I think of the Proehl catch and the walkoff TD by Flipper as 2 perfectly thrown passes that were impossible to defend

Some of the throws mentioned in this thread were great plays that will be memorable for a lifetime ... But, they were not great throws. The Warner-to-Bruce 77-yard TD in the Super Bowl and the Staubach-to-Pearson Hail Mary would fall into that category, in my opinion. They were both under-thrown, with the receivers making great adjustments.

Also think it's impossible to identify one throw over decades of NFL action. That being said, considering the magnitude of the situation, the Stafford-to-Kupp No-Look in the Super Bowl would be on my short list.

From that view yes. But from the multiple views they had that day it looked like his right foot came up by the time he controlled the ball and his right foot rested against the bottom of his left foot. In the old time tag game of electricity I guess you could say he had both feet down.

The 1974 Divisional Round win over the Redskins was the Rams' first playoff victory in two decades, with a late Isaiah Robertson interception return for a touchdown to clinch the victory.

In the 1975 Divisional Round victory over the Cardinals, Lawrence McCutcheon rushed for a record 203 yards; and there were a bunch of highlight plays, including a Jack Youngblood interception return for a touchdown.

The Rams upset the Cowboys in Dallas in 1976, with a great late fourth quarter defensive stand. A 4th down Dallas completion was inches short at the Rams' ten.

The above 1979 win in Dallas was another upset victory that was the final game of Roger Staubach's career. The Rams and Cowboys played each other in the playoffs in 1973, 1975, 1976, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1983 and 1985. Eight times in thirteen seasons. Dallas won 3 of the first 4 but the Rams then won 3 of the next 4.

The Rams wins in 1983 and 1985 were a ton of fun. The 1983 win in Dallas was a big upset. That one featured three Vince Ferragamo TDs and a long Leroy Irvin interception return. In 1985, the Rams shut-out the dopey Cowboys, and Dickerson broke McCutcheon's record with 248 rushing yards.

That's true but the Rams had a great late-season-run in 1989.

After a brutal loss on a Monday Night, where the Rams blew a 17-0 lead; and Joe Montana connected with John Taylor on TWO 90-plus yard-TDs, the Rams had to close-out the season with two victories to make the playoffs.

After beating the Jets, the Rams traveled to the east coast and rallied to beat the Patriots, holding-on with New England inside the Rams' ten late in the game. That sent the Rams to Philadelphia for the Wild Card Game ... their second east coast trip in two weeks. Buddy Ryan (major asshole) and his Eagles were a big favorite but the Rams took a quick fourteen-point-lead and then held-on late. That put the Rams into the Divisional Round and sent them to New York ... three east coast trips in three weeks. Again the Rams were under-dogs but rallied to force OT to set-up the Everett-to-Anderson game winner.

Rams were destroyed in the NFC Championship Game but that was a fantastic five-week-run to get there.

There were 17 seasons from 1973 through 1989.

The Rams were a playoff-team in 14 of those seasons, when fewer teams made the post-season.

Two of the three years the Rams did not make the playoffs were the strike shortened seasons of 1982 and 1987; and those were two fucked-up years.

For almost two decades, the Rams went to the Playoffs almost every (non-fucked-up) year. It was frustrating in the 1970s because the Rams should have gone to a couple more Super Bowls but it was a great time to be a Rams' fan.
