Ramsey would fill a definite need, but our OL is an emergency situation, even projecting into next year.

Yeah, but Williams missed 13 gms the last 3 seasons, he is 31, carries a $12.5M cap hit next year, and will require a new contract in 2021.

Pass...

They weren't going to resign Peters or Talib next year anyway. They drafted David to take Talib's place next year. I'm sure he will simply step in now. Hill sucks at press man coverage so with Peters gone I expect Hill to cover the Z WR side which is generally is not press technique.

Wade's favorite way to play his secondary is man coverage on the boundaries, with a cover 1. Wade loves to move his safeties around, so in reality he needs guys like Rapp, Johnson and Weddle who can play in the box or single high. I think we will see more of that here on out. I think he's tired of playing zone and getting ripped up. That IMO was the reason they moved Peters. Without Talib opposite Peters it made no sense to carry a CB who plays what he wants not what is expected of him.

This secondary will be better without both IMO.

Who will fill the CB void for the Los Angeles Rams?

The Rams lost Aqib Talib to IR and traded Marcus Peters today. Who will be in the defensive backfield when the Rams play in Atlanta Sunday?

By Sean Wilkinson Oct 15, 2019

Well this escalated quickly. A week ago the Los Angles Rams had two All-Pros starting at cornerback. Sure, Aqib Talib is on the downslope of his career and Marcus Peters was too aggressive at times... but they formed a formidable duo. The last 48 hours has changed that drastically. Talib went to injured reserve with a rib injury and Peters was traded to the Ravens today. The Rams entered the season with significant depth at cornerback and now they’ll have to lean into that strength to rebound from two significant losses.

I’m going to preface these next few paragraphs by noting that Nickell Robey-Coleman plays mostly in the slot and I’m not viewing him as a candidate to shift outside. With Troy Hill playing so well under Wade Phillips tutelage, he has likely earned a role as a starter for the rest of the season. It’s not tough to pencil him in as Peter’s replacement.

Filling in for an injured Talib becomes more problematic. David Long has been inactive for all six of the Rams contests in 2019. It’s hard to envision the Rams thrusting him directly into a starting CB role, but to be honest they might not have much choice. The only other remaining option in house would be Darious Williams, who is a special teamer who has yet to play a defensive snap in 2019.
The most likely option is Long and Hill being the starting CBs in week 7, but I wouldn’t put it past Les Snead to swing one more trade to bring in a replacement. No, I don’t think it would be Jalen Ramsey, but Snead is well known for his wheeling and dealing.

Not gonna be a popular opinion but I don't like this. Peters has his issues but he's been one of the ones coming through on D getting interceptions, he loved being on this team and I don't like breaking up more the "brotherhood" this team has had. Maybe it will make sense to me soon but I don't like this move right now after just losing Talib, oh well
Its obvious they did not see him as a fit and he was not going to be here next year.

So they add a young LB that can push for the Reeder position inside, but more importantly open up cap space for another deal this year or they can roll that unused cap space into next season now.

I think that’s exactly what facilitated the timing of this move. And I wouldn’t be surprised to see a move for Ramsey but it would eat up cap space needed to upgrade the OL.

Or Chris Harris... If they are not giving up on the season, he makes sense.

PFF be like OMG OMG OMG RAVENS JUST GOT SHUTDOWN CORNER FOR PEANUTS BEST TRADE EVAH!!!!
Ravens fans saying " omg our GM fleeced the rams!! Peters is a top 10 PFF CB!! He was played out of position and will be a great Man corner!! he is a true take away corner!!

Can't wait to see the threads about how he doesnt tackle, doesnt play man and goes off script non stop and gives up 3x as many td's as he gets int's. Wish nothing but the best for the guy but Ravens fans are in for a big wake up call.

Good reads, aside from turf showtimes.com which makes our dozens of vent threads look tame. Man that site is toxic.

Something big had to have happened for Snead to trade his only starting outside corner left plus missing on the opportunity to be awarded a 3rd round (2nd day ) draft selection.

You don't do this for a back up ILB'er & a 2020 5th round selection....do you?

$5.6M of cap space that can be used now, or rolled into next year is huge for a team that will be tight against the cap.

Look at it this way, this gives them $$ to sign Littleton that they would not have had if Peters played out the season. Or it gives you $$ to pay half of Fowler's expected deal of they want to keep him... Or maybe that cap money gets you a FA OG or OT next year.

Good point for sure.

Players usually want to hit the open market and get paid.

I don't blame them, I would too.

Goodbye fucker... you'll fit in good in Baltimore.

That was really stupid on his part and he could have easily gotten his face bashed.

He looked to be a few feet lower, because of the tunnel, than the guy jawing at him and then he uses moronic language egging the guy on.

The difference in position is a huge disadvantage for Peters. He's lucky he didn't get sucker punched at a downward angle to the nose or eye socket.

So LB Kenny Young must be considered future starting material reinforcements for a still ailing nerve damaged shoulder LB Bryce Hager, a surgically repaired rehabbing event Micah Kiser & the UDFA MLB Troy Reader who has major pass coverage issues.

I was wondering if they would temporarily return Cory Littleton back to the MLB'er post & have his back up Travin Howard play the WS ILB'er post??? Guess not.

Snead could have gotten negative information on the nerve damage on Bryce Hager too. He might also be being considered for IR resort too.

Very valid points, I'm amazed there is not field security anywhere in sight? Damn I wish I would have been here I would have gotten me all kinds of gear! :ROFLMAO: Maybe even a helmet! lol

I don't know guys. Something is fishy here.

Marcus Peters must have done something insane cause trading him away right now is just stupid.

On face value this has to be the front end of a bigger transaction -- cause unless it's not this is crazy.

I mean, has David Long even suited up this year?

You guys don't like Marcus Peters but the love for Hill is on par if not worse.

I mean we save 6 million under the salary cap but what for if we weren't signing him anyway.

And the odds we get a better CB back in a trade for a Ramsey, or a Harris, or a Peterson, is nuts! I don't see it happening. What are we gonna give away? a #1 pick for, what, the 4th year in a row? We need draft picks.

But hey at this point, I am all for bringing in Ramsey or Harris or a Peterson but it takes two to tango. Now we just told everyone we are freakin desperate, and not only that, they may get better offers from other teams like New Orleans, and Cleveland, etc.... I mean when has freakin' Denver and the Rams ever had a trade? I can't friggin' remember. I need a beer.

My point is just dumping Marcus Peters for some no-name dime a dozen ILB is really strange.

I now a lot of you guys are celebrating the scapegoat that is Marcus Freakin' Peters but I think this is a shit trade so far.

* EDIT
IGNORE THIS POST
WE JUST TRADE FOR RAMSEY!!!!!

I'm encouraged by this team continuing to be pro-active in tweaking the roster, making small moves, big moves etc.

IMO Peters is gone more for his immaturity and character than his up & down on the field play. He was the worst tackler on this team and clearly had no interest in physicality...but he did have the ability to make some big plays from time to time.

I won't miss him.

On to the Ramsey and other trade threads.

It was time to move Peters. Immature, non-tackling, non-covering CB that cost more than he is worth.
