To paraphrase: the 53 might not necessary carry the best players because they might need to stash someone who played well in the practices or preseason over a player they like more. There are players they are high on who other teams, because they haven’t had much chance to see them in action, probably will not claim - because it has to be to the 53
Put simply, there may be some eye openers that make more sense once the practice squad is announced.
That said. Nick Hampton, for example, would interest teams who had a solid grade on him based on their scheme. So can they risk him? D Johnson looked good in preseason game 3, so might make it initials on that basis over Copeland or Ernest Brown who would most likely not be claimed - even though both are almost certainly ahead of him on the depth chart.
He mentioned signing vets to the practice squad, which I hope includes Rypien - or a better QB after cut downs
