Why would anyone wanna cut Barron?
Go back and look at the mock off seasons posted here. I'd wager almost every one of them not done by myself or Jrry had Barron being cut or traded. Hell you can go into most threads about our defense and people still don't think Barron will be any good in our defense. He's the Austin of the Defense around here. High priced with questions about how he'll do with the new coaches.

Edit: I think my first one had us trading Barron andcHayes to the Browns for a reunion with GW.

Wade Phillips is not going to let Mark Barron go anywhere. He likes his cover skills as a LBer. Read his quotes.

Tru is a wait & see guy . The reason stated ? Wade is not sure how he fits .

Austin ? Play marker. Can't have to many of those types. He does a lot more than being just a WR.

Yeah you don't let a guy get away who is diverse and can adapt to changes. Kind of puzzled to why most of our guys that did the mocks have him being traded...
Especially when Ogletree got hurt he lead The Rams in tackles. Even More than JL55 at the time.Like Wade said he has been apart of some good defenses.
The Rams defense in my eyes should be a lot better than last year.
-- I've actually been disappointed in games like Miami , NY Giants, & others at the end of games MYbe lack of conditioning.

Those mocks were wack! Hence why I didn't fantasize about trading Barron who is a good fit here. I traded Tru lol!!!

Not to mention me predicting Kupp at our exact pick. I'm reading palms for 100 ROD dollars this whole weekend btw...

"If it was about the money for me, I would've left somewhere else to get bigger money. I love football, I love my teammates."
How would he have done that under the franchise tag?? I guess he could not sign it, but who was going to take THAT contract and also give the Rams a draft pick for Tru??

I don't understand how some have issue with Barron. He's not a tricked up player because of Williams, he was playing out of position in Tampa. Dude has only played about 16 games as a LB and sure, has had some issues but he also has balled out. He's one of many positives left over, why get rid of him?
And the idea of trading anyone at this point is laughable, who needs a middle round pick in 2018 over a player in 2017? You want to dump a guy for a pick, you do it before the draft. Not after

It's all just offseason player personnel musings.

For example: The concern with Barron for me is two-fold.
1) A concern about his run defense as I believe that he's a better 4-3 WLB than he'll be a 3-4 ILB.
2) A belief that Ogletree would be a much better fit and a potential All-Pro at his spot in Wade Phillips defensive scheme instead of just a solid to above average player at his current spot.

Back to Trumaine Johnson.
I wonder what the plan is if after OTAs the coaching staff doesn't think that he'd be a good fit in Wade's defense? Of course, they'll be no contract extension, but would they still try to trade him to a team with lots of cap room for a late round choice just to get that 1 year contract off the books?

Interesting. I never bought into the fit or not fit in Wade's defense. They know already or at least have a good idea. They are stuck with him at the start of this year. An in season trade could happen IMO before the trade deadline. More value for a desperate contender. If Rams are out of playoff picture of course.

How much money do they need to have this year if they give Donald an extension?

Where is the money coming from?

They could probably sign Donald to and extension and TruJo to long term deal with his 16.7 M franchise tag salary. It's nice way of taking time to explore all avenues. There is hope they get a deal done.

I sorta bought into the fit thing only because, IMO, Wade's defense seems to work best with CBs who are strong in man coverage and I've never thought that was strong suit for Trumaine Johnson in the NFL (Not without safety help over the top, anyway). Plus, he was coming off a down season.

But deep down inside, I question if the Rams really intended on giving him a long-term deal. I think they gambled that by using the franchise tag they could deal him and not let him get away for nothing at all and loss.

Of course, it's not my money or my problem to manage the cap and sometimes you've go to do what you've got to do.

But, I can't help but to look at those somewhat questionable extensions that Brockers and Austin got and wonder how much will more $$ and cap space are going to be required on more impactful players who aren't as easily replaceable like Donald and Ogletree.

Not Brockers...but I totally agree....money spent on players that are NOT living up to the deals

A four year, $39.271 million contract extension with a $18.25 million guaranteed is quite a bit for a two down run stuffer, IMO. Hopefully, he does better in Wade Phillips system.
