Someone needs to light a fire under Goff’s @ss. He plays with no urgency or passion to score. The #1 pick needs a swift kick in the butt.

The guy was begging to play with a busted throwing hand. I don't question his passion or desire.

they probably feel has no appetite to get better.
I think we differ on what we saw during the playoffs. Green Bay was able to block four rushers with five. The Rams couldn't do that with six.

Pushing someone toward a cliff will produce resistance and motivation. Pushing someone over, not so much.

I really hate that we are under the magnifying glass now. Lookin’ like a dysfunctional ramily.

If we were getting adequate QB play from a guy making $35M per year we wouldn't be under the microscope.

When you're not getting a return on your investment everything gets analyzed.

Goff got the Rams to a super bowl. To my surprise he played well against GB. If we invest resources in protecting him, he can win the big game.

Uhm, the Rams got themselves to the Superbowl and to be honest with that team on offense that year so would have Stafford.

I'm not as keen on Stafford to the Rams, but everyone keeps using his stats and wins with the Lions.........................THE LIONS! Brady would have gone 4-12 with the Lions.

We all have opinions on this and they're all over the spectrum :)

Begging to play after he was called out by the head coach and the narrative already changed. It also doesn't mean he had been preparing up to McVay's standards, watching film, etc. doing all the things necessary to improve his game. Because that counts as passion and desire. Passion and desire to be great.

He's been tough his whole career so I don't think its fair to knock him for that, but I will never forget him sliding a yard short of the 1st down this season with the game on the line. Whether or not he came back with a hurt thumb in the playoffs, that play is indelible.

This comment is way off the mark.

agree to disagree as always brother, but if he was better at the other stuff there's no way McVay and Snead want to move on from him IMO . I hope you guys are right though and Goff stays and is a top 10 QB. Seems like a great kid.

Spot on. Sadly, McVay will never man up to his own role in the offense declining. He is a micromanager with a huge ego. I suspect that is why our staff are leaving, just as much as anything. Prove me wrong, Sean. Innovate. Get the most out of your players. I want to see the offense look like it's having fun playing football out there. Haven't seen it since 2018. The "we not me" coach quickly seems to have become a dictator lacking in self awareness.

While it is not really possible to be certain what is happening between McVay and the coaches and Goff, I think you guys have some valid points.

McVay has set a high bar for himself. This past year he hit a totally unexpected home run by hiring Staley to reconfigure the D, making it the strength of the team. Now the offense needs a similar kick in the ass.

The offense is totally McVay's own creation. From scheme to game strategy to personnel, play calling, role of the qb, process and communication. And it's no longer working as intended. Sometimes it's hard to live up to your own success. But McVay can't fire himself, as he did Wade Phillips. So it will require more creativity and new thinking from McVay himself to change it, no matter who is QB.

I hope McVay can take a big step back and reimagine the offense as a whole. Either bring it back up to speed or reinvent it. Maybe some brilliant new assistant coaches can bring some fresh ideas to the table. And if this means a new QB, a new passing scheme, run pass options, a new center, a new deep threat --- whatever it takes, so be it.

Just hope McVay can find a path forward for the offense as effective as the one he started on with the Rams.

Goff has his inconsistencies, but I could give you a list of QBs who struggled with everything but arm talent. And none of those guys had half of Goff's accomplishments. You don't accomplish what he has simply with arm talent. We'll see what happens this offseason. But the simple truth is that McVay and Snead are humans like the rest of us. They're good, even great, at what they do. But they get it wrong sometimes. I really hope they don't get this one wrong.

Get out of here. Stafford has never won a single playoff game in his career. His 2018 season was pretty much on par with Goff's 2020 season. Some of y'all are just nuts on this topic.

Stafford at his best was close to what Jared did in 2018 maybe once time statistically. In 12 years once with Calvin Johnson and throwing it 700 times.

When you're not getting a return on your investment everything gets analyzed.
You should also analyze your investment better before you stick your capital in it. You can't decide to buy a stock and then blame the stock when it doesn't perform to your expectations. You made the decision to buy so you should shoulder some of the blame.

You're only under the microscope because you didn't keep the problem in house.

Boy....you read right over it didn't you? Just to break it down in clearer terms:
You said: "Get out of here. Stafford has never won a single playoff game in his career. " - Yes and that would explain my statement of: " everyone keeps using his stats and wins with the Lions.........................THE LIONS! "

I think you keep trying to find an answer that works for your end game no matter what. Swap Stafford and Goff - Goff is the Lions QB in 2018.......what does he and the Lions look like?

I will also say this again - I am not on board with trading for Stafford. If McVay sees a different offense under Wolford why would he go with an older pocket QB?

Well of course the franchise should have waited and analyzed more.. Goff should have never been given that contract, that is so obvious now in hindsight.

But what do you want McVay and Snead to do about it now?? If McVay doesn't think Goff is his guy anymore, should he just do nothing and sit in limbo with a QB you no longer like? Just because you gave him a contract? Or should he be proactive and try to upgrade the position to improve the offense? I think its ridiculous to say "oh well we gave Goff the contract and we're stuck.. Woe is me."

McVay is an elite competitor and an aggressive thinker.. if he's not happy with the production somewhere, or the value he's getting from an overpaid player he's going to look to upgrade that spot. Regardless of who it is. Should McVay and Snead get criticism for paying Goff early? You bet your ass! But that doesn't mean they shouldn't do something about it.

Stafford's only got a couple years left and he's going to get drilled standing in there with this line. If they're going to mortgage the future again, they should get Mariota.

No way the Rams trade for Stafford.

I understand his interest in us, sure. But, ours in him makes no sense.

I just can't understand in what world Stafford is more valuable to anybody than Jared Goff. Maybe if I get shit faced drunk it'll make sense. I'll let you know tomorrow if that works.

He's not.

Which is why I've been saying that Goff has way more trade value than people think.

We drafted Goff in 2016. In the previous 10 years, we had one 8-8 season, zero winning seasons, zero playoff appearances, and a record of 50-109-1. The Lions drafted Stafford in 2009. In the previous 10 years, they had one 8-8 season, one winning season, one playoff appearance, and a record of 48-112. We were the Lions in the decade before Goff. If we were to swap Goff and Stafford in 2018, we'd have fared worse, and the Lions would have fared better.

The silliest part of shouting about them being the Lions is the fact that for about the first half of the year, Stafford had Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones, Golden Taint, and Theo Riddick. He also had a very good OL. His offensive coordinator, Jim Bob Cooter, had helped them to finish #7 in the NFL in PPG the year prior. Stafford was set up for success. Instead, he played mediocre football, the Lions lost games, the Lions traded Golden Taint before the trade deadline because they weren't going anywhere, and Marvin Jones got injured a couple weeks later, which led to Stafford performing even worse.

My start and end games are calling out bullshit when I see it. Goff gets shit on for his 2020 season (and I absolutely admit he wasn't good enough this year), which is about equal to Stafford's 2018 season. So to watch you sit here and try to claim that Stafford was every bit the player Goff was in 2018, when Stafford was performing poorly and Goff was playing like a top 5 QB, irritates me. The media gives Goff no credit. Fine. But to see people in this fanbase pull the same shit? No, I'm not going to abide that.

I'm confused here. Why would we mortgage the future on Mariota? Mariota is like Gardner Minshew. He would be a low-cost option in case Goff doesn't step his game up. Watson is the guy on which you mortgage the future.
