Goff's not as good as Stafford.
Goff's supporting cast is not as good as Stafford's.

These aren't competing thoughts."

This. And

Goff is not better than Stafford.
Goff is not all to blame in what is happening in Lions.

Edit: Sorry i tried to quote it but never realized i didnt quote it properly. lol.

I think the Lions leading rusher had 24 yards. Goff needs a run game, we all know that.
He did not ask for this. We are better off with Stafford but I hope the Rams fans cheer him at the start of the game and the Rams defense help him up after they smash him to the turf.

My wife watched this and said she thinks he needs medication.

(She was a D1soccer player)
Nah. He don't need medicine. That's a stupid ass reason to give someone medicine. I rather have a coach like him that gives a shit than a coach who just has a stupid look on his face all day. That's just me though.

Have you watched the Detroit games? Goff has a crap OL and is constantly under pressure. He's played well enough to win 2-3 games but the defense can't hold a lead. Why is Goff supposed to carry the whole damn team? Campbell is getting heat and now he's pointing fingers. Goff is now reduced to throwing to KhaDarel Hodges, remember him? That's how bad their receivers are. They have no running game it's only 3.5% of their offense. So Campbell is full of shit. Goff is 96.5% of his offense with no real receiving threats. How much more does he need to step up? Give me a freaking break.

Goff's INT % is only 1.5% while Stafford's INT % is 1.7% playing behind an OL that is one of the best in the NFL right now. Yes, he's lost 4 fumbles but he's also been sacked 15 times while Stafford has only been sacked 4 times. So how about saying the Detroit OL needs to step up their game, why single out Goff? When you look at Stafford's stats in Detroit and compare to Goff's they aren't that much different.

The bottom line is that the whole freaking team is bad so it's nonsense to blame one player. He should be asking where the hell is my defense? Sure Goff could be playing better but so should the rest of the team. For instance, their defense is ranked around 24th in the NFL why isn't he calling them out? Goff got them leads very late in two different games, only to see them lose to last-second field goals given up after deep completions against Detroit's prevent defense. Funny how Campbell ignores that right?

I'm not a Goff apologist. But the guy was McVay's whipping boy for a lot of problems directly tied to McVay and his staff. Now the same is happening in Detroit. Their DC is crap. They have better talent than their production indicates. It's no different than what's happening with Morris. So maybe Campbell should fire his DC and upgrade there or is having the #24 ranked defense okay with Dan? Campbell might be a likable guy but so far he's a shit NFL coach and his staff isn't much better.

So yeah I'm calling out Campbell and his staff to step up their performance. It's clear to anyone who understands football that is where the problem lies. Better performance by the defense and the Lions would have at least 2 perhaps even 3 wins. So it's not Goff that is the problem, he's just the whipping boy by a struggling HC once again.

It's clear to me that the real difference this year with the Rams has been the OL play and that is directly connected to hiring Carberry to replace Kromer. Proving once again it isn't always the players, but the coaches that are the problem.
Yeah, I'm sorry but Goff is the problem too. He's not free from excuses.

“He needs help,” Campbell said. “He needs help. Like I told (Goff), and he knows this, but some of that stuff, we’re getting holding calls, because he’s drifting back into the pocket 10 yards deep. That’s not fair to those guys, either, if you hang on to the ball. So, this is a collective effort now. Everything goes hand in hand. But, I want to see (Goff) step up. Because I think he can do it.”
Unfortunately he doesn't have Ragnow anymore so he probably doesn't feel comfortable with the inside rush anymore.

Donald is so going to kill Goff this week. Put Donald between the right guard and the center and it will be ugly.

You think Goff is going to have even 1.5 seconds with Donald coming inside. This could turn into the Miami game all over again.

It was a joke about him being overly emotional. This isn’t college. Having a weepy coach doesn’t instill confidence for grown men. A guy in control of his emotions who leads men is more important. I think in a few years Campbell will be back in college where parents need to know that you care about their sons and they want it to feel like a family away from home. In the NFL that’s not necessary nor does it work as frequently.

Goff is a perfect example of someone needing a good coach to succeed.

Thanks John Madden for the insightful post.

I'm sure you're right about Ragnow but this was a problem for Goff his first year and part of the 2017 season. He would drift back a ton without inside pressure. Rams and him got it fixed but I'm just not sure he's got the supporting cast he needs from coaches to ensure that these regressive tendencies don't pop up again and take over.

Yeah, no. He's got the most turnovers since 2019. I like Jared Goff too but come on dude.
Ummmm this wasn’t a defense. Just being precise about this year.

He’s a turnover machine.. and often of the backbreaking quality.

That's why I previously was saying that they are either on the verge of some good things, or the "fight for the full 60" mentality will cave in....
Apparently door #2 has been kicked wide open...
2 of last 3 games the Offense left the field with the lead and less than a minute to go and they lose both to miracle kicks. No surprise the team lays an egg
Like @AvengerRam said, Campbell goes Rex Ryan.... You cant publicly trash your team like that. You just cant. These guys are so out classed in each game and are fighting their asses off just to be somewhat competitive. And coach is gonna rip them? Rip the front office for not getting a competent WR or two. There's been better WR squads on all the XFL & AAF teams

Does the GSOT ever happen without Martz? Did that team win because Vermiel cried or did that team win through a superior scheme and superior players? His crying isn't what got them where they were.

Then Vermiel had a few years of success in Kansas City with a guy who learned Martz's offense in Saunders along with a QB who learned it in Trent Greene. Without that he's just another coach. But compared to Coach Campbell, Vermiel is a tough guy.

If scheme were everything, Martz's stint in Detroit with "the best QB he's ever coached, Jon Kitna..." would be celebrated.

It is not.

Vermeil was the heart of that team. No question. No way the team hits the ground running with Warner after Green goes down if a teary-eyed Vermeil doesn't say the immortal line, "we will rally behind Kurt Warner and we will play good football."

Well, my respect for Dan Campbell has only grown from here. He's dealt with a lackluster wide receiver corps creatively, knows how to use his pieces, even though he's not a pure X's/O's guy, and honestly, his ability to bring the locker room together without seeming fake at all...he's a leader of men, and I can see why Brad Holmes wanted him as the HC.

If the Rams don't make it to the playoffs and the Lions do, I'm damn sure going to cheer for the cats.

I agree and am in the same boat on my view of Ole' Danny boy.

Previously I thought he would be a blockhead that would rely on rah rah stuff.

But it seems he has a good sense of his strengths and weaknesses. He understands the physicality part of the NFL and how to gain advantage on that front. He also understands that he is NOT an Xs and Os guy. But he delegates that to Ben Johnson who seems to be doing a nice job marrying the old school - run it down their throats mentality - with some modern, creative play design.

The Lions did a great job building that secondary in the offseason and now seem to have the pieces in place to compete.

How far will they go? Hard to say. Campbell is not out of the woods yet. He definitely has the respect of the locker room and media at this stage. But they can definitely ride that Oline, Hutch and the secondary to a playoff win or two if they can stay healthy.
