It would not surprise me, given the numbers of knowns we are replacing with unknowns.

Earier today I was perusing the NFL team stat from 2022 and stumbled upon the fact that the Rams had the worst offense in the entire NFL as measured by yards gained. I knew we were bad on that side of the ball last year, real bad, but not that bad.

Having the worst defense in 2023 would be quite the bookend.

Our QBs got sacked 59 times. Only 2 teams had more.

And Evans gave up 50 of them

Okay okay - not that bad but man it seemed that way with on average a 16 PFF grade on pass blocking

One of the few times that I really agreed with PFF.

Raheem's defense can have us pulling our hair out. Pitch and catch 10 yard cushions. Allowing time consuming drives. Frustrating to say the least. But the funny thing is, at the end of the 60 minutes the other team doesn't score as much as you would think. That is what bend don't break defenses are designed to do. Keep everything in front and wait for the mistake by the offense. Limit them to field goals. If they can do that well enough and let the offense do their thing, I can see them surprising us with more wins.
The thing is - I can see us giving up more TDs than FGs this year because we lost both Wagner and Ramsey.

I believe those two players were a huge reason why we got stops near the goal line.

Staff was pressured and under duress even during our SB run. He was so clutch over and over. Imagine how he'd be with D's distracted by a legit running game threat.

I agree he was pressured and under duress during the SB run but nothing remotely close to what he had to endure last year.

Last year was horrible.

Evans? or Edwards?

Morris is the only reason this defense will be ranked at the bottom. He dropped the #1 defense to 15th his first year and 21st last year. But PFF in their infinite wisdom says he's the 7th ranked DC? He had Donald, Wagner and Ramsey and he dropped them to the 21st ranking? Why do you think Wagner and Ramsey wanted out?

If played correctly I see this as a top 10 defense in 2024. If played correctly I think they can finish in the top half of the rankings this year. But Raheem would have to be only calling plays and not coaching how the scheme is played. Read react is a stupid concept and is how Raheem had his secondary playing. Read anticipate is how you should play a secondary in zone. This allows the DB to jump the route at its top and go for the ball.

Yeah our 4 different starting QB’s playing behind about 20 different OL combinations and throwing to Sko, Atwell and some other guys for long stretches without much of a run game.

That team won 5 games somehow. We just need a relatively healthy season.

And 2 of the QBs couldn't throw accurately beyond 20 yards

No kiddin. Imagine if Shanny had gotten him. Dear God that would have been catastrophic.

Just another example of how an elite organization starts at the top.
