Somebody explain to me why we couldn’t at least have had this guy running downfield and hitting people. Get him on the field. Let’s see what he’s got.
Yeah, like he doesn't have more juice than Rivers on the KR as well. That's a failure of the staff to not have this guy contributing somewhere. I see rookie RBs all over the league helping their teams, many drafted after Hunter.

Watching McVay's presser, he was asked to describe the new guys attributes. He mentioned, "urgent" "accountable", and "clear communication". So I would guess a few of those things are probably something Blackburn lacked.

I don't think he expected that punt to be punted right down the middle of the field. He mentioned that the next day that, "it wasn't placed where we wanted it." Maybe that was not communicated to Evans by Blackburn. The swift firing may indicate that.
If the punter needs to be told that meatball he put up over the middle is a no-go, then we have the wrong punter. :laugh2:

I agree with what you're saying though. McVay I think let that shit go too long but at least it's done now. Eager to see what the new leadership does with the opportunity.

I think the last time the Rams ran a fake punt was vs the 9ers in a game we came back to win. Was it the game X-man had that great return to set up the Rams to win the game?

Unbelievable how bad our STs have become.
If you watched the coaches show on YouTube tonight, he was asked about the lack of aggression on STs in recent years. He agreed and he took responsibility for that. He indicated he will be spending more time with that group. Not sure what they can do yet this year, but might bode well for more of a focus next year.

I would expect they can get more athletic on STs. Get an up back on punts who could be fast and physical enough to run for a first down and skilled enough to throw for one. And as we all have said, get more speed on both return & coverage teams.

Well your plan could be hit a punt with a lot of hang time to force a fair catch. Or you angle it out of bounds, which may risk a mis hit line drive or shank. So not a no brainer if your punter executes, but definitely something that everyone needs to be on the same page about.

Or maybe the offense can do better than punting the ball four times in a six minute time span. All you're doing is giving our subpar ST's more chances to fuck up.

This is what would piss me off every game is when the other team would attempt a FG,extra pt or Punt we never ever looked aggressive on trying to block it.Our guys basically stood there every dam time.Am I the only one seeing that?Like every team would be coming down our throats trying to block karty but we have never shown that towards other teams.Thank good these guy is gone and let's get some fire back with our special teams or we could be fucked in playoffs if it comes down to this.

Probably because they would make even bigger mistakes by running into the kicker. I say leave bad enough alone.

Don't punters also make the call sometimes to run a fake punt if they see something they like about how a team is lined up? It seems if a punter can make that call the special teams coach could too if he saw something he thought could work but I guess protocol is to run it by the HC
Im sure it depends on the team and coach.

Yes. I guarantee the intent was not a shallow meatball down the middle. Really that's the worst thing you can do in that situation if you are the punter. And there is never a situation where a shallow kick to the middle is called. If you kick to the middle then hang time should be part of the equation to buy time for your coverage.

I remember on rare occasions Hekk would outkick the coverage so badly that they'd get strung out and create lanes. But overall those units under Fassell were a well oiled machine. They just lacked the skilled return threats, Fish was better at making sure they had coverage talent than he was the return team.

Somewhere Bones is laughing
Screw Bones the way he did McVay calling the fake in Rams territory.
He purposely tried to sabotage the Rams and McVay once he found out
he wasn't going to be retained
His disgusting Name should be Banned from this board.
Would love nothing more than to punch his traitor ass in the face.

Been Watching some GSOT 1999 highlight clips.
GSOT was so big that I sometimes forget how nasty
the defense and special teams were.
Defense scoring all over the place. smothering QB's. some opposing QB's left the game beat too hell
and how super special our ST"s were. Tony Horne and Az returning
remember being so angry when we let Tony go in FA.
Rams Most electrifying KO return team of my life time.

Yes, that team was electrifying in all phases. They could score from anywhere, at anytime, no matter who had the ball.

Horne was simply a clerical issue all good teams face. The Rams simply could not re-sign everyone to a bigger contract. That team didn’t last because the pond never got re-stocked with new talent as the old went away. SJ39 was in position to take over for Faulk and Chris Long for Kevin Carter, but that was about it.

Hence the dark ages prior to the hiring of McVay.
