The conversation was about whether the Rams really want a center fielder type of safety. It seems to me that they get box safety types and use them in every safety role. I honestly can't remember the last center fielder type safety that the Rams have had the best example I could come up with was Joyner, who also IIRC was a CB in college. But they used him in the slot a lot along with nickle coverage and more of a box safety when he wasn't doing that.
You could be right. We never really know what the Rams want. They often have ignored the OL when I thought it was a need for example.

And I'm not arguing with adding a free safety center fielder type heck last year I kept mocking them to us along with a box safety. I just wonder if like ILB they don't overly value that type of player that's all. Just thinking out loud and replying to stuff to start conversations. Hoping somebody has an example that proves my theory wrong.
If the offense would show up a little sooner, it would limit the opponents time of possession in the first quarter and perhaps the defense simply continues to do their job.

We used him as a box safety and he played as much box safety in college. When he went to Cleveland they didn't use him as a box safety and he was a massive failure leading to his release and rejoining with the Rams as a box safety. He has coverage abilities. He may have lined up a lot as a free safety, doesn't mean much TBH without going back and watching college tape and looking at how he was used instead of how he was labeled. But that's the thing, he wasn't primarily used in the box with the Rams. He was used as an FS and SS. IIRC, the Rams haven't used the FS and SS designations under McVay. They've used their guys in dual roles under Wade, Staley, and Morris.Got it be bothered
JJ3 has had success in the NFL with the Rams as a box safety what he was labeled at in college IMO means nothing compared to that.
