McVay looking smarter with every turnover.

And I was happy for Goff in the first half, didn't want to see this.
Look at Buffalo 1st half vs 2nd half last year. Look at Tampa Bay 1st half vs 2nd half. Inconsistency is the commonality for his entire career. He wasn't pressured at all tonight by GB either, Zadarius Smith just went on IR and they had no pass rush. Goff played relatively well but still had 2 turnovers and zero points in the 2nd half.

Rams want to get to next level. Couldn’t do that with Goff. Yes facing zero pressure in the first half he played well. Like many QBs would. Then he imploded when faced with pressure in the second half. We’ve seen that before.

I'd talk shit but I did it too all through 2018. In fact we all have our window, well most of us, of overlooking his issues. It's moreso a question of how much did you endure and still give him a pass before you allowed yourself to see it.
I kept hoping he would grow. I was worried after 19, but was sure last year that he wasn’t gonna be enough.

I was a big supporter up until the end of 19.

He has a very good OL. He has 2 really good RBs and great TE. But he has two average imo Wrs. The problem with Detroit is a horrendous Defense.

I was impressed with Goff’s improved pocket awareness in the first half and flabbergasted by him taking off and running for some big gains. Why didn’t he do that in LA?

I was beginning to think maybe the naysayers were right and he needed a change of scenery. Then the second half happened.

Honestly the play calling did him no favors. That throw on a pivotal 4th and 2 was extremely stupid. Shouldve stuck to the run and allowed PA to open up the field for Jared, just like how he played under McVay.

Poor Detroit has to do everything right to win a game.

Goff played okay again, a mix of good and bad. But that defense just gives up a ton. 76 points in two weeks... what offense can keep up with that?!?

Glad to see Goff play lights out in first half. But those turnovers in the second half... no bueno.

The INT he threw? I dont really have a problem with it. Trying to make a play, tried to force it. But the 2 fumbles? Yikes

Agreed. His yearly ints are on the low side actually, for how many yards he throws for. It's those Fumbles that do him in. He did recover the one and both appeared due to the rain - but still, for a guy that has been having trouble with fumbles it's not good.

That's what I'm hoping will be one of the bigger differences between him and Stafford.

The pick that Stafford threw on Sunday was really no different from picks we've seen from Jared, but Stafford not fumbling the ball when he got drilled from behind I think was a relief. Hanging on a little too long and missing a better potential play, it happens, it'll happen to Stafford just as it happened to Goff, not feeling the pressure from behind, same thing. If Stafford can hang onto the ball when he gets drilled at those times then I'll breathe a lot easier, because that seemed to be where most of Jared's turnovers came from. We'll see how the season progresses, but I am hopeful after Sunday it wont be as much of a momentum killer.

Except when you really watch that play again, you see he had his slot WR wide open in the middle of the field, and a split second later his RB Williams on a check down wide open for a 1st down. Both Peyton and Eli Manning commented on it. Literally two completely wide open targets for a 1st down. Instead he locks onto his first read. I thought his throw was pretty decent actually, back shoulder and gave him a chance. But it was the wrong choice in the progression as he never went to a 2nd or 3rd read and he wasn't under any pressure from the rush. Still one of the weaker parts of his game.

Thing is - Goff usually played better in the second half than the first half.

One of the rare times it was reversed.

In addition, neither one of his fumbles was due to pressure. He just can't handle a wet football.

Think cold and wet footballs are killer for him. Good thing he played in LA and now Detroit where he really doesn't have to worry about wet footballs except on the road.

This was the kind of bad decision that drove me nuts last year.

But at least with the rams he had to get hit before fumbling

I wish Goff well. But he's no longer a Ram. So it really isn't a big deal one way or the other for me. I do feel for the guy. He's in a tough situation on a rebuilding team that will be challenging for the number one pick. And they'll probably pick a quarterback to replace him.
