See? Don't feel sorry. Everything worked out for Verse.

Poor dude got to see Matthew Stafford and now has these two

Pfft. Shedeur Sanders? Elite?! And Deshaun Watson, who hasn't played in almost two years and hasn't produced since his Texans days in 2020? Elite?!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

Unfortunately, Verse is trying to cope with the trade in the best way he can. I feel bad for him, but Myles Garrett is much more productive.

Watson was never elite. Verse is just trying to build the confidence of his team

To be fair to Watson, in 2020, he was elite, even though the team around him sucked, and he was actually very good for the Texans during his career with them. Threw for over 4,000 yards twice (and when he didn't, it was 3,852 in 2019 and 1,699 in seven games in his rookie year, which has a 4,116 pace), had seventeen rushing touchdowns with 1,677 yards, thirty-three touchdowns to seven picks in 2020, and never had a completion percentage below 61.8 with the Texans.

He was great with the Texans. It just so happens that he's a piece of horseshit, sucked with the Browns, and is coming off of a major injury that he hasn't played in two years from.

He's not an elite quarterback anymore, and he never will be. Shedeur will never be elite, no matter how much Mel Kiper pines for it.

Verse is just trying to cope with losing his buddies, Fiske and Agent Zero, and being sent to the Factory of Sadness.

I feel bad for Verse, but at least he has Ohio roots. He is a great teammate and shows more maturity than these divas like aiyuk or aj brown. Being traded from the LA Rams to the browns is much worse than anything those divas have dealt with and Verse handled it with class and dignity.

I agree. Still love Verse, and I wish he wasn't the one traded for Myles...but I will say that the Garrett trade is an absolute slam-dunk win for us, thus far, and he's well worth the price.

I’ll give you 2020 as a very good year for him, but elite? Nah. That word is too generously tossed around. Nobody is calling Kirko Chains elite, yet he performed at a similar level for much much longer.

The two years prior to 2020 that roster was very very good. He had 2020 and then had the scandal, but why hasn’t he been able to do anything remotely close to that since returning?

I don't care what Verse thinks of his new team. Not my problem. Fuck the Brownstains.

Again, 4,000+ yards with the mobility to get at least 400 yards rushing a year (the 4,000 which he did in two years and was on pace to do that in his rookie year before his injury)? I don't know how you don't call that elite production. That was better than a lot of QBs could dream about.

He's an absolute piece of shit that I personally loathe, but you can't deny that he had elite production in two seasons, was very good in his third, and was on pace for elite production in his rookie year before his injury - and this was without HOFer (AND WHY THE FUCK DID HE GET IN BEFORE HOLT?!) Andre Johnson, who retired before Watson came into the league.

Elite is obviously very subjective but assuming you assign it to the top 3-5 QBs in the league, Watson was never in that category imo

Interesting bit of controversy regarding Garrett. Jadevon Clowney apparently had some issues with Cleveland after the 2022 season.

Clowney’s criticisms about the team had to do with former edge rusher Myles Garrett and how, at the time, Cleveland seemed to be prioritizing Garrett’s sack totals over the broader defensive scheme.

How?
The Browns had the #15 defense (in yards) and #20 defense in points.
They ranked #5 against the pass and #8 vs the run. Garrett had 16 sacks and Clowney had 2.

Clowney was inactive for 5 of the 17 games. Weeks 3 and 4, 6, 16 and 18. Why was that? Is that what he meant by prioritizing Garrett's sacks? Sitting Clowney? He had 1.5 sacks the first two weeks and 0.5 the next 10 games he played.

Maybe somebody with more knowledge that I can explain to me how the Browns prioritized Garretts sack totals over the broader defensive scheme.

Cleveland's Andrew Berry explained it this way....

“But in this case, a moment of weakness, he made a mistake. It’s something you talk through. We’ve maintained a good relationship with JD since, really since 2022. And I think the second thing is we had him for two years and it was certainly a lot more positives than negatives despite how it ended. … So we do feel comfortable bringing him back into the organization if it’s the right fit on both sides.”

So is Berry saying Clowney made a mistake.....that they didn't prioritize Garrett's sack over the broader defensive scheme....or Clowney made a mistake by airing his complaint? Inquiring minds want to know.

Who cares? If they did that then it’s the Browns’ fault, not Garrett’s

Hypothetically speaking, if we take Clowney's reference to "the broader defensive scheme" and assume that Clowney is actually talking about getting sacks for himself, it should make more sense. So, it's Clowney whining that the team is over focused on a scheme designed for Myles to get single team and other optimized rush opportunities, instead of getting him (Clowney) opportunities, and that Berry knows that Clowney was being a selfish whiner.

Or not.

I believe you hit the nail on the head. It's not like Garrett had a couple of good years on bad defenses. The Browns had the #5 D in 2021, #14 in 2022, #1 in 2023 and Garrett had 16, 16 and 14 sacks. So, even if they were tailoring the D to get Garrett more sacks, it was a smart decision. Clowney has played in the NFL a dozen years for 7 teams and has yet to have a double digit sack season.
