The NFL and CFL announced an officiating partnership on Friday morning that will see NFL officials working during CFL games this summer.

A group of officials will work CFL preseason and regular season games in June and July before their NFL responsibilities begin with the league’s annual officiating clinic in July. They will serve as field and side judges in order to minimize the impact of rules differences. Some of those differences include a wider group of plays subject to replay review and the use of a video official who can correct mistakes made by the on-field crew.

NFL vice president of officiating Dean Blandino believes the experience will help the officials get better at their usual jobs.

“Any time our newer officials can get more reps on the field, during practices or games, that will make them better officials,” Blandino said. “The collaboration with the CFL will certainly benefit us as we prepare for the 2016 season and we look forward to welcoming our CFL officiating counterparts to our development program later this spring.”

Some CFL officials will join the NFL’s Officiating Development Program as part of the agreement between the two leagues.

I think the biggest problem, is that the league keeps adding ridiculous rules, that are too difficult to officiate at game speed.

Does anybody, really even know what a catch is anymore? Not at game speed we don't.

This is True, But it's a different size field, and the rules are not the same, so these guy's might get things confused when they come back to the NFL!! Just a thought! "Murphy's Law", You know what I mean!?

That's why they're only allowing side and line judges...

  • The language pertaining to a catch was clarified to provide a better understanding of the rule. In order to complete a catch, a receiver must clearly become a runner. He does that by gaining control of the ball, touching both feet down and then, after the second foot is down, having the ball long enough to clearly become a runner, which is defined as the ability to ward off or protect himself from impending contact.

  • If, before becoming a runner, a receiver falls to the ground in an attempt to make a catch, he must maintain control of the ball after contacting the ground. If he loses control of the ball after contacting the ground and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete.

  • Reaching the ball out before becoming a runner will not trump the requirement to hold onto the ball when you land. When you are attempting to complete a catch, you must put the ball away or protect the ball so it does not come loose.

Good plan.

Make them learn different rules because they ALL have a fantastic grasp of the NFL rules.

And like Mac said.......not full time refs but they need more work......hahahahahahaha

Fuck the refs union. Fuck them. Fuck them. Fuck them.

Well if this is step one in making the CFL the NFL's minor league I'm all for it.
