I mean for all i know he could be Deacon Jones reincarnate lol! But from what I seen from watching him I don't see him consistantly dominating a game to dictate or justify a top 2 pick expecially considering Who we already have at DE and what our other teams needs are. It's like drafting Bridgewater with our pick..... why?

Yep I was looking for that 4th option in this pole too. I know the desire is to get an elite player with his either #1 or #2 pick but once again another trade similar to the 2012 trade would be so much better. Snead in spite of the poor performance of Snead second 2012 trade (trade down) that net- Brockers/Pead/Watkins where Pead & Watkins were just bad picks ...Snead has more than made up for this stinky with the others...his track record is OUTSTANDING so I say lets get him going once again maybe 3 or 4 trade downs & gather early second day draft picks that can assist us in the quest for "Winning TEAM FIRST building" not elite player building.

imho when teams are bad and have lots of holes to fill it is good to trade down so you can fill more holes . i just don't see that many holes
in this team. if we take clowney best cb best fs with first 3 picks. only possible hole left on d f is lb but i'm happy with what we have. then trade up with rest of picks and get best ot and og thats left. the only hole left on o f is #1 wr but for a team that only throws 20 passes a game do we need one. if we draft a 1 wr it will take targets away from our young player who need the reps to mature. by trading down we get alot of players that have to have roaster spots so who do you cut ray ray cunningham( sp) and then the next year you cut those players to make room for the next bunch.

Well Hello iamme33(Dan) So nice to have you join in with us and welcome aboard to the best Ram Forum there is! First time I have had the pleasure to see you pop up in my range. Also good to see you can provide for the family with such nice trophy size fresh water trout! I have never had the luxury of such a pleasure down here in Salt Life territory. Finally great to have a fellow well seasoned Ram fan aboard too.

I would not have too many issues with a DE/CB/Safety with the first picks but I sure would worry about keep Sam Bradford upright & healthy! The current Ram OL will have four starters entering into free agency & the waiting on the rehabbing event on OLT Jake Long will cause me nightmares!

That was Peppers's biggest knock in college and throughout his career. They said he lacked the work ethic to be the best and didn't have a consistent motor. They were right...but the guy still ended up being a HOF caliber player.

As far as the rotation, we already rotate our players a lot. Sims and Hayes have a combined 700+ snaps this year. They both average playing around 35% to 40% of the snaps per game. Clowney could very easily play 40-50% of the snaps next year if we wanted him to. Hell, it's possible he would even eventually take Long's starting job.

Not only Julius Peppers. But, Mario Williams, Kevin Carter, and a few other NFL successes got the same rap coming out of college.

Disagree I have not seen enough of these Ram Lb'ers to know how specific their strengths or weaknesses are but I do know the are all very fast & Bates & Ray Ray sure can hit ! Both of these have safetys in their back ground.

Fisher went with well seasoned veteran who could play all the required LB'ing positions while Dunbar was gone. None of these rookie Lb'ers got any shot to fill Dunbar place because there was no space to fill...Spoon had it all covered!
You say potato and I say over the hill has been (Spoon). Sounds like you think Fisher chose experience over talent. I think he did both. We'll have to see how that shakes out.

My thought is you have your DB's fix this problem...we had two very serious injuries in the secondary with CF & TJ Mac. Forcing Fisher to use safety Giordano in place of TJ Mac & safety McLeod to fill in for Nickel CF ...that then required safety Stewart to fill McLeod safety duties...Neither of those two back ups were up to the job! New rookies like CB Dennard & S/Nickle Joyner will more than fix it!
I agree with all of this except the pink stuff. I think that would be denying that LBs are frequently needed and used in coverage. Long gone are the days where LBs just stop the run and rush the passer IMO.

As an aside, I wouldn't call CF's injury serious. I prefer to call it a lucky break for us. Kind of a mean thing to say during the holidays but IMO true.

Question- Why would you want to rotate 3 first round picks if you draft Clowney? Don't see cutting Long's playing time with the $$ he just got. Your certainly not going to take snaps away from Quinn. I get why people want him, but the pick just doesn't make sense to me.

Not concerned about the round. But, I watched the Giants win a Super Bowl with Michael Strahan, Osi Umenyiora, and Justin Tuck. They then then turned around a few years later to win another one with Strahan replaced by a 1st round DE that most argued they didn't need in Jason Pierre-Paul.

Notice that everyone remembers those guys, but how many remember the names of the players on the back 7 of the defense.

In 2014, I'd replace Eugene Sims in the rotation with Clowney. He'd backup both Quinn and Long with Hayes keeping a player defenses have to account for at DE on the field at all times. And I'd turn him lose in those 4 DE sets ala Justin Tuck. All combined he'd be a double digit sack guy easy. And I'd just watch just how much better the defense gets.

Yep he was the only one that come to my mind and one thing we know he hated being a Ram & its Ram Fans. Richie was signed for five seasons & finished only two. Before Richie came & wen the last OG that made it as a Ram was in 1986 with Tom Newberry.You can not name a center who was drafted in that range that played center for the Rams going all the way back to the 1950's! So the saying the Rams can pick up an OG or OC in rounds 3 or 4 rounds basically has not been done successfully for close to 3 decades.

If Matthews lives up to his billing and replaces Barksdale then J. Long = large upgrade
If Gilbert lives up to his billing and replaces C. Finnegan = huge upgrade
If Haha Clinton-Dix lives up to his billing and replaces McLeod = large upgrade

And If Watkins lives up to his billing he replaces....no one because they have no one CLOSE to his ilk = Off the charts upgrade.

I'm still leaning towards Matthews if no trade-down.
The youth factor and potential talent on this team has been set in motion at nearly every position(QB/RB/WR/TE/DLine/LB's/DB's)...except for the OLine.

I believe its a good idea to have a veteran OLine vs a young inexperience group,but our veteran group is FRAGILE. Well's,Long and Saffold aren't guys i want to rely upon week after week as far as durability and as a result,continuity.

Boudreau is a proven asset to this group of guys,so there's that. Let's invest in some fresh talent up front to go along with J.Long and Coach B.

I can name another guard that I liked drafted even better and even lower. Mark Setterstrom drafted in the 7th round. Started 6 games his rookie year and opened the 2007 season as the starter. Started the first 3 games, got a knee injury and never made it back. Damn good guard as I remember him.

To be fair though, how many have we actually drafted in the 3rd or 4th round? Probably very few. I don't think you can make any kind of definitive statement on such a small sample. Try looking at all 32 teams for the last 15 years (not asking much am I? :lol and tell me you can't draft a good one.

You know my views about drafting Jack of all trades type players. Mediocrity at all positions. I want specialists. Saffold is a prime example of that. Sure, he can play tackle in a pinch but not well. He's a guard, not a guard/tackle hybrid.

I can't disagree with that. Or agree with that. I haven't looked into any of the WRs available because I'm not really interested in drafting any this year. I'll take your word for it that he's very good but there certainly hasn't been any buzz about him being the next Julio Jones. At least not that I've heard.

There is certainly a very good argument to be made for drafting a WR early. I get that. I just don't think our primary needs coincide with that. We used a 1st and a 2nd round pick to draft Tavon last year and this year it's time to spend our resources somewhere else IMO.

He's got some Julio Jones to him...but he's not as big or strong. However, he's more fluid and cuts better than Julio did. I'd have Julio a little bit above him as a prospect but Watkins is of that caliber. As is Mike Evans. Both are top 10 picks in my book.

I agree. Need to fix the OL before we worry about adding more weapons.
