McVay said it is more likely that he will not return this year. Does that mean ever? Who knows, it was a late 4th rounder with little or no chance to make an impact.

They had so many holes to fill they gave it a shot. Would rather have had a guy that has actually played in the league but was hopeful.

Here are some choices available when he was chosen. Stetson had a pre-draft grade of 43.

None of the choices are looking especially great. Stetson seems about on par with other QBs who would have fit (DTR or Jaren Hall). Obviously, nobody knew this whole mess would happen. In retrospect, signing a cheap veteran would have been best (Kyle Allen, Gardner Minshew, or Teddy Bridgewater).

Jourdan mentioned that they aren’t sure he will ever play for the Rams. She also got a dig in on poor planning at backup QB (after Bennett left) once again.


Well Snead may have a new mantra but in the last few years the experience and college production thing was too often trumped by freak athleticism.

Also, it sure sounds like if one solves for X from her comments, they would discover that many teams had Stetson off their board after hearing her talk about other teams and him a few times.

All I got from her, at least from looking at her Twitter/X feed, was that it applied to "this year." But I haven't listened to the podcast yet, did she say "ever" on the most recent episode?

With that being said and knowing that next year's draft is supposed to have a talented QB class, I'd like us to moot the point by taking one in the first round and start prepping him to replace Stafford in another year or two.

I agree with you btw. I wish him all of the luck but it’s like relying on Terrell Lewis at edge. Alcoholism can be similar to a recurring injury. How reliable could he be? I don’t want McVay relying on Stetson Bennett to be the starter or the backup.

The correct answer is still Hendon Hooker. But Brad Holmes knew the Rams would likely take him at #69 and traded up to #68 to get him. Rams now back in the QB wilderness after Stafford.

Hooker still isn't recovered from his knee injury last year, so I'm not sure what kind of help he'd be right now, he' as available to the Lions as Bennett is to the Rams

No help right now though he may come back this year. But imo he will be some team's starting QB in the future. He's really smart, was totally in command of the Tennessee offense, and can really REALLY throw the ball. Makes all kinds of good plays.

It's too bad the Rams couldn't have landed him. The Lions don't need him, they will resign Goff. Hooker could have backed up Stafford for 2-3 years and then taken over.

I'm a big fan of the kid too.
As it stands though, considering draft position the Rams would have had to have taken him instead of Avila
