NBC PFT saying they might start the season a week early in Australia? Meaning just the Rams/Niners game that weekend

Haven't seen this posted yet, if so ignore.

Sorry for repeat post in Melbourne thread.

Good work Philly.

I'd wager it's on Friday. The Squawks will start the season on Thursday night and we'll play Friday. Last year the Chefs and Renters had a Friday night game in Brazil.

I'd wager its on Sunday before traditional Thursday Night Kickoff. Wont be enough of a rest to have teams play again 9 days later under this scenario. We know the NFL likes the defending champ to lead off the schedule, but my guess is that that will not be a HARD AND FAST rule going forward. This is the perfect exception.

What is worse:

Getting scheduled into a stadium the week after hosting a Shakira concert in DF Mexico or the AFL finals in Melbourne, Australia?

Weird. Seems like the NFL has liked their Thursday night season opener to be the defending champs. Seems like having the Australia game as the opener a whole week early would be kinda risky. And if the game is on the following Sunday, then it would force the Rams and Niners to take their bye week right after week one.

Interesting to see how this plays out. Rams could get the benefit of an "extra" bye week by starting super early... or Rams could get screwed over by being forced to have their only bye week immediately after their opener.

(If reports of a Sunday viewing time are accurate)

As I previously stated, I think the most sense would be to have the Rams play their opener on Saturday (local Melbourne time), televised in USA on Friday night.

Probably not accurate, it's Mike Florio speculation.

Merged with the PFT speculation thread. Didn't see the reason for two separate threads.

It gets worse. If you actually read that Florio opinion piece the Australian media said the game is scheduled week 1 on Sunday. Then we have to lose a day flying back and another day recovering from that. Hope we have a cupcake game week 2.

Well the week one though is Labor Day weekend and we would be the only two teams playing. So we would have two weeks until week 2. That's what I understood that he was saying.

That is Florio speculating what he would do. His article clearly says its being played week one which is starting the Thursday after Labor day September 10th.

Haven't read through this thread yet but I'm actively working on Mrs B to agree to a week long Australian vacation with a Rams game thrown in.... she's on board.

last time we flew to catch a Rams game, we won a SB later that season, so hey why not build a streak?

Im a little annoyed that Florio is stating it as FACT that the Rams-Niners game will be played in Week One. Demoff stated a couple days ago that it would "likely" be week one.

Only other source supposedly is John Ourand from Puck (whatever the hell that is), but there is no link to an article or proof that can be found.

I don't follow Florio that much, but as I recall he has a bad habit of conflating speculation with fact.

"Likely" week one? Yes. A "fact" that it is week one? So far only Florio and supposedly Ourand, with no confirmation anywhere else.

I tried to find the link again but the guy who covers the NFL for the Melbourne paper was at the Super Bowl and he was saying it was on the Sunday of week 1.

Isn’t Sunday in Australia Friday in California?

Right. I saw that, earlier. Only problem is that it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Reporting suggests the NFL will probably stick to their recent tradition of having the opening day game be hosted by the Seahawks on Thursday September 10th.

If the Rams Melbourne game is televised in the USA on the following Sunday Sept. 13, that wouldn't give the Rams and Niners enough time to recover in order to play the following week.

So yeah, the idea of the Rams game being televised on a Sunday sounds a little fishy. Week One makes sense.. televised in the UDA on Friday, maybe. But a telecast on Sunday sounds problematic.

Ram-Niner game is getting played Labor Day Weekend. Before the Seattle game. This is the "dual" trial balloon.

1. Can we play on Labor Day Weekend? (Answer: OF COURSE WE CAN, THIS IS THE NFL, We can do what we WANT, BITCHES)

2. Do we HAVE TO HAVE the Defending Champ open the Season? ( Answer: We'd LIKE to, but to cram this "Australia thing" into our routine we'll subvert it with a game between the 2nd and 3rd best teams from the preceding season)

They're 19 hours ahead of PST, per AI.
Yeah, you kind travel back in time when coming home. That actually means you get home around the same time when you leave, at least for east coast travelers. I traveled there for work back in the late 90's. It was 16 hrs off from EST. Although it took about 22 hrs total with layover time connecting from LA. For them it will be about 14 hrs flight time to LA aided by the jet stream.

OK I think you've sufficiently succeeded in confusing me. Are you suggesting the game will be played before the opening weeks Sunday and then not televised until that Sunday?
