John Mateer is in hot water for gambling allegations. If the NCAA finds him guilty, he's definitely off of my draft list. No way do I take a 6'0" quarterback with character concerns.

He's not supposed to do anything like that. NCAA rules are explicitly clear on that. It doesn't matter if it's $10, $100, $1,000, or even $1; he's not allowed to gamble any money on his own sport, which the Venmo clearly stated he did - and if you include the joke of "sports gambling" - even if it's only a joke - it makes him look extremely stupid.

Do you want someone that stupid at quarterback for the Rams? Do you think McVay would have patience for someone that stupid as his signal-caller of the future when he had none for Goff?

Taking a sledgehammer to a mosquito I see.
Whats sick to me are the folks out there looking to ruin a 20 year old kids life over a $20 bet with friends
Stalking venmo to find dirt? Good lord
I'm much more concerned about Bennett's drinking history/rehab, which comes in around a 2 out of 10 on a concern scale (10 being the highest)

Ruin his life? Mateer did it entirely to himself. Posting the title "sports gambling" for a bet as a professional athlete - two payments, including one of a game in his own conference, on a Venmo account under his own name, no less; it's not rocket science to look that up, and I guarantee NFL teams do the exact same thing. - is stupid, and you don't do that as a professional athlete, even as a joke. People weren't nearly as sympathetic in other cases with young athletes who were around Mateer's age and did the exact same thing.

And here's the thing: his life isn't ruined yet. The maximum suspension he's facing is six games - if that. He'll have to answer questions to NFL scouts and GMs. He'll still likely go to the Combine, since what he did is not a criminal offense. He could possibly get drafted if he plays well enough.

My question is this: do you honestly want someone this stupid as your signal-caller for the next however long after Stafford? And do you think McVay would have any patience with someone this stupid?

2 10$ payments when he was a freshman
Gimme a break
18 year old kids do stupid things.
Congrats to the low life who had nothing better to do with his life than to scrub venmo
Guys get granted "second chances" over much worse

Now the Rams can use a 2nd rounder on him and use the 2 1sts for a stud WR and OT
Not a bad strat -- QB is supposedly deep in 2026 -- but I want our Rams to get the best QB of this draft & this kid is 6'0" and already has some controversy.

Eighteen-year-old kids do stupid things, but that doesn't mean there aren't consequences to their actions. He knew damned well he wasn't supposed to do it, and he did it anyway.

And as to looking up Venmo stuff, I guarantee that NFL teams would do the exact same thing; they're that thorough.

And you didn't answer my question: do you really want someone who did something this stupid as your quarterback, and do you think McVay would have any patience for someone this stupid as his quarterback?

It doesnt raise a blip on the radar of concern for me, not in the slightest
And probably bothers McVay even less
Heck I think even Steve Spagnolo and his Four Pillars would laugh this one off

Thank you for answering. I disagree...but I respect your thoughts.
