No, he's suppose to be a defensive minded yet his defenses have been awful (Lions, Pat's)
Because the coach can't execute the scheme. That requires players.

Barry is just a guess IMO. A bad guess at that. This hybrid defense isn't working against certain offenses. Power running kills it. I'd stick to a more conventional 3/4 or a regular 4/3.

that's because bellyfat didn't let him take any copies of the videos or any notes they had on every other team in the league.

that's why any coach that leaves the cheats fails with other teams. when they return they suddenly become good again.

Let’s not lose our heads over Barry.
If Wade retires there will A-list names lining up to coach the future HOF’s — #99 and Jalen Ramsey.

We have a lot nice young talent, add more in the draft, and we attract free agents, it’s gonna be a really attractive job.

One thing is for sure - we need an infusion of coaching genius into this team. We have been hemorrhaging talent for a few years, especially on the offensive side.

At least this not-so-great season stopped the bleeding and we’ll get to keep some of our best coaching talent here, while at the same time providing an opportunity to bring in some big-time coaching talent On offense and defense.

As much as I disdain the "lightweight" 3/4 (2/5?) we run I'd be hard pressed to name a DC with a better track record than WP.

The Ram QB coach's seat is the hottest one on this staff.

Ramsey is great DB in any scheme, but his value to Wades D is what makes his price acceptable.
It would feel very unfortunate if we did move on to a new DC who isnt a big man coverage guy.

If the SonOfBum decides tp hang it up, he needs to find and approve an appropriate replacement, then employ the Vulcan Mind Touch to pour all his knowledge, experience, and NFL wisdom into the chosen candidate.

Yeah the Barry part is worded where I think it's just the guy building off the rumor of Wade retiring and giving his guess that Barry would be a candidate. And I'd agree because McVay is the kind of guy who I'd think would give most of his current staff the opportunity to interview for it but doesn't mean anyone will get it.
IMO Marvez is guessing he does not realize that Joe Barry was an epic fail as a DC & as an Assistant HC that is where Barry is staying... Aubrey Pleasant is possible or a college DC as well
Yeah, I think he was just throwing a name out there, and a pretty obvious one. Part of the reason Barry is here is because he got fired in DC and his track record there was pretty bad. Let someone else give him a second chance at DC, we need a guy who is either proven or has at least shown potential to be a good DC. Barry falls into neither of those categories.
Would anyone take a gamble on a Matt Patricia defense “if” available?
Barry is just a guess IMO. A bad guess at that.

Well, Joe Barry is the Rams Assistant Head Coach and linebackers coach for the Los Angeles Rams. He might be best friends with Sean McVay or at least they have a very friendly relationship. He still is young for a DC at 50 this coming July. Looking at it from afar I don't know how McVay would higher someone else as the new defensive coordinator over Barry. It's a weird situation.

I'm sure there are much better possible candidates. I don't remember much about the teams he was a DC for but, they are two hot mess franchises. Stay tuned.

On both sides of the ball our toughness at the LOS is what disappoints me most. We are pushed around too much, which means talent, and coaching scheme are a problem.

Why do other teams seem to make adjustments, yet we only play well if we start well? I can’t remember the last time the McVay-Phillips coached Rams started off in a hole, made coaching and blocking scheme adjustments, and took over a game.

While we are at it, remember those pics from the Seattle game of Donald being triple, and Quadruple blocked? How was that presented?

“Wow! Isn’t Donald amazing?!” Was the narrative.

Did anyone else look at that and think, WTF?!! Are the rest of our guys so lame that they can put four guys on Donald? I tell you what, Fowler, or Brockers, or somebody better have been stuffing a guy behind the line on those plays.

There has been a waning of talent on our D-line, and our Hall of Fame AD needs more help. His best years better not be defined by frustration and triple teams. That’s BS.

If I remember correctly McVay had said something about Joe Barry taking Wade's place when Wade decides to retire. As many have stated, I think there will be better candidates out there.

I don't want Wade to go anywhere but if he does it should make the off season a little more interesting.

It's not so much that we aren't tough. We were constructed to beat teams like the Saints, Packers and other high flying teams.

The counter to that is the super heavy, power blocking, run heavy offense. However, we all know that there is a counter for that as well.

The Pats did well in their 3-4, but they had extraordinary large athletes at the ILB positions like Tedy Bruschi, guys who were 270, but could run. Those guys are super rare to be strong enough to take on OL, but fast enough to cover most TEs and run sideline to sideline as well as thump in the run game.

So, it's not that a 3-4 can't defeat a power running team, but that's a matter of personnel.

Now, here's the deal. The Reason a team or two pop up doing this is because a) they don't have a legit, franchise QB, but do have big OL and just decide to make the best of it (SF) or b) they have an extraordinary athlete at QB that can run that read option very well and is a solid passer (Lamar Jackson and RG3 his rookie year).

They will come down to earth as teams get better at defeating their blocking schemes and/or counter with heavier DL. In our case, while it's not in the penetration mode of this D, to counter teams like Balt and SF, having a hogmolley at NT like Vince Wilfork would be ideal. Guys like that can be a monster against inside runs and if you single them up, they just collapse the pocket as they are too big and strong for a 300lb center to stonewall.

It's more a matter of "styles make fights". I actually think we have most of the personnel to do both.

Honestly, if we were able to snag a beast at NT and resign as many of the guys we have on D as possible, i think we'd be good.

As for offense. I like everything about it other than two things. Either Corbett has to get WAY stronger or we have to move someone stronger into that LG position. Far too often, teams are treating him like a turnstyle.

Also, McVay has to have faith that he can run right. Several times during that blowout, the Cowboys were overloaded on the left and we had a large body advantage on the right... and every time we had that formation, we ran interior runs to the left...into all those bodies. I dunno what McVay is seeing, but in those formations when he did run those outside zone runs to the right against that D, Gurley was getting about 8 yards a pop.

I honestly think we are closer than it sometimes looks, I think we forget that teams have been prepping extra against us and that we've had a bunch of injuries this year that we hadn't had the prior two years. I mean our OL would have played 32 games together if it weren't for resting game 17 of 2017. No other team in the league had that stability and that's massive.

I have faith in Snead and McVay to get this right. If anything, I very much identify with the single-minded focus that McVay has (I have it, too) and I can assure anyone who doesn't have it that he's going to be a demon trying to fix this on both sides. And if Wade does step down, you can bet that the Rams will be the #1 spot for any aspiring DC because of not just AD and Ramsey, but to be part of the new McVay tree.

As a side note, I really hope he hires more coaches on offense. I'd like for him to have an OC again, a legit OC that can take some of the load and also be another voice when McVay gets tunnel vision.

Boy if McVay went with Barry, cue up the Martz/Marmie comparisons...
That said, Wade doesn’t have a contract for next season and the defense has been inconsistent and somewhat of a disappointment. Easy to see a dotted line to a potential parting of the ways. But spinning it as inside info is a joke.
