I'm not a cap expert - but could the contract not be structured to where the real cap hits are in future seasons? Not everything contract needs to have a huge signing bonus that is immediately payable. You can guarantee the money in a lot of different ways. Heck - they could extend his current contract - right?

correct, but we already did that with Goff and a couple of other players. Can't do that with them all. Mostly likely we'll do that with Ramsey neeeeeeeeeext year. Whether they are free up space for next year or a player now, I assume we'll find out shortly.

Talib didnt have a cap hit for next year anyway though - right?

So this money we freed up is for this year and this year only. Now we could convert another contract somehow and use money that was going to be for someone else in the future and spend it this year ....

NFL teams seeing so much more value in handling players, picks and cash like the NBA.

I love it.

Really when you think about it you're getting about equal value for the player.

Take Ramsey for example. We gave up 2 1st and a 4th rounder.

The Jags might and I say might hit on ONE of those players that the rams gave up Ramsey for. Maybe they don't hit on any of them. At least know what kind of product we are getting. Now, it's not to say that Ramsey doesn't pull an AB and go off the rails but hopefully the Rams did their due diligence and Ramsey's reps did theirs. I think this deal will work out as He plays the way Wade likes to run his defense. Either way, this is the new NFL and we have Snead to thank for it. He's the one who set the tone.

Snead is packin...

You can roll over unused cap space to the following season - so it is not for this year only, but almost certainly is for next season.

yes and no. If we don't sign another FA then yes the money would roll over to next years cap of course. But lets just wait and see what happens here. I'm sure it wont be long

I liked Talib and thought he was great for this team when healthy. It feels strange to me that are flushing players we were so hopeful for this year, last year.

Rams could extend Ramsey and a big chunk of his signing bonus could be paid out this year. That effectively creates more cap space for them in future off seasons

Very interesting. Very good move by Snead as Talib seemed done for the year. Shout out to Talib for upgrading the secondary last year. Don't know when he got hurt but, he lost something this year. I was hoping he could even be a Ram beyond this year and still being productive.

I trust in the FO but I'm a little bummed that we won't get to see what Talib and Ramsey will look like on the same team together.
We likely weren't going to see it and if we did it was the last 2 weeks of the year.
