Now that we have many of the testing results, I’d be interested to see what everyone’s top 13 is. Obviously that is because we pick at 13 and, according to what your board is, we are guaranteed to get a shot at (at least) one of your top 13. For this exercise, we are going to assume that everyone’s health checks out fine. Past injury history is still a factor, but, clean bill of health currently for this exercise.

Mine:

1. QB Mendoza – Takes care of our future QB problem
2. S C.Downs – A blue chip stud to anchor our secondary. Can play nickle, FS, or SS for us.
3. CB McCoy – No knee injury and he is talked about as a blue chip player. Could be our new Ramsey for our SB run.
4. CB Delane – Just a stud CB. Just behind McCoy but no slouch either.
5. LB Styles – I have him above Reese because he is a proven all world MLB who I think could rush the passer on the edge, similarly to his teammate.
6. Edge Reese – Excellent athlete, lacks experience at edge for me to put higher
7. EDGE Bailey – Just a freaky guy that knows how to get after the QB
8. EDGE Bain Jr – He is pretty similar to Verse, which is not a bad thing
9. RB J.Love – He would be amazingly fun in our offense, would need a trade of one of our backs for this to work IMO. He'd be ranked higher if I knew we had a trade lined up.
10. S Thieneman – I knew this guy was a balled, I didn’t know he would blow the combine up this emphatically. This guy could and should be tried at CB some and could play the nickle as well as either safety position easily.
11. WR Lemon – He measured better then I expected. My favorite WR in this draft. Another WR in the mold of Puka out there would not suck.
12. WR Tyson – Probably the best all around WR in the draft. Injury history is pretty bleak however.
13. TE Sadiq – Was always intriguing but the combine was legendary. The offense he was in at Oregon did not utilize him as much as perhaps it should have.

Realistically, I couldn’t be mad about any of the above players being our pick at 13. How does yours look?

Is this who we expect in the top 13 or who are our top 13?

Interestingly, I think in such a weak class the consensus top 13 in this class will start breaking down around 8-9 and then it really becomes eye of the beholder as I'm getting the sense that 10-40 are gonna be graded pretty similarly.

I'd have a pretty similar 1-9 to you with maybe a guy or two switched.

I would add McNeil- Warren as a guy that would make a significant impact on the defense that might not be a reach at 13 or after a small trade back.

*Can play multiple positions on the back seven.
*Nine forced fumbles with his peanut punch skills.
*Good ball skills.
*Physical presence

Hopefully a couple OL stand out today and go in that top 12.

I would hold off on WR and try to get one at 29, 61, or 93. Or maybe at another pick they may get in a trade down.

Guys like Cooper, Concepteion, Bernard could be taken at 29

Hurst, Lane, Fields, Lance, Surratt, Caldwell, and others maybe at 61 or later

Mendoza's not realistic. But I'd be good with McCoy or Delane. Downs would be a good safety but with Lake, Kinchens and possibly Curl we're ok at that position. We need corners a more than safety. In fact, that is our biggest area of need. I wouldn't be unhappy if they took the best corners available at 13 and 29.

We really can't know what makes sense until we see FA playout. If they add a couple solid CBs then 13 doesn't have to be a CB. If they re-sign Curl then probably not a S.

Yeah, all this stuff get's thrown out the window once FA settles and we do it all again!!

Don't know that there are many guys in this class that once you fill out a need in FA, you're like this guy is BPA and we HAVE to take him.

Weak class with top talent at less valuable positions. The more I dig in, the more I'm getting a sense that draft boards everywhere will start breaking down as early as picks 7-9.

Realism is not really taken into account when you are just listing your top 13 prospects for the Rams at pick 13. Not having him on the list would not be realistic IMO.

I want one if the following even if it requires a trade up:

  1. Caleb Downs, S, Ohio State
  2. Sonny Styles, LB, Ohio State
  3. Arvell Reese, EDGE/LB, Ohio State
  4. Jeremiyah Love, RB, Notre Dame
  5. Monroe Freeling, OT, Georgia
  6. Mansoor Delane, CB, LSU
  7. Francis Mauigoa, OT/G, Miami
  8. Fernando Mendoza, QB, Indiana
  9. Jermond McCoy, CB, Tennessee
  10. Rueben Bain, EDGE, Miami
  11. David Bailey, EDGE, Texas Tech
  12. Kenyon Sadiq, TE, Oregon
  13. Omar Cooper Jr., WR, Indiana

1. Mendoza. Top dog.
2. Love. Elite back and has hands.
3. Bailey. Should be first Edge off board due to Bain's arm measurements.
4. Styles. Elite athlete and has almost everything you want in a top ILB.
5. Bain. Probably an impact rusher so won't drop far.
6. Downs. I don't think he's a rare but he is very polished and plugs right in.

Then it seems like a bit of dropoff. Lot of these guys are probably midround 1st values...

7. Tate. Best all around wideout. Plugs in at X and will be able to get off the line.
8. Lemon. I think he is solely a slot.
9. Mauigoa. May end up at guard. This tackle class sucks at the top but has some projects.
10. Delane. Top corner on the board who is healthy.
11. Boston. Very close to Tate.
12. Reese. I think he's an ILB. If he's an Edge I'd take him later which means he's probably off board by 29.
13. Woods. I don't like how they used him. If Rams are considering 3T he's my guy at 13.

Some guys I really like for 13, at least would be in discussion for me:

Theieneman if they want a deep middle support safety.
McDonald if they want to beef the DL on the nose.
Proctor if they want to address OT. Yes he's a project but I like him.

There's some bigger names folks are used to that I don't rate all that highly or don't like the injury history:

Banks... Cannot stand him. He's gonna bust.
McCoy... I don't want a quick twitch athlete coming off a major knee injury.
Tyson... If you're fragile in college the NFL is gonna be worse.

Overall 13 doesn't feel like a good spot to me. So I'd be prone to move up or down to position for someone I really want.

Special talents or unique players likley available at 13, even if a slight reach. No particular order.

TE - Sadiq (potential freak TE/WR combo)

FS/ Star - Theineman (can do it all in the back 7)

S/Star - McNeil-Warren (Never has to leave the field... see above)

OG - Ioane (Best interior OL)

OLB - Howell (Special pass rusher with bend, smallish, but considered tough against run as well)

5T - Faulk (Best football still ahead, very versatile, can play anywhere on the front 4.

WR - Lemon (Could be a great slot guy, baller and special playmaker)

Lot of people talking Freeling up. Looking at his age he's 21 which, ok, I get that you'd be jumping on the upside. Because I don't think he's all that polished, but this is a down year at OT at the top. Wondering if he's gonna be the major riser that comes out of nowhere to go in that upper range.

Re: the Rams they could use a good young OT. If they love his upside I suppose I'd be fine with that, as if you go OT in this draft you're gonna be projecting.

Whenever I see a guy get a lot of media hoopla right after the combine it makes me think it's a guy the media types find out the scouts are far higher on. Gonna need to watch some Dogs.

Yeah, this is what I've been feeling, too. I suspect we may move off that pick.

As things stand today, I think Mansoor Delane is the guy I'd target at #13. And I'd be willing to move up a few spots to jump Dallas and Miami to land him. Even if we sign a top CB in FA, we still need help at the position. Delane is a perfect scheme fit and has All Pro CB potential. He is great in zone coverage. His ability to trigger and close while in zone coverage is rare. Outstanding awareness too. Good ball-skills. He's also very skilled in press man due to his fluid hips and acceleration. Though, he does have short arms.

His weakness is physicality. He'll step up and do his job as a run defender, but he doesn't revel in physicality. Pile watcher. But I can live with that from a CB with his cover skills and athletic gifts. The fact that he will come downhill and hit guys when they run to his side makes it easier to swallow.

Think he'd be a great fit... but also thinking there's a world where he and McCoy could be gone by 13 (to Dallas and Miami as you say) and not sure I want to trade up for him.
