. If he benched Lance after almost dumping Garoppolo there woulda been some serious repercussions at that time. The injury saved him from that. I watched the game he was injured. Shanahan's QB1 and he called several QB keepers up the middle. Almost like he was trying to get him hurt.

As much as I hate to admit it, Purdy is a good qb. Not great but he’s not going to be a game wrecker. As long as Shanny is the coach he can move that team.

Purdy is really good and I expect the 9ers to be good if they're healthy.

Much like the Rams.. they have an organization that I expect to produce a winner, year after year.

But the Rams are better right now, imo.

Purdy makes the majority of his throws. They are well coached. Like every team they are now going to be in CAP Hell with the deals they just signed. Ed Debartolo isn't there to cook the books.

I'm thinking he's more like Alex Smith when they built a better roster around him. Good enough to win games. Good enough to make a few playoff appearances. But that is the ceiling. Unless they surround him with another stacked roster after they get through the next couple years of cap problems.

But the odds of another roster full of guys similar to McCaffrey, Bosa, Deebo, Kittle, Warner, Greenlaw, Aiyuk, Williams and Ward are probably slim. Purdy needs that kind of talent and coaching. If Shanahan ever gets fired Purdy's gonna struggle big time. This year they get a reprieve with the weakest schedule in the league.

Purdy's cap hit the next 3 years.

9m, 25m, 31m.

No cap pressure from his contract the first three years.

Purdy wishes he had half the arm talent Alex Smith had.

There’s the window, I suppose.
By then the 9ers will have had to find replacements for wiener, ayuck, mccafe, tw, bozo, and kibble—all on rookie deals.

IOW, they’re gonna have to start drafting like the Rams.
