So here's what I don't understand and ottoman89 alluded to, why can't we extend him to match when AD will retire? He'd still get a raise with another bite at FA. Someone will pay him based on his name alone and we will have gotten most of his prime years out of him. C'mon salary cap gurus that work for the Rams.

The compensation will be interesting. I suspect there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth when it is done. Hope for great return but ready for less.

My guess is a round 2 pick and maybe a round 3 or 4. But Snead has surprised me before like getting a round 2 pick for an oft-injured wideout. Though that was the Texans.
Trading Ramsey for cap relief is positive but the other half of that trade element would have been at least a couple of 3rd rounders in draft selections

But when I ponder on that do I really want a redo & end up with Terrell Burgess/ David Long/ Bobby Evans or a Terrell Burgess all 3rd rounders by Snead.

I would just keep Ramsey move him to deep safety from this point on & let him have his way with terrorizing opponents QB's with his all-pro playmaking ability.

Sure would be great entertainment every Sunday having Jalen Ramsey talking smack & then backing it up. Deep Safety is what he is now built for from this point on.

It amazes me that people think we can replace Ramsey with a rookie. Is it possible to some extent, of course, but it's highly unlikely. Once again signals to poor AD, hey we can't win this year big fella. Terrible message to send. Somehow in the NFC South, the Saints are kicking the can further and further every year lol

Personally, Unless he demands it or is just totally unreasonable on future salary demands i CERTAINLY HOPE AARON DONALD PLAYS THE REST OF HIS CAREER AS A RAM!!!
He's already stated he was going to retire last offseason and this extension will be his last. Time to get something for him.

If I am reading Spotrac and Over-the-Cap correctly ... and if they are accurate, Donald may not be tradeable.

If the Rams trade Ramsey before the Draft, they take a $19.6M Dead-cap-hit, and create $5.6M of cap savings.

If Donald is traded before the Draft, it looks like the Dead-$ is over $40M. Don't see how they could do that.

This isn't just a cap relief move. If Ramsey wasn't declining the Rams would kick the can down the road. They pay guys who can play.

The guys who can't play get moved. This is where we are, fans just have their goggles on with him. They check pff and get incensed but this time next year everyone here whining will see his decline and applaud this move. Especially if they can get good comp for him.

Hence why I'll think it'll be setup different, there is many different ways to set up and execute these types of trades as we seen with the Goff trade.

The Rams absorbed a $24.7M Dead-cap-hit on Goff in 2021 (per Spotrac).

If they release Wagner (pre-June designation) and trade Ramsey (pre-Draft) that will be $27M of Dead-$ on those two moves alone. Don't think there's anyway they could take on another $40M-plus of Dead-$.

You also forget the dead money slotted from Cooks and Gurley in previous season and how they managed the cap with all three of those big dead money contracts.

Also a trade could be arranged as to take draft pick compensation for a percentage of the money as what happened with the Goff trade.

Converting to signing bonuses and restructure other players desks (Krupp etc.) is one of many ways they could help this out.

As I said many things are possible, it’s just a matter of seeing if our FO gets terms they agree with.

Although trading Ramsey is a lot more thesable I will admit, I wouldn’t rule out them looking for a home for AD with only 2 years left.

I really did not forget. I'm just reading a good salary cap site.

According to Spotrac, the Rams total Dead-$ in 2021 was $49M. Goff's $24.7M and Gurley's $8.4M represented the largest amounts. The Brandin Cooks Dead-$ ($21.8M) was in 2020 when the Rams' total Dead-$ was $38M.

$40M-plus of Dead-$ on Donald, along with as much as $27M on Wagner and Ramsey is almost $70M Dead-$ on those three players alone. I really WANT to be wrong because all I care about here is a good Rams' team. However, being objective and realistic, I just don't see it

I think McSnead goes for one season of major dead cap and then we reload.

Need to trade AD, Ramsey, and Floyd, and put what we get(picks and money) into offensive line, otherwise next season will a repeat of last season

train,
This is a gross overreaction to issues that were largely due to a tsunami of injuries that nobody could have anticipated. So you're advocating we gut our defense to improve the OL but then we'll just lose games 45 - 40 as we won't be able to stop anyone.
I think one of Ramsey or AD will go shortly.....but not both in one year.

If we do that, we should kiss AD goodbye cuz I could see him not wanting to waste his time waiting around since he's closer to retiring than not. I think it's a huge mistake doing this and that we have superstar pieces to compete if we don't panic. We had literally the worst offensive line injury luck ever and now we want to blow it up? Makes no sense to me whatsoever. This core has gotten us to a SB before and we should try like hell to do so again.
