Freeman has been the outlier, right?
I mean… every team signs some FAs these days, right?
But the Dodgers are more home grown than a ton of teams and have the best farm in baseball.
Hershiesher sure wasn’t.. but Dave Stewart, Bobby Welch, Eck.. Dave Henderson.

Anywho.. the Dodgers draft & develop.. the Rams do too.
More in reference to your remarks about the 70's Yankees. Reggie was the big free agent, however the other 8 field players were homegrown, or developed players. Thurman Munson, Willie Randolph, Mickey Rivers, Ron Guidry etc.
The Dynasty of the 70's and 90's-2000 Yankees may have been among the tops in Baseball payroll wise, but like your Dodgers were not built thru free agency or "bought"
That said, no team can ever compare to the Dodgers farm system and I wish my Yanks would emulate the Dodgers, who are the gold standard
The Rams are doing it the right way no doubt, instead of wasting draft picks on players who didnt pan out like the Patriots did during their run, the Rams use them wisely

I'm guessing they don't expect him to play the 5 years. Hoping alot of signing bonus with less than 7 mil against cap the next 2 or 3 years.

If I had to guess, I'd imagine his cap hit is around $3mil-$4mil this year.

Sorry Dieter but as a NYer and huge Yankee-fan in the 70's ... my teen years! ... I grew up but never really matured ... I have to comment.

Randolph came from the Pirates where they were buried in 2B (Dave Cash and Rennie Stennett). The Yankees got Randolph (and Dock Ellis) for George "Doc" Medich. I believe that was the only trade in the history of baseball that involved two doctors.

Rivers came from the Angels, along with Ed Figueroa in exchange for Bobby Bonds.

You are right about Thurman and Guidry being home-grown, as was Roy White. However, most of the team came via free agency and trades ... Catfish, Piniella, Chambliss, Nettles, Lyle and Gossage to name some of the top-players.

I'm drinking today. Does that qualify me as abusing alcohol?

Yes, it does. (guilty as charged)

I'm hoping to have my drinking issues under control (God willing) prior to the start of the 2022 NFL season.

It's crazy, I didn't drink any alcohol watching the Rams play the 49ers in the NFC championship game or during SB LVI vs the Bengals.

My advice, make an effort to stop drinking alcohol.

Tough habit to kick but you will add years to your life.

GO 2022 Rams!

If the Los Angelses Rams win (back to back Super Bowls) for the first time since the 2003 - 2004 New England Patriots

You arent following the conversation, I didnt say they were all home grown. They were homegrown OR developed (AKA NOT Free agent)
Only Reggie was a free agent, or "bought" of the starting 9

No longer follow baseball-- the 70s Yankees--were an all-time great team.

Good stuff.
Reggie was THE guy, though, right? At least he was the biggest star and biggest postseason performers. Craig Nettles wasn't homegrown.. but we're talking FA.
But, tons of homegrown talent on those Yanks teams.

The Dodgers draft and development is CRAZY.
They traded top prospects for Scherzer and Turner last year... and it's pretty easy to argue they have the best minor league talent in baseball, yet again.

Reggie was "the straw that stirs the drink", but the Yankees were in the World Series before they signed him, so its not really fair to give all the credit to free agency. That would then make the Kirk Gibson signing nullify the Dodgers...
The Yankees built an amazing dynasty twice in last 40 years with combination of homegrown talent, acquisitions of talent using prospects, bringing on "past prime veterans" who fit and lastly by sprinkling in a Free agent or two.
Yep, both clubs have/had the advantage over a majority of the league financially, but its been proven time and time again that spending big money doesnt guarantee success. Heck, more often than not, the teams that spend like crazy end up playing sub par. The Dodgers player development is completely unparalleled. There's no comparison to it
Back to our Rams, they are doing it the right way, and we're better for it

I didn’t mean to suggest he gets all the credit, I’m just pointing out that he was the star of those teams.
True on Gibson!
This Dodgers team needs another WS win to give it more historic relevance.
The Astros thing pisses me off.

OK but I wouldn’t describe Nettles, Chambliss, Piniella, Rivers or Dent (who was acquired in 1977) as ‘developed’ by the Yankees. They were all established Major Leaguers when they were acquired via trade.

Even Randolph was viewed as Major-League-ready, and was a Day-1-starter.
