Love how this defense is coming together, although still a CB short if you ask me. Stats can be misleading. We have faced 3 back up QBs and a rookie QB in 4 of the 7 games. That does play a part. We are stacking W's and the pressure is becoming more consistent up front. Alot to be excited about but not going to get carried away yet.

Darius Williams seems to be getting better by the game.
He's going from average to pretty good.
As long as he keeps developing through the season that's a great thing.
He’s been good all year. He just struggles against bigger physical receivers. He clearly beat out Forbes for the #2 spot. When Witherspoon returns we’ll be in a good spot.

Yes. It would reinforce what I believe will be the strength of the team this year. The defense.

Hoping the offense is ready to play football week 1 this year for a change, because I feel like our D is going to wreck QB’s this year. Several of these good young guys are entering year 2, 3 and 4. Less thinking and more wrecking.

I think the defense will be very good this year.
A fast, swarming, hard piping, hungry buncha dudes. The secondary will have the occasional mental lapses.

The offense? Decent. Experienced, efficient but still slowish with limited quick strike ability. That’s WITH Stafford.

Avoiding another dreadful start to the season is a must have.

FIFY - unless you call Daniel Jones a back-up QB

This.

Or two weakest segments of our defense last year were stopping the run and defensive backs.
Or defensive backs were young and underdeveloped.
Will they have definitely developed as a group. Like night and day really.
And an amazing job of improving our defense against the run too.
Pretty unbelievable with the turnaround.

Not to suss out every possibility, but Poona Ford & Landshark are two of the most important FA acquisitions we've had in years. Our run D has been mediocre to bad for years & years, even with AD on the team. B.Wagner was supposed to help us in that regard but didn't pan out. These 2 players have turned a weakness into a strength overnight. Lake is also one of the best SS's we've had, and Kinchens & McCullough round out a nice S room. We are truly just 1-2 CB's from having an elite D.

Poona Ford, simply with his amazing ability to clog up the middle is forcing teams to run outside.
That's where they're met by Landman.
They've also coached up the other defensive tackles and edge rushers into stopping the run.
An amazing turnaround in camp and free agency and the draft to not only concentrate on but actually fix a major problem.

It's almost enough to make you pop a woodie. :)

What i didn't see coming was the Special Teams problems. Yikes

Love this defense, except when we play Shanny who makes us look silly.
I wonder if they've considered turning over the offensive play calling against the 49ers to somebody else to completely throw off rat face.

Just too much familiarity between McVay and Ratahan.

Or maybe just have our players drop some cheese by him when they're on the 9ers sideline to distract him.

It's a wonder what giving up 500 yards to one RB will do to your motivation.

IMO, Nick Hampton would probably be better served as an off the ball linebacker.

He doesn't get that many plays, but he appears to offer next to nothing as an EDGE defender.

Maybe it's special teams that keeps him on the roster and not the practice squad.

Poor blocking by middle OL on XP and FG. Not all on Karty. Letting Opposing D get their hands up, jumping in the air to block is unexcuseable. If the OL are doing their job right those D guys should be engaged enough that they can't get leverage and penetration. ST not doing a very good job.
I've gone back and watched, long snapper and guards getting over whelmed.
Couldn't see who's playing guard Rams need to find bigger people.

I keep seeing references to an elite D. Based on the numbers, relative to the league, we have an elite D now. Are we talking about an elite D relative to history, such as the 2000 Ravens?

Love the defense's numbers. But, I can't help but to notice that they really haven't played that many teams with top QBs yet.
