We agree a lot but with this man I have to disagree with Drafting another Safety is like drafting another DE high.... why?

Absolutely see them not doing that. At least in the top 5 rounds.
Mainly because they don’t pay safeties. So this could be Lake’s last year. Emanwori is a linebacker/safety mix who would be perfect in the star.

With needs filled in free agency, they could go BPA. Do I think it’s likely? No.

Would you like to Make a bet on the sportsbook we don't take a safety until the earliest 6th round?
Never said they would take him...just saying that I could see a special talent like him being an impact guy.

EJ was never fast and that bum knee killed his mobility. Last season the Titans thought they had a grand slam trade value after one game, but then realized what he was and moved him. He is a between the tackles ILB now. Plus rusher, sure. And I like his instincts in his drops. But the dude has limits on range and that is easily upgraded.

That 3 year deal he signed with Seattle... They will cut him before that is done. Watch and see.
Agreed that EJ was never a burner but to your point, his intelligence helped him get to the right spot a lot of the time.

However, as opposed to him being cut: it's widely regarded that EJ helped unlock the Seattle defense after the trade, shoring up their run D, taking over green dot almost right away, and allowing the safeties to play more varied coverages due to his ability to drop. Maybe he doesn't make all three years with them but they really really really love him in Seattle.

He went to a good situation for him and that defense which is bad for us (well, it would be if they had an offense).

It'll be funny if Starks slides and we take him at 26. Corbs will be glad he saved all that RoD dolla.

EJ has his limitations. I think the frustrating thing is that moving him didn't upgrade the position for us at all. The so-called limitations he had...he had as a rookie, and made some big plays for us in that super bowl season. Him dropping back into coverage for that pick in the endzone that year at Arizona helped that really be a turning point for us in that season really. As depleted as we were in that game and to still win on the road was huge for us that year.

...and I'll say that EJ being a between the tackles ILB is exactly where we were needy this year. Saquan Barkley ran for a ton of yds between the tackles on us over a couple of games this year.... had we stopped him just a couple of times in the snow we could have gone all the way this year.

I'd agree EJ had his shortcomings....but moving on from him and not upgrading in the short term...particularly your first season without the greatest Defensive Tackle ever retired...that put us in a tough situation.

My hope is that we look at the ILB position group as a rotation where we use multiple guys who are REAL INSIDE LINEBACKERS...and play to their strengths... ...but some between the tackle hit you in the mouth style ILB play is needed in Pro Football...Speights may be that guy, but we need a solid partner next to him.

I get the overvaluing of Jones, who so many had their hearts set on being great for us. But he was never the dude fans hoped he'd be. And his mobility that Super Bowl run was better than what he was last season and is now. I think last year his knee was bothering him, and that might have factored in to the Rams decision. He had to have a cleanup surgery immediately following the season.

This class has multiple options into midrounds who will be superior to Jones. Guys who move better, fresh legs and mobility with a mix of strengths. Plenty of choices. And again Speights was better than him from the time he started his first game for us on through the remainder of the season because he can get outside the tackles.

I want speed offball going forward. Hope the Rams concur with that because running QBs are a fucking problem and the big fucks who are limited in range don't do the job.

I’m confident is saying I’ve never seen a worse MFL ILB combo than Reeder/Rozeboom since I stated watching the Rams in 1972. But maybe I had beer goggles on for most of that time period.

It was awful, and then I thought Rozeboom got better when Speights got slotted next to him.

Landman seems be a run stopper, and a sure tackler. Something we badly needed.

I wonder if you have to really work on your grip strength with Rugby being that you don’t have pads and shit to grab onto. It’s one of the things with Reeder. Not only did he seem to have poor tackling technique, but it never seemed he was strong enough to hold on to the player he had hold of.

I like the looks of Landman’s game. He seems very decisive and isn’t floating around hoping to make a play. It always seemed if Reeder wasn’t blitzing, the ball carrier had to find HIM.

He seems to be an upgrade in pass coverage too from the limited film I’ve seen of him. And no… I don’t give a shit about what PFF has to say with their questionable rating system.

This signing appears to harden up our MLB group. Make teams pay to go up the middle.

Reeder was decent plugging a hole. Where he struggled was anything requiring lateral movement or change in direction. Tough but not athletic. No shame in what he did in the NFL but his time has come.

Had a girl do that before. Didn’t make her my wife.

I can see a strong safety who can play in the box. The South Carolina kid could be a LB on 3rd down/ passing situations. He's built like one with freakish athletic ability. Kinchens is our FS and Lake plays star and pretty much all over the place. So no problem taking a freak playmaker at SS. Curl likley gone after this upcoming season, so a spot is there for a guy if he is truly a special talent.
Curl and Lake may be gone after this year since both are free agents. I can see a SS type and/or a versatile type like Lake.
