Rams trade for Titans CB Roger McCreary

To me there is no upside or downside. I think it was a (just in case) move if someone gets injured. I'm just worried if he plays and he gets burned, I will have to endure the "McCreary Is a Bust" threads. I think we should all consider managing expectations.

I mean, fans are gonna fan - and that often means ridiculous over reactions to the last play. We (and I lump myself in here) tend to think that if there is a big pass play on offense that the defender who is ultimately closest to the receiver is not only to blame, but that they got burned and that they apparently suck. It doesn't matter what the defenders actual responsibilities were on the play - its just the results.

But most of us know that we do that - and we over react and then we ultimately develop some even headedness about it.

For me, the potential upside is clear. If the kid plays well, the cost was so low, its almost like they gave him to us. And with a cost that low - how can he really be a bust? A bust is someone that we spent somewhat significant resources to get who then underperforms. This is the equivalent of getting a free lunch - if the food sucks, stop eating and move on.

Yeah.. there's no downside here.
I can see where it could be really impactful in the "dime" formations... literally allowing Lake to be fee to be used in multiple ways.

Or give Lake a break, no need for him to be 100% of Defensive plays anymore.

I'd start McCreary on the boundary, and go with Durant field side and see how that works for a few games. Now granted... Williams has been coming on. But that's a good problem to have. Competition will improve the end result on the field.

Oddly, that's what probably impressed me the most. He might be the best and most physical tackling CB at the position on the current active roster day one.

I think with a full compliment of healthy CBs.. it can just allow Lake to be put into more positions, especially in Dime looks.
But.. no.. don't replace Lake with McCreary.. and, yes.. he's going to play on the outside at first, imo, with Williams dinged up.

Yep, that stood out in his highlights.

I would venture to guess that we had the most meek and mild tackling CBs in the NFL. Does anyone have confidence that Williams, Durant, or Forbes, can square up and make a big open field tackle on Barkley, McCafferey or those Seattle RBs?

Without a doubt. Nothing against Forbes or Durant but neither of those fools will ever be good tacklers. To use a dog analogy they're greyhounds. You don't use a greyhound for herding or scent hunting, they're sight hounds. Which in this case means they're both wired for man coverage even though in that role they both need some work.

Tackling out there when you're on an island is way harder than it looks too. I think we all know that whether we played corner at lower levels or not. So facing an asshole like Ratboy is gonna be a lot easier with McCreary, which to use the dog analogy is that bluetick coonhound who can run for days, chase through water, and tree those bastids.

I think it's an upgrade period and adds depth. The guys a good tackler too!!!
