He's interesting. When I was watching DL as a group early in the offseason, kind of going through them fast my first pass through with a game each, whatever game I watched of his was not particularly impressive. Can't recall which game it was but he did get blown off the ball a time or two and didn't look all that great.

Then a month or two later I went through the guys listed higher and whatever game I watched looked pretty damn good. Was probably Louisville. Can't recall but then I looked at his reps in the Senior Bowl and knew he'd be on our radar.

So idk what his deal was or if maybe I was watching an older tape of him. It is certainly possible. But I don't think motor is an issue for him and he's got good quickness and athleticism so I really have no worries on him. In fact I suspect he's going to be a beast for us.
Coming from CMU, maybe there was an adjustment period

One of the more controversial moves of the NFL Draft last week seems to be what the Los Angeles Rams traded away to move up and get Florida State defensive tackle Braden Fiske. In the trade, the Rams gave up a 2025 2nd round pick to move up 13 spots with the Carolina Panthers to acquire Fiske.

The Athletic’s Mike Sando asked NFL Executives around the league of their thoughts on each team’s draft class. Executives specifically brought up the move that the Rams made to go up and get Fiske. Said one executive,

According to Sando, “Execs saw that as behavior consistent with having a strong head coach. They also cited reports suggesting the Rams explored trading into the top 10 for tight end Brock Bowers (or possibly Byron Murphy II).”

The move to go up and get Fiske was a bold one. It was the most expensive Day 2 overpay of the last six drafts. With that said, he was very clearly a player that the Rams liked and felt would be a good addition to their defensive rotation. Until Fiske gets the field, there will be questions on whether or not the move up was worth it.
As Bill Barnwell noted this week,

Whether or not the trade up was worth it will only be determined by how Fiske performs on the field. The Detroit Lions traded away a 2025 third round for a project offensive tackle from British Columbia with a rugby background. Meanwhile, the Rams invested in a second-team All-ACC defensive tackle which is overshadowing a potential poor investment or trade up move from Brad Holmes and the Lions.

The Rams obviously liked Fiske enough to move up for him and trade away future assets. However, NFL executives and analysts around the league continue to question whether or not it was the right move.
The entire basis for people criticizing that trade is based on average success rate, being 42%. What they ignore is that the Rams felt like Fiske was a first round talent, in which case, that trade makes perfect sense. If Fiske plays like a top ten pick the. The trade was well worth it.

I trust Snead on this one. I’m sure Giff gave his stamp of approval.

I thought they gave up a bit much when the trade was made. But after watching highlights and learning more about Fiske, IMO it could turn out to be the steal of the draft. How many draftniks had AD as a 1st rd talent? If the Rams felt Fiske was a late 1st rd talent, I see no problem with giving up a 2nd for next years draft which everyone says is a weak draft class. The Rams 2nd rounder next year will likely be a late 2nd.

They did give up a lot. Too much for that spot.

But they were trying to move up for a while to get him. He’s the guy they wanted and they had him rated much higher. If that’s your guy, then it’s never too much much. Time will tell if their evaluation & projection of the player was accurate and the trade a success or not.

I’m just happy they went after “their guy” and got him. Rather than be conservative and wait and be left with a lesser guy (per your board & scout evaluations). Just like stafford - he was their guy and no amount was going to stop them from getting him…and ultimately be worth it.

On the surface people think they gave up too much. They coulda stood pat and got a lesser talent. Question is, do you like a juicy rib eye steak or a chuck steak? You gotta pay more if you want the rib eye. Or you could save money and settle for the chuck steak. You won't be as satisfied. But you saved money for more chuck steaks.

I was watching the PFF broadcast when the trade happened. They assumed the trade details HAD to be a typo. When they realized it was accurate, they were shocked at how much the Rams gave up. Are they clueless and out of touch?

Ok, let's keep it simple. How about giving up a third next year instead of a second? That should still have gotten the trade done based on the trading value charts, and yet still leans in favor of Carolina.
Next years 2nd rounder will be pick #64 and the 3rd rounder pick #96. Next years 3rd wouldn't have got it done. The Rams had a 1st round value on him and were not gonna let him get away, period. If he performs as well or close to Turner last year I will consider it a win for us. If a pair of 3rd rounders last year can churn out a combined 17 sacks with a shit Secondary I can hardly wait to see what 2 1st round talents will do this year with a good Secondary.

Seeing the resiliency those two showed in leading that FSU defense and team, and knowing it's coming to us to be added to some of the guys we already have up front... It's damn nice. They should settle in quickly with guys like Turner and Young. We may not have the most talented front but nobody is gonna outwork this group and fight as hard as them for each yard. That can get you a long way.

Defense really comes down to the secondary once again. If they can get their shit sorted this unit could make a jump.

Re: Kinchens I like reading that the Miami staff raved about his toughness and makeup. Safeties are a lot like QBs in that regard IMO. Makes me feel like maybe they did hit on that pick.

I think Kinchens is pretty important for us this season. Safety play has not been good. Those guys being in lockstep with the calls and overall defensive approach is going to be crucial for us.

Ive seen the value of this trade being questioned since it was made and being the first to not be pleased by the value of the trade I can say this:

1. Doesn’t matter what the game or anybody else thinks about the trade it’s done. Picks already gone. Nobody gives a shit about the opinions of some dudes on a website. Lol

2. Fiske is going to be a beast, that I have no doubt outside of any injury that starts to pops up.

3. Honestly, I was more upset about the 5th round pick given than the 2nd (even the second by itself was over payment of a lopsided trade) You can act like you have any clue, just like I don’t, what the conversation was like on the phone but this happens more than it it doesn’t with our trades, we need someone in our FO who knows how to talk on the phone in regards to negotiations at the drop of a hat.

4. That 5th that I coveted was exactly where I was expecting and us planning on taking a LB to round out our D, A weak side, run stuffing support LB that can cover. You look at that pick and 5-6 after some fucking good ass prospects were drafted right in that area. Man can’t imagine one of those guys behind this D -Line lining up against TE’s or making some plays.

5. I drink my worries away this next season watching Fiske and Verse destroy the Whiners o-line on one side while I’m LMAO.

6. Speights, any guy I loved in the draft process might make all this a mute point anyway. And I hope that’s the case! As far as run support I have little doubts to his ability, it’s more on the pass type of plays we seen Rozenbloom and Reeder have issues with.

If Fiske performs like the late first rounder the Rams think he is, the trade was a good one.

It's hard to find studs late 2nd round... Especially this draft, where it was known to be top heavy.

Fiske, to me, is rated the same as Clemson DT Bryan Bresee drafted last year by the Saints: a clear first-round pick in my eyes. Damn the age, damn the weight; Fiske reminds me of a more explosive and powerful Bresee, a pre-injury Bresee, who was regarded by everyone as a top twenty-pick in his class before the injuries.

He's going to be worth so much more than our #52, our #153, and the late second round pick next year, mark my words. And we - at the moment - still have three picks in the first three rounds in that draft, before any other trades.

I think we'll be happy with Verse and Fiske next year. I don't know that they're gonna blow anyone out of the water but I think we're gonna be happy.

He has a fucking Kittle jersey in the background. A San Fran Kittle jersey. Tells me all I need to know.

If he didn't see Fiske as a top fifty player, I don't know what to say. I'm dumbfounded at his stupidity. Dumbfounded. The tape doesn't fucking lie. Yes, Fiske has short arms. Aaron fucking Donald, the best defensive tackle ever, had short arms. Aidan Hutchinson, who is one of the single best 4-3 ends in the game, has short arms, and wins similarly to Fiske - and it matters a HELL of a lot more at edge than it does at defensive tackle, where the offensive guards and centers often have short arms themselves.
