One interesting thing about his created stat is to what extent the QB factors in. Stafford being a veteran and one who is very good at anticipating blitzers backs up our OL line calls which I would think gives them a lot of advantage. Whereas the moment a depth chart QB is behind center the calls are going to be of noticeably lesser quality I'd think.

Now Wentz I'm sure would be better there than Rypien. But still both are undoubtedly far below Stafford in that respect.

That was kind of half my point. If the Rams draft between 10-14 overall, I don't know that Fashanu is there.
Don't know that Latham is there in the low-to-mid 40s; or that Van Pran is there in the mid-to-late 70s.

The other half of my point would be whether it is wise to use all the prime-draft-capital on one position.

A couple other points would be the wisdom of have three rookies and a second-year player starting on the Offensive Line; plus, I think Rob Havenstein's contract extension likely puts him on the Rams' roster in 2024. Please don't tell Old-Not-Dead I said that.

Henderson can pass block... that's why Mcvay trusts him.

Henderson is also a good receiver.

He's also good on less than ten yards to go in the redzone, he's got a nose for the endzone.

If they were to hit on a LT then it also frees up Jackson for OG or to fill that swing OT role. From there the OL has some great bone structure with Avila and Hav plus that young blindside.

From there we'd have a hole at RG (paying Dotson would be a mistake), but also internal options to fill it like Jackson and Boom. Which is a hell of a lot better than counting on them at LT.

Also it would be nice to see an upgrade at Center. But you can find those into midrounds and they do hit the FA market unlike LTs which are much harder to find that route.

Last but not least if you have two stud OGs you can have an iffy center because generally speaking that center will be duoing or being protected from each side. And Guards are relatively easy to find, easier than center I think.

So what I'd like to see is two "resources" used on the OL this offseason on a LT and an interior lineman addition. One could be a FA. But no matter how you slice it you're best served getting that LT in round 1 or 2, and round 2 only works if it's a real early pick. Because it seems like only clear RT types are left by mid second.

Sadly not.

I really enjoy Thorn's analysis and cut-ups. Seems like a guy worth listening to. He says Alt is best prospect on the line he's seen in a number of years.

I believe that I have a minority opinion on that one.
IMO, AJ is passable in a balanced offense, but is questionable in a pass happy offense.

Problem is you gotta pay them to keep them past that first contract window. So the reality is you can pay a couple OL, maybe a few depending on how you spread your investment on the roster. And around those guys you pay you need role players, those types who grind and get the job done.

Yeah.. worth keeping a close eye on rest of the way.

If you’re gonna spend a 1st on a tackle.. he better be a first day starter, imo.

I think AJ is middle of the road as a LT. League average. Maybe slightly above average in run blocking. Not as consistent as you'd see in a top 10 tackle and that hasn't really changed as the years proceeded.
