I actually kinda like the depth on the oline right now. If we can resign Dotson and draft a LT we'd be perfectly set. I think we can move on from Noteboom's contract, AJax could be our 5th lineman and play everything but center and we already have some interesting developmental guys.

Now Dline... ooophf, we need an influx there.

Yeah but I think Boom will be a cap casualty next year. We're paying a lot of money for him to ride the bench. Unless the Rams can restructure his deal I don't think he remains a Ram. Can someone who is more educated on player contracts and team cap tell me if the Rams will have a dead money hit on Boom if he's gone next year?

Ravens run a tiple cross or triple posts and two checks going opposite way

receiver ran right at Fuller...he has to match the route and he doesn't know
if the #2 receiver is cutting in or out or stopping

Hye actually recovers a little but it's a speed mismatch and Jackson
makes perfect throw.

What can you do, sometimes the other team wins the rep--and they blocked it
up well, too

Final offensive TD---Rams run a stunt called "poker"
trying to free Aaron Donald

RDE and NT slant left, Donald loops behind
it's just too late, doesn't pop open fast

good thought but Ravens blocked it up

I think we're saying the same thing. Move on from Boom.

Didn't know which way the WR was going to go. A guy is running right at you ... he can go left or right

OR fake right and go left, or fake left and go right ... you can commit until you know and someone can just lean
of turn shoulders a bit and it creates doubt ... had he committed to early the receiver can easily adjust and instead of bing
2 yards open he's 10 yards open.

He's got a $15M deadcap next year. I think they draft a LT in the second or third round as IMO Jackson won't be worth what he will want at LT and rework Joe's contract as a starter at RT. 3 years at $5M/yr with a $1M restructure bonus would be the range I would expect. If Jackson stays he will have to accept a lot less than he's probably expecting.

Havenstein will have a $14.5M cap hit next year and he's 32 while Noteboom is 28. If released they save $6.5M which pays for Noteboom. I think Joe has the talent and feet to play RT. Noteboom played hurt last year and he's played both RG and RT this year which he has done as well as could be expected for a guy playing a new position on the opposite side. Joe has better feet than Havenstein but he needs time to adjust to the change in side.

Looking at his whiff in Sunday's game IMO it's on Dotson who doubled with Shelton when he was supposed to double on the outside with Noteboom to seal off that edge. Shelton didn't need the help. It was clear by the way Noteboom setup he expected Dotson to be there. Instead, Dotson turned inside creating a gigantic hole with Noteboom out of position expecting Dotson to seal off the inside. The greater threat was the edge, I think it was Dotson simply getting the call wrong.

This is part of the internal communication that Noteboom hasn't been a part of, so I think it will improve as they play together. IMO they have a choice to keep Havenstein at $14.5M for a year or restructure Noteboom lowering the Ram's cap hit at the position by which probably would be $9M.

I expect them to extend Dotson and it probably will cost them $4-$6M per year to keep him. I also expect them to pay Shelton as a starting center. Right now he's getting backup rates. They were paying Allen $6M/yr. I see Allen getting released and McAllister becoming their backup center in 2024. I see McClendon as their backup OG and RT. I don't think McClendon has the feet to play LT in the NFL but I don't know if that is a matter of needing better technique or if he has heavy feet like Havenstein. Warren's lack of length would seem to dictate backup OG or perhaps RT.

Jackson will be a Restricted free agent. The Rams can probably retain him for 2024 with a Qualifying Offer.

Love your stuff.
Thanks. I put up evidence of things to save time with the "he said, she said". People on these boards will argue about things that can
be seen on film.

Sure, there can be differences of opinion on things but often, very often, people will make some claim and someone else will say that is not true and back and forth.

With film clips or stills you can back up what you say and people cannot refute it.

Also, it's a learning opportunity for me and others. I have had experience with this, so
when you hit people in the eyes with the facts it cuts down on falsehoods.

To people of good faith, honest discussions can take place.

His dead cap next year is 15 million, so yeah he isnt going anywhere.

He is a good sixth man.

Not the way I see it.
Yeah I went back and watched it again.

It's not even a great route at all by Zay... he approaches him and even slows some on his break, making his move on the post.

It's pretty clear which way the receiver is breaking and there is still a decent cushion there.

Looks to me like Fuller's eyes were on Jackson too long.

Also he has no help to that side of the field, on his other shoulder he has two defenders for help.

I get the concept of a receiver running full speed at you and how difficult it is to match directions - but I feel like this was below

average coverage in a critical situation.

Amazing what a difference one player makes.

I hope they keep all 4 RB's this offseason.

RB1 Williams
RB2 Freeman
RB3 Rivers
RB4 Evans or ???

If Williams can stay healthy and fresh the Rams are sitting at a great spot at the RB position.
I'd still want a RB to get drafted and hope we hit on a stud one to replace Freeman by force. Not saying I don't mind having Freeman, but it'd be nice to hit on a late #2 RB.

I guess you predicting Hav being gone will come true one day. I'm going to laugh my ass off when McVay keeps him around and you come up with another reason to he'll be gone. You truly hate this guy so much its laughable.

Agree to disagree. Speed has nothing to do with it. In fact, something a little slower might make it easier to juke and fake the defender out.
I won't disagree that an Ed Reed might have done better ... but it's not clear to me what the receiver was going to do. I can't because I am not facing him and seeing his eyes, shoulders and so forth.

Think of yourself running. You can fake someone out even if it looks like to them (as it does to you) that a cut one way or the other is certain. But they can still go the other way, especially if going a hair slower. Again, just common sense.

So, someone is coming at you ... and even lean one way, they can stay that way (which you don't know) or go the other way.

Think of basketball, how some guys can get faked out when someone is dribbling ... it's a lot easier to do that without the hassle of dribbling.

Us saying we can tell what the receiver is doing is what I disagree with. NFL-level offensive tackles get beat and they are going slower than a WR and they cannot tell and they are right on top of them.

You can assign blame because it was his coverage and it was not a good rep. My point is that happens in the NFL.

I I were to speculate, and this is just a guess, in no way can I say I am right ---Fuller tried to jump a route earlier in the game and got burned. This time he was probably trying to not get faked out. A WR would know that and use it to his advantage.

So, respectfully, I don't see it the way you do.

@DantheMan great stuff. I agree of the first defensive breakdown. It looks like Spoon is in press man (star?) and Yeast should be covering the flat. He should have released to the deep safety and he had help with the LBs getting depth in the deep middle zone.

Anyone else think the defensive play calls may be overly complicated for this young team? I mean, it’s really impressive they are able to play at a high level with only a few broken coverages this year.

Post June 1, the number is dramatically lower. A good chunk moves to the 25 cap.

I'm starting to come around on just keeping him, as you suggest... AND keeping Alaric... AND drafting another tackle in the first or second.

I don't hate that, but after seeing Williams impact and what difference he makes, I think I'm going top 3-4 rounds for another RB.

CAVEAT..

They get Zach Evans on the field with the first team offense and he looks great.. then? Standing pat would be acceptable.

Spoon isn't the star but he is in man, with outside leverage to funnel inside, where his help is.

Honestly, this is a confusing package to figure out. It is nickel personnel. But they are aligned in base formation. So, to me it looks like base defense with a John Johnson playing linebacker. But it could be Penny and if that is the case the star is John Johnson. Either way he's in the box.

It is fair to ask if things are complicated but on this one it's pretty simple ... it's just that motion has messed them up two weeks in a row. But also note that Rams did the same thing to the Ravens who have a vet defense.

Yeast doesn't have the flat, IMO, I think Fuller needs to match with the motion guy. Yeast has the #2 receiver man...only question is who needed to bump out---Yeast or Fuller. I cannot be 100% sure but I suspect Fuller didn't get the signal from Yeast.
