Tells me we need to make sure our o-line stays intact or we improve it. Stafford is too important to have dinged up like that. It is football though so shit does happen.
That is what they tried to do last off season. I think tho that the real problem is DCs keep coming up with new ways to get to the QB and you just can't always pick up the stunts.
One other problem. McVay having Stafford run the option against the 9ers at the goal line. If you look at that play, that is the one that injured him.
I said at the time, you would think McVay would have learned his lesson when he ran the same play with wolford against the Cardinals. He got knocked out of the game and an injured Goff had to come in.
It really was the stupidest play call this year. Especially with the linebackers 9ers have.

I'm just gonna chalk it down to shit happens at the end of the day. Its football after all and everyone takes hits. Its just whether or not those hits cause injuries. Sucks that it happened to Stafford but I'm sure there are hits he's taken that would put other QBs out for awhile. He's on tough cookie.

I would love! to see Matthew go through an entire season with a squad with no key injuries. Talk about a virtually guaranteed SuperBowl winning season!!! :thumbsup1:

The dude is an absolute warrior. I do wish he would protect himself more. It's not in his DNA, I guess. But it is a long season. Do you need to stand in the pocket and take the hit to make the throw every single time, risking injury? Not really. Yet I don't think I've ever seen Stafford throw it away, or turtle while securing the football and eating the sack, in an effort to protect himself. To protect the football because nothing is there and he doesn't want to force it or fumble? Sure. But to safeguard his body? Nah. If there is a WR he thinks he can hit, he is gonna try and make that pass.

That play was so stupid, I couldn't believe it when I saw it. It somehow one-upped the idiocy of the two-point conversion against the Cowboys a year or two ago, where Stafford was making a diving catch with *an already injured thumb on his throwing hand*. I have totally changed my opinion on McVay, from one of his toughest critics, to thinking he is unquestionably a top 2 coach in the NFL (Andy Reid I think has to be #1). But some of the calls he makes with Stafford, I just don't get. Who knows. We aren't in the huddles or wearing the head-set. Maybe #9 is calling it himself!

Throwing a football with cracked ribs is no joke. I've broken ribs before and honestly I don't know how he does it

Let’s say the Rams get Stafford for 2 more years.
Protect his ass like the Hope Diamond. Sign AJax. Get that stud swing tackle for depth and Hav understudy. I like Limmer but give him some competition and train him up (pass blocking????…..ehhhhh).
Higs was a breath of fresh air. Pump up that TE option.

Carson Beck, Shadeur Sanders, Quinn Ewers, Drew Allar, and Jalen Milroe? That wasn't supposed to be strong coming into the 2024/2025 season? Not as strong as 2024, of course, but potentially five quarterbacks who could likely have placed in the first round at the start of the year. That was at the start of the year; you can look that up. Not even mentioning Jaxson Dart or Conner Wiegman.

Of course, it didn't turn out the way we had hoped. 2026 might not turn out the way we hope either, Arch Manning aside. It's a poor class of quarterbacks at the top in this year, but there's quite a few developmental prospects that could be worth taking a shot on, like McCord or Ewers in the mid third.
FWIW, there were many reporters at the Athletic, The Ringer, Yahoo, ESPN and front office execs who were saying before 2024 started that all these guys did not have NFL level traits.

It was widely considered a bad class prior to them playing a down this last year.

Can't imagine playing football and taking more hits with cracked ribs. Fuck that.

Matt is one tough bastard. That's my QB.
