Checks out.

The Great Jerome Bettis says Rams made right pick (Steelers remain in Quarterback Purgatory)

Fact:
It was the right pick. Chances are pretty good they weren't going to be picking at #13 in the near future. They wanted Stafford's replacement long ahead of when they needed him to take over.

Fact:
Jerome Bettis can agree with that. Todd McShay can agree with that. Colin Cowherd can agree with that. And none of that assures Simpson is going to be the right guy to replace Stafford.

Fact:
We all hope he's the next best thing to Stafford

Scott McCoughan was on a podcast yesterday and said that the Rams overdrafted Ty Simpson. He said that Simpson would be a career backup and was like JJ McCarthy and Mac Jones. McCoughan was the GM for Washington during years when Sean McVay was their OC.

In March 2010, McCloughan and the 49ers agreed to a mutual termination of his contract, which was later revealed to be due to personal issues with alcoholism and an ongoing divorce.

Shortly after leaving the 49ers, McCloughan was hired by Seattle Seahawks general manager and close friend, John Schneider, to be a senior personnel executive on the team. McCloughan remained in this position until April 2014, when he again resigned due to personal issues.

In January 2015, McCloughan was hired as general manager of the Washington Redskins.
Despite helping build to the team to two straight winning seasons since his hiring, McCloughan was fired by the team in March 2017, again allegedly due to his issues with alcoholism.

Hmmm, lets see, former 49ers AND Seahawks employee, (no Ram hatred there) who gets shit-canned for being a degenerate Alcoholic EVERY time.

Okay, thanks for your input Drunky, we'll run it by Les and Sean and see what they think. Please check in with more analysis, Red....

Man you take every critcism personal don't ya lol? I'm just teasing by the way. I agree with the fella but yeah he's definitely got a sketchy past from the looks of it. No one knows what Simpson will be. Everyone is guessing/projecting, we'll eventually find out way later down the road what Simpson will actually be. Same shit I said would be rehashed all year a while back. Get used to it fellas, this conversation isn't going anywhere anytime soon unfortunately. Aw well, can't wait for the season to start or even see our 2 new alternate uniforms.

I am laughing my ass off here.....

“Ideally, he might start, but that’s because of where his pick was and they want to prove everybody right, you know, type of thing,” McCloughan said. “And that’s not the way you should build a roster. Not at all.”

Well at least he admits to not being a guru.

“I think the quarterback from Alabama is overdrafted,” McCloughan said in an appearance on The Team 980. “But it’s the position alone, you know. I think, not being a guru, but he’s like [Minnesota Vikings quarterback] J.J. McCarthy. He’s like [former New England Patriots quarterback] Mac Jones. He’s a career backup.”

Maybe he'll turn out to right. I doubt it.

But I can't but to wonder if the rumored relationship both McVay and he were said to have had with Diana Russini back in the day has a little to do with his comments.

BTW, on a side note I also wonder if that past Russini speculation was the outside thing was bothering McVay during the post 1st round interview. But, oh well.

It doesn't really matter. McCloughan. Florio. McShay. Kiper. Whomever. They all have an opinion and most are paid handsomely to share it. Doesn't mean a gawd damn thing. They have to say something. Anything. And until somebody shows me a score card confirming they are ALWAYS right....or half right....or sometimes right.....I couldn't care less what they think.

Quite honestly, until this thread I had no fucking idea who in the hell Scott McCoughan was. A quick google and I see he was a scout for Green Bay and Seattle. A VP of player personnel with SF. A GM for 2 years with SF. Senior Personnel Executive with Seattle (which sounds to me like, you don't have specific job but a nice title) and GM for 2 years with Washington.

So WTF does he know? With Washington (2015-16) he drafted 17 players. With SF (2008-09) he drafted 13. Six of those 30 have played 100 games or more in the NFL. 4 of the 30 never played in the NFL. 14 of the 30 didn't make it 3 years in the NFL. One made the pro bowl 5 times and All Pro once. Brandon Schereff. So he "hit" on the #5 player in the draft. Everybody else? Not so much. Tell me again why we're to value his fucking opinion? Based on what?

I'm not saying he couldn't be right but I give him the same odds I would give a blind squirrel or a broken clock. To parody Bill Polian, who in the hell is Scott McCloughan?
