I don't think they're planning to have him compete with Allen.. I think they're having him plan to compete with a rookie Center. I think Allen will be designated post June 1 unless they don't end up with a Center they like in the draft.
Possibly but if that were the case of Allen being gone he'd be gone now. His 2024 roster bonus guarantees on Monday.

I'm just not sure.
His deal isn't big.. but offers more relief for 23 if done post-June 1, unless I'm mistaken. I think it will cost them, big picture, a million more overall.. and, while they're aiming for 24.. could sill use *some* flexibility for 23.

His deal just isn't big enough to move the needle too much, either way.

Rams have demonstrated it's not going to be post June cuts I would think with Wagner who would have given a lot more relief this year if he'd done it. It's about the '24 cap which would tend to say Allen will be gone by Monday if he was leaving. Just my opinion based on his contract and what they've done and said so far.

Not being argumentative when I re-iterate.. it's a much smaller deal that provides just a little more wiggle room, which is what they would need for small moves to fill out the roster.

I would put it this way... Allen's status, IMO, is very much up in the air.

You should listen to McVay. There were plenty of people impressed with AJ and his medical condition has been figured out so he has the clearance to restart football activities.

Well not really, but I like AJ(Arcuri) & no one else has an honest opinion.
A’Jacks thought tweeted he was going to be The Rams starting LT. - Old School beats his own drum.
No Free Passes ,but $9 million in Cap space Noteboom saved The Rams.

Agree...he could be a June cut to make room for rookie signings. They will see how his knees do in OTAs...if he is still dealing with swelling etc...he is gone...and might be gone other wise. Also could depend on what they do in the draft and if they draft a C. How does that guy look in OTA's? Is he picking things up? Does he look like he belongs etc...

Kupped- it’s called insurance. If either one starts the still have a back guard. Meaning Shelton can start at Center & move to guard in game.Brian Allen takes over at Center.
I like Competition.Think whoever starts that’s good. The Draft will be the deciding factor on Brian Allen’s Faith as a Ram.
If they go UDRFA then they are both excellent Mentors.

Is not the biggest reason for signing center Shelton Coleman to be part of the dual starters @ center? Signing Shelton has a ton to do more with the Brian Allen situation.

Not to be forced to go with centers like Jeremiah Kolone or a rookie center when Brian Allen is out for long periods of time this season.

Allen has a badly damaged knee that will always cause him issues to miss time on the field & will never be fully healthy.

Allen has continuing serious issues with all kinds of injuries, not just the knee.

Allen's cap hit in 2023 is $6,211,768 which is not way out of line but still not good.

Cutting Allen will add $4.2 million to an already humongous Dead Cap figure in 2023. Plus it would weaken the center post which was a problematic post last season. In addition, Rams, would have to spend cap $$$ to bring in another veteran center too. Now, this center post is resolved for this season.

Allen might be a much higher cap casualty next season if Shelton can prove he is a good center if left in this position & not move around. Allen 2024 Dead Cap will be $2.4 mil. with a Cap Savings: $5.4 million. So this is what I see Snead & McVay considering next yr.

I would also guarantee a center will be selected in this upcoming draft. Now ready to move on to the real issues @ OG.

Coleman Shelton got a two-year deal worth up to $8.75 million, but it could void after one year based on playing time
I hope so for that money.
The deal breakdown was a few above your post... it has $4 million in incentives and probably won't even go into the second year. It's roughly a $2.4 million a year contract average. Mostly peanuts for a average to below average veteran in the NFL. Back away from the ledge a little bit lol.

Also his deal is cheaper than Allen's on the breakdown so not sure it signals he'll take the Center job but maybe the Guard instead where we have less money spent.

Hard to get an opinion on a guy who hasn’t got a lot of game tape. AJ I was referring to is Jackson, I think he is our best bet at LT currently. I just don’t see Boom suddenly being better after having an Achilles injury.

Arcuri looks like decent depth, maybe but I really hope Bruss takes control of RG and they bring in a vet for LG or maybe a 2nd round tank who starts day 1.

Not a thrilling signing. Depth and versatile but, below the average lighter offensive line.

Where is the beef?
If they want beef Chandler Brewer 6-6/325 lbs. I do think that Shelton is way over his 299 lbs listing.

Coleman Shelton signed a 2 year, $4,750,000 contract with the Los Angeles Rams, including a $500,000 signing bonus, $3,750,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $2,375,000. In 2023, Shelton will earn a base salary of $1,500,000 and a signing bonus of $500,000, while carrying a cap hit of $1,750,000 and a dead cap value of $2,750,000.

Shelton isn't pro bowl caliber by any stretch. But he does fill a need. He can start at right guard. Slide over to center when Allen goes down. Notice how I said when and not if?

Shelton was not part of the problem when he played. While he's far from a high end guy, he is a starting caliber lineman who isn't costing too much. Plus, it helps with the continuity of the line. It was a good signing.

EXACTLY!! That’s why it makes a lot of sense. These 2 Centers know the OFFENSE very well. Brian Allen really helped Baker Mayfield by calling the Plays upfront when he had less than 48hrs. to learn.
Then you go down the List’

Big RB
Back up QB
WR - Robinson still a Ram?
OLine Swing Tackle ?
TE ? Ok?

DLine ? Robinson or Gaines
LBEr edge rusher - need at least 2

Kickers - Punter

DB’s & special teams -
