Anyone with basic football knowledge knows that you at least need a 6 to 8 game stretch w/ a competent coach and team to really evaluate the QB position. One or two good games doesn't equate to anything in the NFL.

The upside would be the Rams have an inside line on Levis and his mentality, how he processes, the whole nine, due to Coen being his OC in college and giving McVay the straight skinny on him. So if the Rams were to get him for a cheap pick relatively speaking, I'm sure they could lock him up for a 2-3 year deal at a cheap rate like they did with Jimmy. Then you have a guy who fits what you want roughly speaking, who speaks the lingo and knows the scheme to some extent (Coen basically showed them Rams tape during installs of his offense), and he's young with some upside as your QB2.
Also Bennett's last season of team control is 2026 so he's a nice preseason competitor for the QB2 role with Levis.
I'd prefer a draft pick, however there is some logic to a Levis move.
Jimmy has been on back to back 1 year contracts, not a 2-3 year deal
Coen has been gone for 3 years, so I'm not sure how he fits in to the equation?
Levis would be on a guaranteed 2 mill deal so you wouldnt bring him over without being pretty sure he's making the team. If his deal wasnt guaranteed, he'd probably have been cut by now
So again, I dont see the upside for the Rams, I'd rather just ride with Jimmy if he would sign on for another year

Rams are supposed to have $93M in cap space next year (7th in the League), which is a lot more than some of the QB needy teams
So, money might not be the problem. Having Willis sit on the bench for 1 year, or maybe longer, could be a more significant problem. Offering him a contract without a schedule of when he'll be able to realistically compete for the starting job does not sound like it would be appealing from his POV. The Rams giving him a such a schedule, before even getting him in the room, does not sound prudent. And if you're thinking of kicking Matthew out the door, no, just stop.
I'm not sure sample size is an issue, more like sample quality. The issue might be that, with GB he's been a spot/sporadic player. It would seem that it would be easier to get a bead on what GB is trying to do if you had several consecutive games in a row where's he's played. Plus, he hasn't thrown that much. The 21 attempts on Sunday were his most attempts with GB and 23 attempts is his career high.

All in all, while some posters on this thread are undoubtedly exhibiting prisoner-of-the-moment-style fan thinking regarding WIllis, if the people who actually know stuff (e.g., McVay) think signing him is a good idea, get him.
Only chance is if Stafford retires, otherwise he gets paid elsewhere. Any chance the Packers tag him to force a trade? The tag is probably too expensive for the QB position.
Yep, I just checked, they only have $9M in cap space next year so they have no shot. If they had $80M or $90M, they could do that. Other teams have in the past.

Coen fits in because he had Levis running our offense at Kentucky. Also coaches who coach a QB end up knowing their strengths and weaknesses. So if the Rams move on Levis it means Coen gave them a good report.
Jimmy's too limited. He's too dependent on screens and underneath throws or schemed options. Fans would tar and feather his ass if he were our starter or if he had to start for more than a game or two. For all his experience the truth is if we lose Stafford for the year at any point we're fucked.
Levis of course has his own issues. Hero ball for example. I mean seriously the dude acts like every play is the final play at 3 seconds remaining in the Super Bowl. But I don't think there would be a ton of dropoff from Jimmy to Bennett, who has been in the offense for enough time now to know it cold and just get the ball distributed if and when he's called on. And between him and Levis we could have a futures option as well.
Also and btw it's really two different conversations. Those being whether Levis is someone the Rams would be interested in, and whether Bennett has the stuff to QB2 for us. You certainly won't be the only one who wants to ride with Jimmy. He's really popular among the faithful. I'm just not a big fan of his and never have been.
