In McVays press conference he hesitated after saying “Well when Dotson goes out…you know what we’re not gunna make any excuses”. I just know he wanted to say without that injury we probably win the game and I agree with him.

Next draft we need a Center for sure, whatever else they prioritize. A young pivot who can fucking call it to the Rams satisfaction.

McVay would be even better with a strong OL coach.
Two great points.
The first is painful. How many drafts have come & gone, with no decent OC? Maybe Limmer was intended to be that guy, but the Creed Humphrey pass still indeed haunts us. We were all dead sure he'd be taken at that spot--it was a serious need AT THE TIME, & that has still yet to be properly addressed.
But, maybe it really is the OL coach, seeing how they all seem to be regressing in pass pro. It's also possible that they just over-focused on the run game, to the extent that the pass game was assumed to be OK. BC & KW getting almost 150 yds on the Iggles?? that's shows pretty nice run blocking. But PFF shows Dedich and Limmer with *00.0* pass blocking grades. I get that the Iggles DL is crazy strong, but putting up zeroes in the passing game is unacceptable, and with several OG slipping, we have to look at the OL coach.

Its so bizarre that fans cant let this go. The Rams won a Superbowl without Creed
Have to move on

Of course you need to take this with a grain of salt coming from me who still hasnt gotten over Nolan Cromwell dropped INT against the Steelers in the SB 40+ years agao....

offense

  • WR Puka Nacua: 83.8
  • RB Kyren Williams: 80.0
  • RG Kevin Dotson: 76.2
  • RB Blake Corum: 69.8
  • QB Matthew Stafford: 69.2
  • LT Alaric Jackson: 68.3
  • WR Davante Adams: 65.2
  • TE Davis Allen: 51.5
  • WR Tutu Atwell: 50.9
  • TE Colby Parkinson: 48.2
  • C Coleman Shelton: 44.8
  • LG Justin Dedich: 31.9

defense

  • DB Quentin Lake: 91.2
  • NT Poona Ford: 85.5
  • OLB Jared Verse: 81.5
  • DT Tyler Davis: 77.8
  • LB Nate Landman: 72.7
  • DT Kobie Turner: 70.4
  • OLB Byron Young: 64.7
  • CB Cobie Durant: 59.1
  • DB Jaylen McCollough: 56.7
  • DT Desjuan Johnson: 55.5
  • DT Ty Hamilton: 55.2
  • CB Emmanuel Forbes: 51.7
  • LB Omar Speights: 45.8

Your eyes didn't deceive you. Shelton is awful. Dedich got abused. I never understood the Shelton signing. Loved the Poona Ford signing from the jump and that looks good so far. Landsman too.
The Shelton signing is easy to understand: Limmer is worse.

These are all great locker room types who work hard and have some talent. But they're not the guys you want out there in big snaps. This is what's holding back the offense. OL is hit and miss even in the same game, even snap to snap on a given drive. Too much fluctuation.

Worst thing is Avila not only can't stay healthy but hasn't been all that great when he's been in there. It's like after his rook season he decided to rest on his laurels. Jackson I give full cred to for playing through his issues. So far. Now when Dotson goes out is when we see shit fall like a house of cards. Dedich / Shelton / Limmer is like an evil trinity of OL shit.

It is incredible that it wasn't long ago the interior line looked deep. Amazing what a difference a guy getting poached then another guy playing like dogshit can do to your iOL depth outlook.
We overhyped Avila after his rookie season. It's a common problem with fans. He was good...for a rookie. But even his rookie season performance was just average relative to the entire league. It wasn't above-average.

Now you know why I want to focus on interior OL in the draft instead of OT. Everyone but Dotson can be upgraded.

Limmer is not a guard - he is a center only

I would keep him off the active players list but keep him around if Shelton goes down.
Agreed that he is a center only. But to be clear, when I said he's worse, I'm referring to him being a worse center. He's a backup type, and as a 6th round pick, I'm fine with that.

I don't think we went too crazy with Avila. He played well, not elite but given that he was a round 2 iOL you know he's got upside so there was every reason to project improvement in his second go round. But that didn't happen. It's on him, probably related to injury as well, and I suspect OL coach but only McVay really knows for sure there.

Worst thing is that the Rams simply do not draft OL well. So how do you fix that. Well I'd say changing out the current OL coach would be a nice start. McVay has moved on from better OL coaches for less. I think his best OL hire was his first, though none of them are good enough for a coach of his caliber. He needs to just throw money at Munchak, no more moonlighting come in here and do the job and here's a fat check courtesy of the best owner in the NFL.

I think AJ is pretty damn good, yes he has blood clotting issues but I don't think he's an issue at all.

I don't want to jinx anything so will just say let's revisit that one after the season. But I think we need an OL draft in 2026. Because Center is a top need, and we really need a young OT with good feet who can start on that right side worst case and maybe slide over eventually. So I'd say two picks need to be invested in the OL prior to the end of Round 3. That's hard for McVay to do, given his predilection for offensive toys.

Also we need a QBotF as well as a CB1. Not sure how good this corner draft is, and that's a position I struggle with most in pre-draft estimating too (we can't get college all-22) so I just gotta hope they have that on the list.

They always address a lot of their needs in free agency, so it's unlikely that they'll need all of these items in the draft.

But if we're counting needs, add an offensive toy to the list since they'll need a replacement for Adams given his age and contract.

I'm with you though, I hope it's an OL focused draft.

I'm surprised Forbes, Jr. rated 51.7. He started off the 1st quarter with a nice pass defense. He must of gave up some completions the rest of the game, I assume.

Both Forbes and Durant have played like shit. Neither have been able to get their heads around in man coverage calls. Neither show any anticipation or ball awareness in zone either. I think both have done a few good things here and there, but snap to snap neither are good enough.
