And everyone has their own opinion so I’m not gonna let your challenge slip by without a response. I do believe Verse has all the tools to be a superstar. Is he at the level of Garrett right now ? Obviously not. But he’s two years into the NFL with a Defensive Rookie of the year and two Pro Bowl appearances in his coffers and that trajectory simply can’t be diminished. So that’s my take and it’s simply not changing because you differ in your assessment.

Edit. I've since come around to the fact that Verse is better than i originally gave him credit for. Your take is more accurate than mine. He’s closer to suoerstar than star.

Cheers Buddy!

Still unlikely, I would think. Maybe even less likely - Garrett is not cheap.
Ah, the $$. For me to accept this deal, I figured between Garrett and verse, someone was gonna be getting around $40mil/per—Which Garrett is already getting paid.

Who has proven to be at that level and who would we be hoping is going to continue an upward trajectory to justify that pay?

Don't get me wrong, this is a tough pill to swallow right now because I wanted to see verse get a ring with the Rams.

Think about the butterfly affect here.

The trade down with Atlanta last year led to Trey McDuffie & Miles Garrett. Without that move, no extra first. So likley no McDuffie trade, and then probably no Simpson. So of no Simpson, then they probably don't move next yrs #1 without their future QB already in the fold. So then no Garrett trade.

Thank you Raheem!

More picks to send Young.
Verse gives them ability to say to fans they got a Pro Bowl first round player back.
Young outplayed Verse last year anyway.
Yeah but how many more picks, and how high?

From everything I heard / read yesterday, Cleveland was not interested in a trade unless Verse was included; and it still took Verse, #1, #2 and #3. That suggests that Young and two #1s might not have been enough.

Also, with the 5th year rookie option for former 1st rounders, Cleveland has control of the 25-year-old Verse for three more years. By comparison, Young is 28 and is a free agent next year.

Initially loved it because I thought it was a straight up swap. Now Im kinda meh with our 1st attached. Why would the Rams have to give up a 1st? Both are great players. Garrett is the better pass rusher but Verse is super young.

Don’t like the pick attached but love the player swap.

I think most don't realize how good Garrett is because he played for the Browns. Through a players first nine years, only Reggie White has more sacks.

He truly is in that AD space. Not quite AD, but he's in that ball park.

And all that production came playing for a team who never had the lead...

First-off, like most here, I really liked Verse and wish him well.

Verse had three quality pass-rushers with him on a high majority of passing plays the prior two seasons.
Young on the outside, with Turner and Fiske inside was a formidable foursome. They all helped one another.

Now, can anyone ... off the top-of-your-head ... name the top pass-rushers Myles Garrett has played along-side the past few years (2023-2025)?

I could not. So I looked-it-up ...
... an aging Za'Darius Smith, Maliek Collins, Alex Wright and old-friend / former-Ram Obo Okoronkwo.

That's It!!!
I think that should bode (under-used word) very well for Garrett ... Young ... Turner ... Fiske ... Stewart

Color me shocked along with many of you. Yes we got a great player. Even if he doesn't have another 20 sack year he's still a smart player who will hold up his area, cause some havoc, and not lose contain. Definitely a player to contend with, though age is obviously a factor. But many of the great DEs have played into their mid-late 30s and still were near the top of their game though their sacks had dropped off. He'll still get his sacks. But pretty much every DE who got 19-20-some sacks never reached that high number again the rest of their career. With the exception of... you know who...Deacon Jones. So I'm not expecting him to have sack #s in the high teens or low 20s, but would be pleasantly surprised if he did. Hell I'll be ecstatic if he is a consistent top 5 in the league with sacks. He'll still be a top 5 DE even if he doesn't haul off that many. All he has to do is have more sacks than Verse through most of his later years, have more of a defensive impact, and be that vet closer that McVay needed. Oh and we need that title in a 3-year window. Still hurting for our young former future DE, but overall we obviously got better. Now we see if the trade worked in our favor on the field.

As for Byron can the Rams afford him so we have a nice bookend set? Would hate to lose him but damn that position got crazy expensive.

A bird in the hand.....

Verse seems like he's going to be a great player.
Garrett is clearly a great player.

I didn't like giving up Verse but the first round lottery ticket I'm fine with.

Look at Garretts career stats. I think Verse will grow into a player whos just as good. Last year was an anomaly for Garrett and is 30 yrs old. I dont think this moves the needle for us winning a SB and shortens the longevity of what could be a very dominant line.

You could also look at it this way. The Rams got that defensive force to "replace" the "Donald impact" that they were wanting to see something close to in Verse. McVay wants "that guy" on defense again.

Funny how the one outlet says the Rams were the only ones to go after Myles. Well they were told no a few times, maybe other teams were told no and gave up. Or they didn't have the ingredients to pull it off. The Rams were persistent when it looked like the Browns would never trade him. They kept pecking until they got their man. Pretty much a never say never situation.

Yep, Verse might be a top 5 pass rusher right now based on pressures more than sacks. He is that type of player that will probably remain a top 5 pass rusher for the next 5 or 6 yrs.

However, Garrett is probably a top 5 pass rusher of the last 35 yrs. Thats a big difference. Garrett is up there with Reggie White, Bruce Smith, AD, LT, etc...

I have an adage for that.

Persistence beats resistance.

Rings true in this case

Great points. Never looked at it that way.

2 things:

1) can't believe people are still talking about a #3 WR

2) Glad we won't have to endure opponent 1st downs after a 3rd and 9 anymore.
