So question for everybody. How often were Jones and Wagner on the field together?

On early downs Morris has them playing a Fangio style mixed front. That's with Brown two gapping and everyone else reading and reacting instead of attacking. That is why teams will pass on early downs because they won't get the pressure. Fangio fronts can stop early down runs, but puts the defense at a disadvantage against early passes. That is why I expect Morris to play a base nickel. On early downs he can play Jones and Keir Thomas as their LBs. On passing downs rotate Hampton in and Thomas out. Rotate Brown out on passing downs and Murchison in.

Early downs
DL read/react
DE Hoecht
NT Brown (2 gap 0T)
DT Donald
JACK Young

LBs Jones, K. Thomas

CBs Durant, Rochell
in the box SS Fuller
Safeties Lake, Yeast

Passing Downs
DL 1 gap attacking
DE Hoecht
1T Murchison
DT Donald
JACK Young

LBs Jones, Hampton

SCB Hodges-Tomlinson
CBs Durant, Rochell
Safeties Lake, Yeast

Christian Rozeboom and Jake Hummel are the other two off-ball-LBs on the roster right now.

I was hoping one or two of the UDFAs would be ILBs that I read about as draft-eligible but I am unfamiliar with the guys signed thus far.

Maybe Travin Howard re-signs. Small and not durable but was active and around the ball. There are some quality inside, off-ball LBs in the NFL that were late round picks or undrafted free agents. Fingers crossed.
We traded back after To' to' o and Pappeo went right before us I think the Rams wanted one of the 2.

Pappeo was more of the same. Sideline to sideline speed with limited size

I think the DT situation is much more concerning than the LB situation myself. A’Shawn will be missed.

ILB is good to go. IMO. It's gonna be all about Jones.

I don't think that's correct Malibu.

The Rams had pick #167 (compensatory pick). They started the day with it but traded it to Houston for picks #174 and #259. The Texans then used that pick #167 to select Henry To'oTo'o.

Where is Kendrick in your scenario? I know you have been high on him.

Well it is only May 1st. They have a lot of time to pick up a big bodied DL or 2 before the season starts. Offseason is a long ways from over

OK ... I am unfamiliar with Square, Anyalebechi and Smenda. Cool names though.

Square was a force of nature for Kentucky in 2021. Didn't do as well in 2022, which probably cost him being drafted.

Smenda is another Wake Forest defender who was the guy in the middle. Lots of tackles, but I don't know if he's good enough in coverage.

Anyalebechi interests me. He played for a FCS team in Incarnate Word. Won both Defensive Player of the Year and Football Student-Athlete of the Year in 2022. Was all over the field. Looks like we may have found a gem.

Realistically, this is a full blown re-build year, despite what the Rams' front office is saying. So there are going to be some aspects of the roster that need big-time improvement, even going the season after this one. I suspect that run defence is going to be one of those. The Rams likely have a plan. But that plan surely can't, in any reasonable conception of it, involve the run defence being very strong. How could it? We don't have the horses. And we don't have the cap space or trade capital to acquire much else. Perhaps we can scoop up a UDFA or bargain bin FA that plays outstandingly. But those lottery tickets rarely pay out. More likely they hope to just find someone relatively competent that way.

If I know Morris he will try to trot him out opposite Durant, but he simply lacks the speed to play boundary. His attitude needs a major adjustment as well. His lack of effort at times warranted a smack on the head which he never got. He can play Dime DB for all I care. When OLB Hampton can outrun him what the fuck is he doing as a DB? You have to wonder what Morris sees in him.

There will be some cheap vets let go during camp cuts and probably some rookies with upside that teams try to sneak onto their practice squad through waivers. The Rams will be 6th in line on the waiver wire and should take advantage of that.

Maybe we can find some spare change somewhere and bring in a Brockers (32) or Suh (36).

I think Brockers would be a great stepping stone for this young D line.
I would welcome him back with open arms.

Plus...I hate watching teams run all over us for 3 hours, more than anything.

Yeah back in the short years I played, from pop warner to high school days, there was simply nothing worse than being run on. Absolutely demoralizing for a defender.

So I can endure a lot of BS as a fan but my defense being run on makes my blood boil.
