When neither your RB1 nor your RB2 can stay healthy what you need to do is to replace one of them. Thing is the Rams do value both of them (I don't understand why they are so enamored with Henderson but whatever) so the plan right now is probably to add to the room with someone who can compete for carries. Teams routinely find RBs all over the draft so it's just easier to go draft a guy who fits what you want and add that roster challenge so the top two guys know they don't want to miss too much time.

Still would like to see them add a physical back too but that's a bit of a pipe dream with McVay. Who even if Snead drafted one of those guys wouldn't appreciate him. Good as McVay is I think that's a weakness of his.

I was listening to NFLRadio today and they were saying a couple of front office guys were saying there may not be a RB taken in the first 62 picks. I don't know about that but I'd love it. It would give the Rams the choice of taking a decent one at 104 or 142.

I don’t think McVay was in love with Sony’s game.

Tough runner, always seemed to get positive yards, tough blocker…

I suspect the Ram’s want to find a Sony-like player with a tad more speed.

It may be the pass receiving and he's seen that movie before. 63% is good for a WR. Not so much for a RB. Gurley started out at 80%, 74%, 73%, 73% before dropping off the proverbial cliff at 63%. :wow2:Kamara had an off year this year at 70%, after posting 81%, 77%, 83%, 77%.

Having said that, I love his running style. But if you going to move up to the #1 RB spot because of injury, you gotta catch passes.

Sony was an necessity after losing Cam. Don't think he's an ideal fit for our offense and doubt he's resigned. We have more important holes to fill and after the SB I doubt McVay is in a hurry to run the ball more.

The Rams made it to the SB because Sony gave them a ground game when they had no one. He should be rewarded for doing so. Sony has earned a place on this roster.

Sony isn't complete with no receiving skills.
I hope we wait until our 3rd pick or later for an RB, unless something unimaginable happens. 142 at very earliest

I think if you pay them for what they did it's an approach that's going to bury you. You pay them for what they will do. Sony ran great. Was THE RB room for a while in 2021. But what would be expected of him if signed? Better off going with a rookie because other than blitz pickup, that's a plug and play position from the get go. If you get one who is good in pass pro, all the better.

Wow - did you watch the SuperBowl?
Without Henderson playing the way he did IMO The Rams lose. That 3rd down catch was probably as big as Cooper Kupps 4th down run sweep.

The stats are interesting for SM & DH, going only by numbers SM catches mores passes than I would expect and DH is more productive than usually given credit for.
I feel DH will be given another opportunity to produce and SM will be a casualty, with the allocation of that money toward our recent signings and whatever else may happen at the edge and in the secondary. Lots of RB's in this draft have similar overall value so my guess is we look to the 5th round unless someone they love drops.

I dont think its a comparison of Sony to Henderson receiving wise as much as the fact that Akers hasnt been much of a receiver either, and he isnt going anywhere

I'm not gonna nitpick or over-analyze Sony's abilities. I liked what I saw when he was given several carries a game and he seems like the type of back that builds up momentum. Not just sub him in for a series, throw the ball and sub out. If they sign him back cheap I'm all for it. But does Sony want to be 3rd string is the question. Methinks not.

Robinson could be there, he is ranked outside the top 5 by most. He is the Michel type. Haskins may fit that mold too along with Allgeir.
I think we could get Haskins and possibly Allgeir with our 3rd pick or one of the 5ths.
Haskins is a pretty developed blocker but not a threat as a pass catcher
Allgeir This is likely a target for us as you said, good blocker, good size, good hands, runs physical. He also has a chance to be on the board awhile. If we aren't targeting an RB in the 3rd or 4th this guy could be in horns.

I like some late round/FA guys too McCormick @ UTSA and Borghi @ WSU both have above average hands
Haskins game reminds me a lot of Sony

Robinson ....... 271 att / 1343 yds; 35 rec / 296 yds
Haskins ....... 270 att / 1327 yds; 18 rec / 131 yds

Haskins is more like Sony. Robinson just looks like a brute. Doesn't seem to go down easily. And man when he takes a swing pass, few DBs look willing to tackle him.

Yeah - ok Cam hasn’t been much of a RB of late either. In 2020 Cam flashed when Henderson went down. He showed good hands Imo.You have to remember how young Cam is & Flash back.
Sony was the best pass pro on The Rams,HENDO was average at best,Cam not so much.
It’s my believe if Sony doesn’t resign The Rams need to find a big RB for pass pro.

Robinson is a beast, he and Haskins lack a route tree but can catch that dump off. I like Allgeir too he has a bit more skill as a receiver. They are all 220+ and about 5'11 - 6' 1.
I think we will probably grab an RB in the 5th when they start coming off the board faster. I just don't think they will prioritize it with the first 2 picks. We will see what happens in the coming weeks to affect things

I like Robinson's character too. He was at Alabama 5 years. He was 4th behind guys like Josh Jacobs (1st Rd pick in 2019), Damien Harris (3rd Rd pick in 2019) and Najee Harris (1st Rd pick in 2021). He could have easily transferred somewhere where he could play more. But it was about team. Consequently, whomever drafts Robinson will get a team-oriented productive player with low mileage on his tires. 545 carries over 5 years. 2704 yards, 4.96 yds/att, 29 TDs, 52 receptions, 446 rec. yards, 8.6 y/rec. And it's hard to ignore the quality RBs Alabama has sent to the NFL since 2011. Mark Ingram (1st Rd), Trent Richardson (1st Rd), Eddie Lacy (3rd), TJ Yeldon (2nd), Derrick Henry (2nd), Kenyan Drake (3rd), Josh Jacobs (1st), Damien Harris (3rd) and Najee Harris (1st). Three of those last 4 played 4 years at Alabama because of all the depth they had at RB. I've watched the kid play and he seems like the real deal. The only question is, how long will he last in the draft.....I'd think at least to #104, possibly #142. Some evaluators have him going in the first 3 rounds, some others in the 4th or even 5th. If we got him in the 5th it would be a steal.
