Very different players. McCreary definitely gives us a guy who can play and excel even at nickel but half our defensive rotations will be out the window as we probably don't want MC rotating from or into deep half/middle field.

Our ability to disguise coverages really took a hit for sure.

Glad to have him though.
McCreary is a "come lately", not sure he has the defensive knowledge of Shula's system. I belive fill ins will be Kinchens, McCollough, and Wallace. In that order.

Wallace did not seem like he embarrassed himself in Seattle, curious to maybe see more. Hate to remove McCollough from the dime-backer role where he's so good but he could be interesting in Lake-lite type usage.

I'm gonna disagree.

Look at all these young players Shula has been coaching the last 1.5 seasons and with the few exceptions (Kendricks) he has been able to get his point across with surgical clarity. Though not a young player but look what Shula has done for Landmans career.

Roger McCreary has entered the chat.
He has to be the favorite at this point.

My guess on dropoff is the defense of course will miss the leadership, also Lake is very stout vs the run. But McCreary is no slouch vs the run. And he is a corner, so brings more athleticism to the discussion. You're probably talking a good tenth of a second difference in them, which is not a lot, but it helps in coverage.

Also I have always liked McCullough's ability to make plays. I don't think he's got the athleticism to be the replacement, however his instincts are great and in the slot you can help him out a little.

And I feel the need to add that maybe Williams can reclaim a more important role for the rest of the schedule. He's a dropoff in terms of tackling from those other two (Lake & McCreary), however he's also savvy in coverage and certainly good enough for the slot.

Well, both those guys were usually out there with Lake and 2 CBs (two of Forbes, Durant and Williams).

A couple of the above five players could be asked to take-on different responsibilities but the main question is who will join them. Josh Wallace was the guy on Sunday; and McCollough could see additional snaps. Curious to see if McCreary gets some snaps on defense, as more of a pure Nickel-CB (his primary role in TN).

Guessing Kam Curl wears the green-dot because of a positive comment McVay made on his Monday presser.
I thought Landman had the green dot.

I thought two defensive players wore it but I think you are absolutely correct ...

Pretty amazing how we rebuilt our safety unit in 2 years.
Kinchens
Curl
McCullough
Losing Lake would have been devastating if we hadn't restocked.
Yeah, I remember that Baltimore game two years ago where Fuller just looked so slow and overmatched, giving up big plays downfield. It was obvious we needed guys who could make plays and Kinchens gave us that. Now Lake has blossomed, added Curl and McCollough, and even Wallace was a nice addition.

Per the Rams' Team site, there are already two new names on the Rams' Practice Squad ... both DBs ... bringing the total to 17 (believe 16 is the limit) ... they are Alex Johnson and Chris Smith.

PK Harrison Mevis is now listed on the 53 man roster ... bringing the total to 51.
Figure at least one PS player is brought-up; and guessing it will be TE (Muse or Redman) to get back to 4 TEs.

Johnson is a CB (out of UCLA) and has been on several teams Practice Squads.
Smith is a S, was a 5th round pick in 2023 out of Georgia by the Raiders and was released just the other day. Looks like he has only played Special Teams the past three years.

I like Redman. I think he can be TE4 next year.

I looked at Redman's bio. He's younger than I thought he was. Only twenty-three. I read somewhere where it listed him at twenty-six, but maybe that was the other tight end we had that year as an UDFA (Torres).

Redman looks like a blocking tight end at this level. Had a good year at San Diego State University as a sophomore, but never really repeated it. Didn't do anything at Washington, transferred to Louisville.

Smith was just released this week. Seems like he never played on the Defense for the Raiders, he was strictly a STs guy the last 2 1/2 years.

He was a finalist for the Naguriski award in 22'. Had 3 picks, including one in the championship game against Bryce Young. 6 career picks overall.

Johnson had a nice preseason for the Colts apparently. Had a 90 PFF rating in preseason. Seemed to be well thought of, I guess just not good enough to crack their lineup. They cut him on final cutdown. He was recently released by the Titans on Nov 4th.

Maybe this was mentioned earlier. If so I missed that.

Anyway, I just saw AJ Greene was signed off our PS by Miami. Son's a bitches...

So that explains the addition of two CBs.
Thanks for the information.

Disappointed because I liked the way Green played in the pre-season, and he was brought-up for two games this year. However, he is 27, and came into the League in 2020 ... so this is his 6th season out of college.
Although there are late-bloomers, Green would be an extreme case if he's anything more than an average back-up. I'm trying to make myself feel a little better about this.

Was talking more about the tight end, Mark Redman, who would be to replace Higbee. Him or Muse.
