Raiders at Rams — Gene Steratore

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gene_Steratore

Steratore worked his first NFL playoff game as a referee between the Arizona Cardinals and the Carolina Panthers on January 10, 2009, at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. Exactly one year later, he refereed the Baltimore Ravens' 33–14 victory over the New England Patriots in an American Football Conference (AFC) Wild Card match at Gillette Stadiumin Foxborough, Massachusetts.

Steratore's 2014 NFL officiating crew consists of umpire Bruce Stritesky, head linesman Wayne Mackie, line judge Gary Arthur, field judge Bob Waggoner, side judge Mike Weatherford, and back judge Dino Paganelli.

Steratore was named as referee for the NFC Championship game on January 19, 2014, in Seattle between the Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers.
I just want to know, "Are they known Flag throwers!" Where do they stand, compared to the League average!?

Firstly how you finish a year has very little baring on how you do the next year, obviously you get some teams who are just very good and some who are just very bad, but for teams who are hoping to go from bad to good it doesn't really matter. Secondly the more we lose the better the chance that we can get a decent QB.
I just can't agree with that. Yes, the draft pick would be worse if the Rams win some games, and much worse if they win out, but winning is going to do a lot more to help your team get out of the losing culture mindset than a guy who's a few picks higher than another guy.

Mariota is probably gone even if we don't lose out, I DO NOT WANT Winston, and by all *current* estimations (though everything changes by the draft), Hundley should be there at our pick whether we win out, lose out or something in between.

Well, Gene Steratore is going to be very confused come Sunday...The NFL give all officiating crews implicit instructions to throw flags against two franchises in the NFL the Raiders (AFC) and the Rams (NFC) this is because of Al Davis and his fight against the legendary Pete Rozelle and because of Georgia Frontiere getting such a sweetheart deal when she moved her Rams to St. Louis.

So tomorrow Gene and his boys will be huddling quite often as they will be in a state of disarray on deciding on who they should walk off the penalty yards against. I'm also betting on Gene slipping up a few times as he say.... "First down Los Angeles."

They're gonna be really confused. They hate both teams now they gotta decide which one they hate the most.

I agree with your post with the exception of one small point, I'd argue that the NFL owners are perpetrating a vendetta against the Rams, not because Georgia got a sweetheart deal in StL, but because she left the NFL's 2nd largest market vacant for almost 2 decades.

Let us also not forget Gregg Williams and all the problems he caused for the image of the NFL. And after all, the brand is of utmost importance to Goodell.

To think that the refs, before the season began, weren't instructed by Goodell to keep an extra eye on the Rams defensive players and not allow them to get away with anything is not paranoia but naivete.

Btw...watching the Seahawks/49ers game the other night and considering the amount of ridiculous flags thrown against the 49ers this season, I would also throw them into the mix as a team that the refs are flag-happy with for whatever reason.

And for those who have yet to fully understand the immense damage that incompetent and biased referees are doing to this game we love, you just haven't been paying attention. Human error? Yeah, nobody's perfect but get some better humans to do the job.

A rookie ref makes $78,000 a year. A veteran ref makes $205,000 a year. The average pay for a ref in 2014 is $173,000 a year. Consider that's part-time work. Surely for that amount of money the NFL can get more competent people or at least hold accountable those who screw up time after time.

This team isn't 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011 bad. There's no QB, in my mind anyways, that is a can't miss prospect in this upcoming draft. And the talent is in place to succeed. For god's sake, this team beat Peyton Manning with Shaun F'n Hill.

Losing begets losing.

I agree - losing begets losing. I don't know the answer at quarterback, but this team is ready to win - they finally know how to compete. I think we need: a journeyman game manager QB for the next couple of years (admittedly hard to find, but at least in the realm of possibility); and a young prospect to groom for the next 2-3 years.

I hope they play as well as possible the remainder of this year, regardless of the consequences.

Fair enough. Maybe we'll revisit this thread.

In no way should the Rams lose out.. Youngest team in the NFL , the players have to and will learn that EVERY GAME MATTERS

Right.

Or maybe next season when crunch time comes, it's easy for them to think "Well, if we lose, at least we get a better draft pick again!"

The final total for today's game:

Raiders: 8 penalties for 73 yds
Rams: 8 penalties for 60 yds
Total: 16 penalties for 133 yds

I don't recall any game changing calls that were disputable. I really think the Refs called it fair and square.

As expected with this crew. No stupid non existent offensive pass interference or defensive holding.

Unlike this Patriots/Packers game, muscle Ed is up to his antics.

I don't either...but the game wasn't close so it never really came down to that. Although, I do wonder what the personal foul was on Tre's TD. I didn't see anything bad in his celebration.

There was the non-existent taunting after a TD for the 2nd week in a row...

Actually, I just saw on the local sports recap here in the Los Angeles area what he did. He was out of the endzone, at the backend and held out his arms, looked skyward and then fell back on his backside. You know, sort of like falling down to make a snow angel? That act was I guess past the allotted time to perform an individual celebration so the flag.

To add my two cents, if it occurred off the field of play (it did) why would it be a penalty? You know, Lambeau leap kind of.

Whatever.
