I've been a diehard Rams fan for over 40 years, and always will be. But this year, I've got a "backup" team-- the Detroit Lions and Jared Goff.

It was great rooting for Goff as a Ram, and admittedly it was frustrating when his play declined and then he got traded. But Goff was ALWAYS a good guy and a class act. (I was especially impressed with how Goff handled questions after the Rams won the SB with Stafford). Now that his career is on the upswing again and Detroit has a real team, I'm happy to root for Goff and the Lions.

Here's an interesting (long!) article about Goff that has plenty of info about his past, his family, and the ups and downs of his career.

Yeah man, always been a Goff fan.
Great scalp for the Lions.
I really want him to do well at the Lions.
Of course, Rams first, but nice to have a bit of side action watching Goff.
Wish Brockers was still with the Lions too.

.

What I like is how everyone in the media and fans were laughing at Goff, telling us how awful he is as a qb. How it was all Mcvay.

Now, crickets. He has made them all look like fucking idiots twice in his career.

And that's why they all hate him. He makes them look like fucking idiots and it burns them up.

Haha, clowns.

People often root for the underdog for obvious reasons.

In this case both the Lions and Goff fit that bill, so its easy to root for them.

I met a Lions fan at the gym today. I asked him his take on the QB trade and he said he thinks it was a win for both teams.

Hard to argue. We needed a more seasoned vet, the Lions needed someone younger to build with and some picks. And it's working out for both teams.

All those draft picks the Lions used were showing up today. Not all were from us, but the pick 6 by Branch, the plays by LB Campbell, Laporta, Gibbs etc.

The best thing the Lions did was build that Oline and then getting Hutchenson. They are winning battles at the LOS.

Hard to say how good they will be. Will they go Deep into the playoffs? Personally I think they are going to need another pass rusher if they want to go Deep.

I think they need another very good to great receiver

I keep thinking in the back of my mind (and it's a nightmare scenario)

What if we are 0-8 or something similar and we decide to go even younger and trade (gulp) Kupp for quite a few draft picks.

I could see the Rams doing that if they could work out the cap implications (would piss off a lot of Rams fan though - myself included)

Their Oline were mauling the Chiefs on some running plays last night, getting insane amounts of push at the snap. Looks kind of like the Eagle's recipe.

Don't even think it ya bastid! At least you didn't say trade AD in that scenario! I'm still reading through posts in this thread and expect @Merlin to offer that scenario....

Good to see Goff doing well but, I just don't understand this fascination of cheering him on. I thank him for what he did for us and I wish him well, but when he plays, I could give 2 shits how he plays. If the player isn't a Ram, fuck em! :laugh1:

Last night made me hopeful about the Rams season, believe it or not. I think our Oline will be vastly improved over that shit show Oline we fielded ;last season. I am confident Matthew will find guys and we will score points. If our D can do something decent this year , the Rams will shock some folks.

I know everyone means well.

But I'm still salty the way his tenure ended here.

Can't get over it. Sorry not Sorry.

Well I am rooting for the Lions because I pretty much hate every other team in the NFC (except for the Rams of course)

Don't get me wrong, I wanted the Lions to win, but not cuz of Goff. Mostly because I like seeing an underdog win every once in awhile. If they didn't win, I couldn't have cared less. I hate everyone as well except the Rams hahaha

I like Goff just fine. I wouldn't say that I actually route for him except that he used to be a Ram and it's nice to see him do well. I used to cheer on the Stafford Lions too though. I just always felt bad for that fan base and would like to see them do well.

That said, I REALLY would like to see Jared punk the media "experts" and become a really good starter.

I dont really have a problem with Goff.

I have a problem with him waiting for the sun to rise to throw the dadgum ball to Brandin Cooks in the Super Bowl. Thats what I have a problem with....
