First-off, like most here, I really liked Verse and wish him well.

Verse had three quality pass-rushers with him on a high majority of passing plays the prior two seasons.
Young on the outside, with Turner and Fiske inside was a formidable foursome. They all helped one another.

Now, can anyone ... off the top-of-your-head ... name the top pass-rushers Myles Garrett has played along-side the past few years (2023-2025)?

I could not. So I looked-it-up ...
... an aging Za'Darius Smith, Maliek Collins, Alex Wright and old-friend / former-Ram Obo Okoronkwo.

That's It!!!
I think that should bode (under-used word) very well for Garrett ... Young ... Turner ... Fiske ... Stewart
Here's a quick trivia question. Myles Garrett has gotten 10 or more sacks for 8 straight seasons now. How many of Garrett's teammates have had 10 or more sacks in a season during his entire career?

Well, this trade sure put a dent in the number of Dan Villari posts on here.

Incredible.... hard to focus the last 24 hours lol.
My only "concerns":
- Myles is a 4-3 DE. The other side is Young. Can we switch to a 4-3 defense? We've already invested a lot in 3-4 lineups, and have quite a number of 3-4 DT's (Fiske, Turner, Davis, etc.) and TWO NT's (Poona & Keenan III).
- Young is certainly a 3-4 OLB. But, had the Rams shipped him instead of Verse, I can see Verse as a better fit at 4-3 DE than Young.
I guess it all comes down to, if we switch to a 4-3 D-Line.
But... uhhh.... I don't think this really matters because we just got MYLES GARRETT.
Go Rams!

I heard yesterday the Rams put opponents in 3rd and 7 or more the second most in the NFL (behind Denver). Yet they weren't close to Denver in sacks (-21). Garrett should change that this year. He's going to be playing defense for a team that will be leading in the 4th quarter, not trailing like the Browns. He's going to be playing with a chance to play in a Superbowl. He's going to be playing in front of a very good secondary. And he going to be playing for a team that creates passing situations as much as any team in the league.

I don't view it as that big of a difference.

There really aren't 3-4 OLBs vs. 4-3 DEs like there used to be.

Mostly they are Edge defenders, with comparable responsibilities. Set-the-edge in run defense; and rush the passer from an outside spot on passing downs.

Some mostly (but not exclusively) put their hand-in-the-ground ... like Myles Garrett; while others usually (but not exclusively) are in a stand-up position ... like Verse and Young. They are actually, pretty-much lined-up in the same spot, with the same responsibilities.

In fact, except for obvious run situations, most teams are playing a 2-4-5 defense the majority of the time, with two DL, two Edge, two off-ball-LBs and five DBs

I can’t believe we only gave up one first rounder and then a 2028 second round pick and a 2029 third round pick. Almost seems like we fleeced them.
Jared Verse was also a 1st rd pick, so its like 2 1sts plus the future 2nd and 3rd round picks.

I remember more than a couple of times last season where I screamed at the TV, "come on Verse get to him". He was often just a little too late and too slow. He will be a good player for the Browns but I feel bad for him. He went from a SB contender to a team that is not going anywhere.

That's what we said about Goff. Didn't take long for him to bounce back and turn them into a contender.

Verse is a good leader and will have the Browns d humming. The Browns will get their qb next year and will be on the rise.

.

More picks to send Young.
Verse gives them ability to say to fans they got a Pro Bowl first round player back.
Young outplayed Verse last year anyway.
Young did not out play Verse. Sacks are only 1 aspect of their play. Verse was way more disruptive than Young and many of Youngs sacks came cleaning up the mess Verse caused.

They certainly have seen the “misses” as we have, but maybe it’s the lack of development in terms of secondary moves. The Rams could have seen verse as already playing at his ceiling.
Just guessing to rationalize the trade. Garrett, as we know, will bring more sacks (supposedly).

As for the BY instead of verse camp, BY plays a different role and is good at it. Over the years the Rams have brought in a number of Edge/OLBs, but only rewarded one (floyd) with a second contract—he did a great job of containing the edge. BY is a helluva player and could now be looking at a second deal.
This Garrett trade actually gives the Rams more cap space the next 2 years and the 3rd year aint bad. Maybe they can extend Both Young and Turner with the extra room. I do think it will be hard to find someone to replace Youngs versatile on the edge. Its not just about sacks. He has made more than one play keeping a fast QB from getting to the outside.
