So Coach McVay let O'Connell call plays during the scrimmage it seems. But if they're "getting used to" rotating play calls between the two does that mean O'Connell will be calling some plays during the season?
If they split play calling duties I hope it is in a series by series basis. I don't think it would be split within the same series unless McVay trumps O'Connel's call on occasion

Maybe so. For me what's interesting is the question of whether McVay finally has an OC he trusts enough to handle at least some calls.

Didn't read it all but I'm impressed after reading some of this and skimming the rest. There were a few times you actually only used one question mark. That's some impressive growth! Proud of you!!!! (multiples used for comedic affect)

Thanks Old School - very appreciated ! Enjoy your Sunday !!!!!!!!!!

The NFL season is getting close

Prob for Hendy is getting injured when he's supposed to be pushing for a job. It's wide open right now, so its definitely poor timing.

Hopefully it's a minor deal and he'll be right back in the action though. More competition we get the better.

Yes!! (more extra exclamation points).

It's worth observing again that O'Connell did a stellar job calling plays the last half of last year with Washington. I have expected him to be involved in the game strategy and play calling in some fashion (at least by advising McVay) for the Rams.

Maybe alternating calls in a scrimmage was just for convenience, but I doubt it. McVay is too purposeful with everything for that. I agree this shows that McVay is at least open to possibilities for letting O'Connell call some plays.

McVay appears to be his own toughest critic, and maybe he recognized some staleness in his own play calling last year.

Hard to think that alternating plays by play caller would work in a real game... but what if it did? Or alternating series, even if just part of the time? etc...

Giving O'Connell a direct role in play calling could introduce a new element of creativity and unpredictability in the Rams' O. This will be interesting to watch.

His NFL career consists of one season. He was durable for three years in college. Relax.

#Rams coach Sean McVay said RB Darrell Henderson's injury in last night's scrimmage at SoFi Stadium is a mild hamstring pull. McVay is "hopeful" Henderson will be OK for the Sept. 13 season opener.

Henderson struggled to make an impact after being a third round pick in 2019 and then ended the season inactive because of a high ankle sprain that required surgery https://www.turfshowtimes.com

McVay, Lewis, Kupp, Jefferson recap first scrimmage at SoFi Stadium

Rams head coach Sean McVay, outside linebacker Terrell Lewis, wide receiver Cooper Kupp and wide receiver Van Jefferson each held video conferences with local media on Sunday to recap the team's first scrimmage inside SoFi Stadium. Here are some of the highlights and key takeaways from those virtual conversations:

"Darrell did get a mild hamstring." – McVay

Updating reporters on the status of running back Darrell Henderson Jr., McVay specified the soft tissue injury Henderson sustained in the first half of Saturday's scrimmage as a mild hamstring injury.

McVay had no other injuries to report from the scrimmage besides Henderson's.

"(Taylor Rapp) is making progress." – McVay

Asked about a timetable for safety Taylor Rapp's return, McVay indicated he has been "doing good" and "making the progress that we want."

McVay added that he's hopeful Rapp (knee) will be back on the practice field "within the next week."

"I mean, people don't complain about Khalil Mack too much." – Lewis

When a reported asked if there were any downsides to playing outside linebacker at 6-foot-5 and 262 pounds – Lewis' listed height and weight on the team roster – the Alabama product pointed to Mack (6-3, 269 according to NFL.com) to state his case that there are few of them, if any.

Mack's size hasn't had a negative impact on his ability to play the position, as he's been named to the Pro Bowl in each of his last last five seasons with First-Team All-Pro honors in three of them.

"He's not asking the 101 questions; he's asking the 301 questions." – Kupp

While Jefferson is regarded as "an incredible route-runner," according to Kupp, his understanding of the game of football is just as impressive.

Echoing quarterback Jared Goff's comments that rookie wide receiver Van Jefferson is "just so far ahead of where a rookie should be," Kupp used the above analogy to explain how quickly Jefferson is grasping the Rams' offense.

"It's helped me out a lot. Those guys have been great." – Jefferson

Jefferson couldn't ask for a better group of receivers to learn from than Kupp, Robert Woods and Josh Reynolds.

Early on, they gave him valuable advice. Jefferson said that when he came in, "all of those guys told me 'learn all of those positions so they can just throw you in there at any position when they need you.'"

You already told me that. Again, one season is one season.
It is funny how people argue vehemently that after many years of varied injuries Saffold wasn’t injury prone. But now after one injury his rookie year and no issues in college Hendo is injury prone. Who knows what the future holds hir Hendo but for now the injury prone label is very premature.

How ya doing btw? Welcome back hope you’ve escaped most of the 2020 insanity.
