Makes me wonder just how valuable an old worn-out safety like Weddle starting in those last four games was worth to Nick, in comparison to what our current starters Fuller/ Rapp did all throughout the regular 2021?That's what the eyeball test confirmed as well.
.
If Burgess can return to perform the way he was just before his nasty serious injury with both a broken ankle & foot back in 2020.......IF he is in that place again there is no way that Rapp or Fuller could beat him out from starting.Random Ramsdom: Taylor Rapp, Nick Scott each enter pivotal contract season

Terrell Burgess showing 'really encouraging things' at Rams OTAs
Sean McVay has been encouraged by what he’s seen from Terrell Burgess in OTAs, as well as other DBstheramswire.usatoday.com
That would be great because he could start at FS and keep Fuller at SSIf Burgess can return to perform the way he was just before his nasty serious injury with both a broken ankle & foot back in 2020.......IF he is in that place again there is no way that Rapp or Fuller could beat him out from starting.
Like that hundred you had folded up and stuck between your business cards find.Nick Scott’s emergence was like finding money. Entirely unexpected and most welcome.
That would be the best situation for Morris to have. Burgess only played 7.8 % of the defensive snaps last season so he contributed very little. Most know by now I am not a fan of either Taylor Rapp or Jordan Fuller starting period but Fuller might (doubtful) be able to contribute slightly better by playing up more than the back end. That would be great because he could start at FS and keep Fuller at SS
I find this interesting because when Fuller went down, they didn't have anyone that could call the defense. Also Rapp has his moments, two interceptions against the Giants, but is limited because his coverage skills are not good. Most know by now I am not a fan of either Taylor Rapp or Jordan Fuller starting period but Fuller might (doubtful) be able to contribute slightly better by playing up more than the back end.
I would hope that DC Morris will find two new starting safeties this season. It would be best if Fuller was considered an experienced reserve, he does not have enough talent to make plays or the ability to be a starter. IR'd the first two seasons in the NFL indicate he can not remain on the field without getting hurt.
I would prefer that in the end & the beginning of the regular season we will see both Nick Scott & Terrell Burgess as the starters with rookies safety Quentin Lake & Russ Yeast increasing their snaps on the field. Jordan Fuller would be a good 5th safety. Rapp is considered is an ILB'er from now on or traded away for future draft picks.
I didn't see enough of Burgess to know he shies away from contact.. seems to me it's more an issue of he doesn't know how to be in position to make contact.I find this interesting because when Fuller went down, they didn't have anyone that could call the defense. Burgess issue is tackling, he struggles in that area and Fuller is far better plus Fuller offers more from the neck up. I have high hopes for Quentin Lake & I love Nick Scott who hits like a truck plus Eric Weddle was very good in run support, this is how the Rams stopped the running game against San Francisco by brining up Weddle to the line of scrimmage to offer more support. They might not need that as much with Wagner & Jones in the middle.
Again we will agree to disagree on Fuller, Burgess again seems to shy away from contact and is one of the reasons he was not on the field that often. Glad he stepped up in OTA's, but lets see what happens when the pads go on as this is where Fuller seems to pass Burgess every single time, that and what Fuller offers from a cerebral standpoint.
That could be true, but I felt that Burgess strength was his coverage skills being that he played a CB/S hybrid at Utah, however, Burgess could not get on the field last season and there was a report about his tackling so it could be taking bad angles to make the play and wrap up, but it again, hopefully, Burgess can take a step forward because all of us were wondering where he was last season.I didn't see enough of Burgess to know he shies away from contact.. seems to me it's more an issue of he doesn't know how to be in position to make contact.
It was only one play… but he had an excellent solo tackle of Kittle late last season. He just doesn't really flash at all out there. You can find guys off waiver wires and UDFAs who can do that. Him being beaten out by Fuller in his draft year when Fuller was taken after him was a bad indicator. But him not being able to win playing time given how poorly our safeties played for much of the year... Even worse. That could be true, but I felt that Burgess strength was his coverage skills being that he played a CB/S hybrid at Utah, however, Burgess could not get on the field last season and there was a report about his tackling so it could be taking bad angles to make the play and wrap up, but it again, hopefully, Burgess can take a step forward because all of us were wondering where he was last season.
It can work both ways with sons of former players, sometimes they are more ready knowing what to expect, however, in Hopkins, we've seen that it has taken awhile. I like Lake I believe he has the ability and hoping he realizes it's time to bring each and every day at this level. We will soon find out. That's my concern with him. Compare him to Scott for example, who came up hard with fight and desire to win his roster spot on teams. So my expectation from the human nature side of things tells me Lake probably will be a year two guy if at all. But of course hopefully I'm full of shit and he comes into camp on fire.
Scott was a core member of the special teams unit who played sparingly on the defensive side of the field until the injuries hit. Los Angeles has a knack for being able to develop players to play more meaningful snaps, and Scott is another case of them finding talent to mold around their star core of players.
