If Smith was a good receiver at this level, then we likely would have seen more of him. The cream always rises to the top. Coaches know who is good in camp, hence a fifth round receiver making an immediate and huge impact on the offense in the first game of the season.
I don't think Smith really offers a ton as a route runner and that's been his limiting factor. He's always been a designed touches guy who you had to bend the offense to - and you have to be a really phenomenal athlete for teams to want to do that consistently.

Makes sense

The Rams weren’t able to correct not drafting a WR.

But they did draft a WR.

Interesting signing.....I like the idea of some real competition at the return spot.
If Xavier gets cut, don't feel bad, he will be signed by Minnesota.

We have longed for a better return game for years. Whittington did decent at KR last year. Hopefully covey has the right skillset for punt returns, to improve that part of our special teams.

This will go like the Boston Scott signing... intriguing yet probably doesn't make the team. They will keep one of the younger guys over a 28 yr old one trick pony who has been injury prone.

You could very well be correct.
Quintez Cephus might be that bigger WR The Rams keep on there 53. Xiaver Smith might have a hard time making The Rams in 2025.He has been on the bubble the last year or two.

It will be interesting, having more WR’s in camp only helps the DB’s get more Reps. There is going to be a lot of competition with those DB’s

I disagree if kupp didn’t get hurt don’t think puka would have had as big of a opportunity

He is also the slowest. By a margin.

This guy made the pro bowl as a returner. We will now see a proper competition for that spot (over past seasons when we basically had nobody). Great signing

I doubt it nothing special
Could be.
But, way too early to make any assertions.
He has flashed some ability to make plays.
Now....is that a byproduct of being on the field with two other receivers that garner a lot of attention and they called a specific play for him take advantage of that......or, is he ready to start making his own plays?
I don't know and no one outside the Rams has any idea about that.
I think he has certainly shown enough to be optimistic.

I'm pretty sure Kupp and puka weren't on the field when he had his big games. In fact I'm certain they weren't.

When they were playing Whittington didn't see the field.

I don't know that Whittington had anything Id say was a big game.
A play here and there, but, potential for sure.
