In a couple years he'll be 30. I mean at that point you could conceivably get a few good years out of him so anything is possible. Think they go with somebody young but that's just me. He's looked good and had good throws but he still has a mid ranged arm.
and a taller QB might have seen the lineman.

Tommie Frazier is my all-time favorite college QB. Of course I'm also a Nebraska homer. He was a stud in that ground and pound offense and they were basically unbeatable during his time.
Not to sidebar, but if Tommie Frazier played in today's game, he'd have been a #1 overall pick and talk of the draft
And I am NOT a Nebraska homer....

Frazier had some extraordinary attributes including leadership & the ability to extend plays, but going from that offense to a pro style offense would have been a challenge. Maybe you’re right, it’s too bad he never got the chance.

When is the last time we were 2-0 in the preseason? When is the last time we averaged 27 ppg through the preseason?

And despite the closer score, we dominated this game similar to the first one. Coming away empty on 4th and goal, the catch the Chargers got that was not a catch IMO right before half and the punt return all make this game closer.

We dominated them in yardage and they even played some starters.

This appears to be the deepest team we've had with McVay

If McVay calls the plays I doubt he’s as loose as Scheelhaase. Maybe that’s a part of it.

I know you’re kidding, but they for sure fudged the measurement for him. I’ve met Brees twice when I lived in Oxnard and they held training camp there. I’m 6’0 and I was definitely taller than him. He’s a little fella.

Hell of a QB tho.

One thing of note in the comparison is…

Brees is one of the greatest passers of all time in spite of his height, not because of it.

I like Bennett and do think he can play, but he’s not Drew Brees
Have met him multiple times.. he's just over six feet.

Still feel like he came out of his shoulder surgery with a stronger arm.

Loved what I saw of Bennett.. but, to me, the ceiling is a 3rd QB. The arm ain't great.. and he could've had 3 pick-sixes in this game.

As a 3rd QB.. fine. As a backup? Not gonna give you much.

The Rams have really developed into a program, imo.. along the lines of the Ravens. I feel like the first era of McVay's was an all-out race to do everything it takes to win ONE Super Bowl.

Now? I think with McVay is in it for the long haul and they're constructing a team based on that. That's why they've handled the Stafford situation the way they have, including risking losing him this offseason.

I said after the first week.. it's just a very well-coached team. Really nice to see.

It'll just be a bummer if Stafford can't go.. because, with him, this is a Super Bowl contender.

If I was a college I would come calling for Nate Scheelhaase. He has coached under Matt Campbell at Iowa State and now Sean McVay, very impressive. Big 12 Team would seem to be a good fit, however, he has spent much of his collegiate time in the Midwest (Iowa & Illinois). He might desire an OC gig in the NFL, teaming up with a defensive coach that gets hired next year, like, Chris Shula for example.

say what you want about Bennett, but look at it this way.. the guy hasn't played in a real game in a few years, and looked sharp these past few games. He's still knocking the rust off IMO

That's the way I see things. Taking nothing away from the individual accolades, I think the reason the offense has been so successful is exactly this. McVay giving his assistants the reigns changes the game plan/play calling
I think its brilliant but have to keep things in perspective from a player success angle

FWIW IMO, TE Mark Redmon is having a nice preseason. Not going to make the team, unless the Rams trade Parkinson, however, I like Redmon for the practice squad and I know he was on the Rams radar to draft and that is why the signed him quickly as an UDRFA.

Did not look like a QB3-ceiling QB to me, and that is playing with a bunch of nobodies. You see alot of QB2 and QB3 making that deep TD pass he made on a rope?

Not too long ago this was the prevailing opinion around here, and I received a ton of flak for so much as suggesting that Bennett may be able to, in year three, compete for QB2 against the iconic and amazing Jimmy Garoppolo. But look around this league at QB2s. They're generally limited physically, mentally a tick slower, older, etc. And in that window Jimmy was riding a high here on the board from camp comments from McVay that gushed about him, and later his destruction of the Dallas secondary that was missing a ton of players in scrimmage. Then vs the Saints we heard he came back to earth a bit which tbh is expected. There is a reason he's a QB2.

So for Bennett all he's done so far is play well vs two opponents. And in playing well he has had throws that were questionable, even that late throw he made to put us in the redzone late was something you don't want to do normally and vs starters. He could have had a much worse line, like 3INT to go with 3TDs.

But on the flip side of that he has done this with dudes who are not going to be on the roster, which is not easy. Have Stafford start two entire games in preseason and you can bet you'll have plenty to knock him on. Bennett has given a lot of these weapons a chance to be featured when they are often (with lesser depth QBing) just running routes as it pertains to putting up film. And when he had the starters out there he was on fire. That first drive was outstanding. So what would he look like with the starters? Well nobody knows. But I would guess he'd look like a typical QB2.

For me this goes back to my belief that there are QBs who can win without a run game and then everyone else. Stafford is the former. JG is the latter and so is Bennett. And at the top end of those types are the most talented ones, or who best fit that run game balance when it's there, like the dude in SF for example. But for me I don't see a ton of separation among those who fall lower in that group, who let's say start for maybe 10-15 of the worst teams depending on the season in question. So acting like Bennett is a QB3 at best is a very negative take, and you're certainly welcome to your opinion but I disagree with it just like I disagreed a couple weeks back with the idea that Bennett had no hope of competing for QB2 this year in camp.

Agree, he has made some big catches and just looks the part out there.
I can’t imagine him not being one of the early PS announcements
