This could be nothing or a trend, but here's the Rams' first half scoring in season openers under McVay:

2017 - 27 points vs. Colts
2018 - 10 points vs. Raiders
2019 - 13 points at Panthers
2020 - 13 points vs. Cowboys
2021 - 13 points vs. Bears
2022 - 10 points vs. Bills
2023 - 7 points at Hawks
2024 - 3 points at Lions

Overdue for a 35 point first half, right?
Yikes, last 2 years were very slow starts. We did pick it up in the game last year against Lions even after our WR's went down.

Amen. The Rams "vaunted McVay offense" has been pedestrian for years. And yes, I get that there have been injuries.... It's football. All teams have injuries.

The scheme is what worries me. Gurley was the main ingredient in the last formidable Rams offense, and he's not coming back. Maybe Adams can be a spark? Maybe a better TE Corp?? This will be a telling season for sure!! GO RAMS!!
Very Logical post, have worried about the same basically. The money is on the defense to be bad ass. If they are average then maybe 8- 10 wins, if the defense is on their game? 12–13 wins.

Not sure this is a great matchup for us. The Texans have an amazing pass rush. An amazing defence overall, really. And our LT has gotten almost 0 reps this off-season and is not even a lock to start apparently. With Stafford seemingly gimpy and getting almost 0 off-season work himself, all while we try and integrate a new WR2 in Adams. And like some others, I too worry about the C position. On top of all this, the Rams have a habit of starting the season slow lately.

Hoping for the best and I am still picking the Rams to win, but not with high confidence.

The most important thing, I think, is to escape this game with Stafford and Alaric Jackson taking 0 damage while getting acclimated to live bullets. We have the "weakest" schedule we have had in years, and the best roster we have had in a few years now at least on paper. The past few seasons have shown us it is not how you start, it is how you finish, just in case anyone needed a reminder with the Rams starting 1-4 only to come storming back to win the division and be 1 play from beating the Eagles to likely represent the NFC in the Super Bowl (and dare I say win it seeing how KC looked vs. the Eagles in comparison to our Rams?!). Every game and win is important in the NFL. We "need" the W. But I wouldn't panic about an 0-1 start vs. what I think is a very good, very underrated Texans team that was a playoff squad last year and should at least on paper be improved. I would panic if Stafford or A. Jackon go down for the count.

The Rams will go as far as the OL takes them. When not pressured Stafford was the 8th best QB in the league. When pressured the only guys worse were Levis, Rattler, Flacco. Wilson, Mishew, Cooper Rush and Daniel Jones. That's troubling and yes when pressured last year Goff was statistically better than Stafford.

It's all on 9 and the OL.

Not sure this is a great matchup for us.

Definitely not a great matchup. This is a playoff level opener for our OL, who generally come out of the gate lethargic as fuck and don't hit their full stride until late Nov or Dec. If we're going to start fast we need them to be in good form.

Hoping for the fast start. Really tired of shitty football for the first month as the starters get their preseason work in. And the fact is an OL who doesn't start fast risks greater chance of injury for an old pocket QB. Stafford's a baller, but if the pocket is not there it means low scoring offensive output, losses, and of course the injury risk which is my greatest concern.

Agreed Texans are good and a bad matchup. But then again, getting them early is much better. They have a new OL, rookie WR who will get better as year progresses, Mixon out, etc. I’d rather play them now than latter in the season.
