I bet Snead listened to calls about him, but no one offered anything remotely tempting.

Probably the Jets GM was sniffing for a bargain and learned that Rams would consider a Stafford trade if enough first round picks were involved (bc there is a price for everything). Then he used that to try to leverage the Packers re Rodgers' price.

Eventually Lombozo hears about it (fourth hand) and tries to cash it in like he's an "insider".

Of course nothing is impossible. For instance, the Chiefs could trade Creed Humphrey for Tutu Atwell. Not impossible.
Exactly. Which supports my issue with the original poster who said that trading Stafford was impossible under the cap. Thanks.

LOL Fine you go clear off $54 million off our salary cap and tell me how possible that is :D Arguing this is just silly financially we cannot trade him this year. Impossible improbable implausible whatever the hell you want to call it financially it just doesn't work. Then once you do that we need at least vet minimums to replace the players cut or traded. We need money for draft picks. We need money for our own free agents. Yeah go ahead and that cap space done and tell me how our team is.

You said trading him was impossible. You were wrong. I was nice about it.

The lack of respect some of you guys are showing Mike Lombardi is shocking to me. Shocking!

I just came from a walk in midtown Manhattan, and saw Mike Lombardi standing on a soap box, screaming to the World that the Rams were trying to trade Stafford, and Goff couldn’t play QB in the NFL.

At one point, Lombardi yelled … ‘You have to listen to me! I used to bring Belichick his morning coffee. Light and Sweet!’

‘That was the nickname Bill gave me … Light and Sweet!’

I felt pity for Lombardi, and gave him 50 cents.

Just to be clear, the above is a harmless joke.

I didn't give the Fat Piece-of-Shit fifty cents.

I'm definitely not validating or believing the rumor in any way, BUT, if this was the case, there is no way that McVay doesn't have some other plan in place. I.E. acquiring ARod (which he tried to do at one point already), making a play for LJax (unlikely with salary and pick demands), going forward with Mayfield (most likely IMO, but not sure how viable), getting a FA like G-string (meh) / Darnold (intriguing) / Brissett / M.White / etc.

Again, its probably less then 1% chance this is true at all. Others calling about Stafford, sure.

If this had more truth to it it would be mentioned on other sites.

seems not very legit.

They tried, but Snead refused the deal, insisting the Chiefs include Mahomes and Kelce as part of the deal. Atwell is the GOAT!

I will just say that I love Matt Stafford and appreciate everything he did for us during that SB run. Huge fan of his. But he needs to play better in 2023 or his ass will be sent packing like everyone else the Rams have cast aside.

Hard truth there. Sure the protections were shit. Sure the wideouts were out of synch and some looked like they didn't know wtf they were doing half the time. Sure this is a rebuild year for the Rams. But he needs a big bounce-back season here. This isn't Detroit.

Obviously we can trade him anybody can see and know that. Financially it's pretty difficult oh add in the $15 million we're over the cap right now we'd need to clear off just under $70 million cap space on a cap that's at $241 million. So yeah if it gets you excited go ahead and argue semantics and ignore the financial reality of getting rid of Stafford.

You know they don't have to take the cap hit this year. I've never suggested that, so you can stop straw-manning that point.

No we're not that defeats the whole purpose when dealing with a QB. It pushes compensation back to next year, increases his guarantees to us if we do not in fact trade him and pushes back even greatly hurts our chance to get his replacement. Trading him after June 1st is bad for the Rams.
I said that it wasn't a great idea, but it was far from impossible. The team has made it pretty clear that they aren't going to, but if the Rams had wanted to move Stafford, this was probably the only way to do it.

You also can stop providing reasons that it's a bad idea. I don't think it's a good idea either.

Everything has a price. Maybe the Rams were hoping someone would be dumb enough to sell the farm for Stafford? Sort of like the Saints giving up their entire draft for Ricky Williams?

Its not about what the Rams could get for him, it's all about what it dos to their cap. Dead cap hit of near 30 mill (after "savings"). There's just no way I can see them getting under

I agree - there is no way the Rams are trading Stafford unless they move the majority of Kupp and Donald's salaries to 2024 and beyond and I do not see that happening with them trying to get cap space for 2024.
