Rams waiting to decide whether to activate Terrell Lewis this week

The Los Angeles Rams could use some pass-rush help, and they might get it with Terrell Lewis eligible to come off the non-football injury list at any moment. They’re not going to rush the rookie back, however.
Sean McVay said on Wednesday that the Rams will monitor him in practice the next two days before deciding whether to activate him for Week 5 against Washington. That puts an added emphasis on the next two days of practice for the rookie out of Alabama. McVay also said they’ll see how the next two days go before possibly activating OLB Terrell Lewis to the 53-man roster.

If the Rams do activate Lewis and add him to the 53-man roster, they’ll have to make a corresponding move. If they deem Lewis not ready to return to action yet in Week 5, they might take another week to decide, since they have 21 days from last week. Lewis practiced with the Rams during training camp but was placed on the NFI list after the season began. He underwent a knee scope due to fears from the team that he may have an infection from a previous surgery, which he did not.

I will say I don't know who this guy is. Might just be a picture where he happened to be standing amongst starters and an assumption was made. But the official Rams twitter shared it first so assuming he is at least practicing in full and would mean he'll be activated. /shrug

Hmmm, how can an impact player just disappear? I've been saying why for weeks. The defensive scheme is why. Samson trained his whole career to play one position, the OLB SAM in a 3-4 hybrid system.

In comes Staley with his variation of a 3-4. You can easily see it's not an attacking, penetrating style of defense. How the first tipoff is that the NT plays a 0 two-gap technique. Yes the DE and DT both play a one-gap technique but it has the effect of allowing the o-line to focus upon them as a 0 T NT isn't a real pass rush threat.

Staley doesn't use an OLB SAM, and in fact, rarely does his defense cover the flats. His defense is all about read first and then react which allows the advantage to pass to the offense. Watch his pass rush closely and you will see them playing contain first and pressure second. Why do you think AD's impact is down while playing against weak opponents? It's not just Ebukam or Okoronkwo. Staley doesn't turn his pass rush loose until the offense is around the Ram's 40. That is such a weak defensive scheme. He's playing not to lose not to win. Against top opponents that will get shredded and the offense might not be able to keep up.

Just like the changes in the offensive o-line blocking scheme has made a huge difference in their play with the exact same personnel is proof of what I'm saying. Staley's scheme for his front 7 is causing the problem. He doesn't seem to know how to match his personnel for the defense he wants to play. This is symptomatic of a rookie DC who is trying to fit the players into his scheme, not play the scheme to fit the players he has. Unless Staley changes his defense will get shredded by the top offenses. When it happens everyone will say it's the lack of player talent the same way they cried about the o-line personnel. I was right about that and I'm right about this.

I think you’d rather things play out in a way that, in your mind, validates your doomsaying, than see the team prove you wrong and succeed.

There’s (at least) one poster like you on every site, it would seem.

We're 2nd in the NFC in points allowed. I think we have the best 2nd half defense in the league.

I see what you're saying but outside of the fact that our defense played very well for the vast majority of the season, one thing that people should remember is that we now have a Defensive coordinator that makes adjustments, but also a DC that is going to game plan for specific opponents.

We have potential stars at LB on a team full of pro bowl talent. Perhaps we should remain patient.

Ebu and Young are both excellent back ups - to my eyes. Good not great and prone to being out played

Kizer OBO Hollis (and Terrell in practice) have all flashed.

Floyd is legit and should be signed long term

Mathews is on the street.

I expect our LB play to improve barring serious injury as the competition thins and the best players take more snaps
