I think taking Penix would be a lot smarter.Atlanta is going to trade for Justin Fields
I dont know if he's even a 1st round pickI think taking Penix would be a lot smarter.
He's absolutely a first round pick in two things that matter to me, which are can he win from the pocket and does he stand in there with a pair of balls and look down field. The guy has shit these others will struggle to learn because how do you teach a guy to have balls. You can teach a guy who wants to look downfield and kill teams deep to dump it off. But teaching the opposite is tough sledding because you're fighting his fear of the rush.I dont know if he's even a 1st round pick
Age, injury history, wonky release and folded like a cheap suit against Michigan.
But I agree thats a smarter play than Fields who I think is hot garbage
I just think that's the play they're going to make
How? Atlanta doesn't have a 7th round pickAtlanta is going to trade for Justin Fields
Fields can at least throw it over the middle. Penix hasn't show a good ability to do it. Tough choice but I think Fields has more to work with if he hasn't been hurt to much by Getsy.I think taking Penix would be a lot smarter.
I think taking somebody that hasn't had 4 season ending injuries before even getting to the NFL would be smarter. That's such a huge red flag to me.I think taking Penix would be a lot smarter.
And you'd have a fair point. For myself I'd accept that risk given that he can win from the pocket, assuming he doesn't have any structural issues from those previous injuries. Because in spite of the medical concerns I think he's got some special shit about him.I think taking somebody that hasn't had 4 season ending injuries before even getting to the NFL would be smarter. That's such a huge red flag to me.
Totally agree... been around too many folks who were given leadership positions that stunk up the joint - In reality, there were just telling people what to do...100% Great post
I've seen in my own personal life great leaders who weren't great individually but know how to lead, facilitate, and delegate properly and seen rock stars at a particular job but are complete shit as a leader or manager.
I personally hope he does well, I like him as a man and person.
Fields has a head start and a clean injury sheet. But Fields will never be a top QB.Fields can at least throw it over the middle. Penix hasn't show a good ability to do it. Tough choice but I think Fields has more to work with if he hasn't been hurt to much by Getsy.
For me personally, for any team: Penix in the 1st... meh. Penix in the 2nd... eh??
The guy was handed a number 1 defense with two HOF’s and added a third one. His whole career his avg. yards and points given under his defenses are like 19 and 21.I appreciate people see him differently.. but, to me.. one of his biggest strengths is the ability to adapt.
He never ran a fangio scheme.. came in… learned it.. incorporated new players.. and had the defense absolutely kicking ass in the playoffs.
21 had health issues and a lack of a second real edge opposite Floyd… that hurt.
This year? If you listen to guys outside the Rams bubble.. Raheem was fantastic and, “trying cool shit” in the back end.
I think the perception of him is colored strongly by the aesthetics of his defense… not its effectiveness.
Obviously, people around the league think he can coach his ass off.
I agree been thinking and saying a long while this draft had the 1983 draft potential with the talent in it.Yeah Atlanta badly needs a face of the franchise. Teams like them are why I am thinking maybe we see a run on QBs in round 1. Last time I counted the teams ahead of us there were 8ish that I think are in need, so we might get helped out here by seeing guys like Nix, Penix, McCarthy go off the board before us and bump down a player we need.
If it wasn't for the injuries I'd put Penix very high. But this particular year with other QB options there's a good chance he slides a bit, though probably not too far due to QB need in this league. McCarthy I think is a 2nd round talent but he has the title. Nix is a hell of an athlete and fits WCO of which damn near everyone is running it or wants to.
So I'm hoping 6 QBs go off that board before 19. Then we get the 13th ranked non-QB to kick this class off.

I see Raheem as a quality guy, with the attributes one expects from a true leader - vision, confidence and ability to instill camaraderie. That will bring out the best of the people around you.
And the last game the Rams played that season.. the Pack put up almost 500 yards on them. The guy was handed a number 1 defense with two HOF’s and added a third one. His whole career his avg. yards and points given under his defenses are like 19 and 21.
He literally walked into a SB (just like Barry Switzer with the Cowboys did) that people use as a reason he’s great tailgating off:
1. 2020 #1 personal
2. 3 HOF’s
3. An offense in 21 that ranked 9th in yards and 7th in points.
In 2021 and 2022 he used a ton of his outdated adapted Tampa 2 alignments and/or concepts which didn’t work to well.
Raheem as a leader is unquestionable, he’s amazing.
Raheem as a DC is slow to adjust and adapt but he for sure start getting it right in 2023.

I really want to trade down 2-3 times to build our haul but I guess that depends on our FA, could be a gem drops to 19. Starting to get excited with the possibilities.
100% agree.
I have a new boss now that only knows how to tell people what to do. Has zero how to inspire, collaborate, and lead from the front.
When I’ve had leaders like the ones you describe in the second paragraph it brings out the best of me because I will put 100% out just so I won’t be the one to let that person down or the team down, weird how that happens.
...In 2021 and 2022 he used a ton of his outdated adapted Tampa 2 alignments
Like it or not, that's the truth.it's Fangio's. The off coverage is part of his scheme..
And it never was. Rams did not run a lot of Tampa-2 in 2021, 2022 or 2023. Bottom 5 in NFL init's not a Tampa 2.
And that's Cover-2, we're not even separating out Tampa-2 which is it's own thing, right?Like it or not, that's the truth.

Rams are Cover-3 and Cover-4/6/8 family.
It's not even debatable -- we're talking 3 or 4 % of the time.
and sorry for the inconsistency in graphs --- all same source - Cody uses PFF and two of the charts
are his 2 are theirs

It's official. Not a small loss, curious to see what we do there. Glad for him. Glad for Morris. Now go get Kirk Cousins!
Right, a portion of that 3% has a hole player. And that's Cover-2, we're not even separating out Tampa-2 which is it's own thing, right?
