A couple of plays a game is not worth it, compared to a starting CB for example. You know how long it takes a TE to get caught up to the NFL game.
If that's all he could give, then I would agree.

But, this kid would automatically be the best blocking TE on the team and if used properly could be a major matchup problem for defenses to contend with thus again opening up things for others. That value is FAR MORE than just a couple plays here or there.

This selection wouldn't preclude the team still getting a starting CB later. But, how many significant matchup problems can be had later?

Timetable to get caught up to NFL game? Depends upon the player. But, to be worthy of the selection, Sadiq would be more of a H-Back / FB / WR initially, IMO. That Jet sweep they tried with Ferguson? That works with Sadiq.

As things stand today, I think Mansoor Delane is the guy I'd target at #13. And I'd be willing to move up a few spots to jump Dallas and Miami to land him. Even if we sign a top CB in FA, we still need help at the position. Delane is a perfect scheme fit and has All Pro CB potential. He is great in zone coverage. His ability to trigger and close while in zone coverage is rare. Outstanding awareness too. Good ball-skills. He's also very skilled in press man due to his fluid hips and acceleration. Though, he does have short arms.

His weakness is physicality. He'll step up and do his job as a run defender, but he doesn't revel in physicality. Pile watcher. But I can live with that from a CB with his cover skills and athletic gifts. The fact that he will come downhill and hit guys when they run to his side makes it easier to swallow.
As long as he's not a Marcus Peters, who did everything in his power to avoid contact (and Delane isn't from what I've seen either) I'd be good with that choice.
And yeah, a solid FA signing at this position is ideal and necessary, IMO, too.

I don't know about needing Love but if he is there at 13 I would be real surprised if he wasn't the highest ranked player on their board by a wide margin. I expect him to be gone by the 13 but if he ends up the pick I certainly wont cry about it.
If Love is there at 13 I think you absolutely pick him BUT no way he's there at 13.

Agreed. So if he's not there at 13, TAKE SIDIQ. Think of the 12 personnel packages McVay could develop with he and Ferguson with Puka and Adams. And Williams or Corum on the field as well. With Stafford. They would eclipse last year's pts/game by 3-4 pts. Sign or trade for a vet CB and take the best available DB at 29. GET RIGHT ON THIS, SNEAD!
No thanks on Sadiq that high, not worth it to me. Trade back if he's the target.

I am still holding out hope for a Trent McDuffie trade. In that scenario there's no pressure to take a CB first and they can go BPA.

Is the 29th overall selection OK to give up to a team in cap trouble when you've basically have to give him a huge new deal in order to not lose your investment? And if you give him a huge new deal does that mean the team won't be extending another player and should look to replace that player with a high selection? Decisions. Decisions.

FA needs at CB1 (Dean, Watkins, LTaylor) and CB3 (McCreary, Durant) take precedence. Linderbaum would set that OL but he’s projected at $20m+.
Shelton has a $9.5M cap hit this year. Shitcan him, save $4.5M of that, then go sign that 25 year old goddamn stud of a Center.

Then sign McClendon. Rams then are paying 3 of their OL, those being both OT and C.

Avila and Dotson play out 2026 and leave in FA after the season. Also for 2026 Rams would have an elite OL and probably win a title.

Draft an OG this year. Then another in the 2027 draft, and your OL is young as hell, good as hell, and ready to support a young QB with the experienced and Pro Bowl pivot in place.

The more I consider the possibility the more I am convinced that we need Jeremiyah Love.

I also haven't seen anyone banging the table for a run at Linderbaum in FA. I cannot be the only person who is salivating at the idea of an elite C and an elite RB and the impact that would have on this offense.
Fairly certain Linderbaum resigned with Ravens for a record deal.

Not yet.

Ravens' GM (DeCosta) said last week that Baltimore made a 'market setting offer' but nothing's been signed.
Another example of the flaw in the rookie 1st round contract, its so stupid that they have to pick up or decline the 5th year option after the 3rd year. That said, I dont know why they declined the option last year

Yeah, I suspect if you're trading for McDuffie one of the younger players is scratched out of the plans. Maybe you move on from a Byron Young when at first they planned to sign him.

But that doesn't necessarily mean you have to use a high draft pick to replace them.
