I totally agree that Hampton is the better back. I've said all along that I wish we would get some kind of decent offer for Kyren and trade his this offseason before extending him. In that situation, Hampton would be great.
Keeping both would be even better.
I keep posting this, but a scenario where we run Omarion in the 1st half, jump out to a lead, then grind down the D with Kyren in the 2nd half. Both backs stay fresh for a deep run thru the playoffs.
No, Kyren is not a power back, but his vision gets you 4-6 yards every run, he just doesn't have the burst we are looking for. With the addition of Omarion, we can start much faster. He does indeed remind me of Gurley, a LOT, but McVay overused him & we had to rummage through the dustbin to find CJ Anderson to get us through the playoffs.
I know, it would be a luxury pick, we gotta a lotta other needs on this team, but man...
I do like the drafts with Tuten though. He could allow us to do the same thing.
Blake can still be there to back up KW. I'd like to see more of him, sure, but what we did see, he's just not as fast as OH or Tuten.

I don't think its the overuse that caused Gurley to retire early, it was his knee which we knew about when we drafted him. Oh what could have been...

Why do you say this?

~ArkyRamsFan~
Because we don't need another guy who can turn 3 yard runs into 5 yard runs.
We need a guy who can turn 10 yard runs into 25+... and 25+ into home runs.

Kyren and Corum do enough of what he could do. They need real speed out of the backfield now.

Yep. 100%.
So many runs I saw of KW, he gets thru the 1st level but gets caught up in the 2nd level because he's just not fast enough.
...but, in his defense, he gets thru the 1st level when most other RBs, even fast ones, are getting tripped up in the backfield because they just can't see the holes that KW does. That's why a combo of KW + OH or Tuten would be so deadly.
But ya not Skattebo. Please, not Skattebo. If we didn't have KW on the roster, ya maybe. But this would be a waste.

To be clear... I think Williams is a very good RB.. especially as you describe and in pass protection.

I don't know, feels like Conerly is more a LT, not great choices at tackle around our 1st but he could be good, I think if you grab him, you try him at RT but he seems like he might end up being our LT in the future.
I really don't want Conerly. He was exposed at the Senior Bowl. Didn't do well at all. I like Josh Simmons a lot more if we're taking OT in the 1st.

Yeah, wonder if Simmons is gonna be there at 26th though... he seems the better prospect.

He keeps showing up on the mock draft simulators. I believe there's a decent chance he is there because of his injury.

But if he's not, I'm avoiding OT early. I'd rather wait until the 3rd for Belton and Trapillo.

More I think about it, more I wonder if the 1st round is gonna stray even more from mock drafts this year (it's not ever super close anyways) because of how flat the talent is at the top. Past top 10, draft may be all over the place. Scheme fit may take an outsized role in the 1st over production and talent.

Gonna be real interesting.

This was kind a fun since I've got no dog in the fight, as it were. Goal was to increase number of picks which I did but ended up being more about where the added picks were versus the quantity.

Lots of offers from other teams in Rd1-Rd5 also made it easier to do that work.

Everyone coming out of combine arguing that it's a buyer's draft. 1st round fairly weak compared to years past, incentive to trade up not great as a ton of guys all with similar grades and many not having 1st round grades.

Think it's gonna be hard for us to trade down but not impossible, maybe not be able to get great value in trade.

But if Rams zig when others zag, worth thinking what a trade up would look like and for whom (they may be able to give up a smaller set of assets than they would in other drafts).

As it stands now, anyone you'd want to trade up for?
Only trade up should be for Jeanty, TMac, or Warren, otherwise just be patient, I honestly can see an actual 1st round talent available at 26. One of Will Johnson, Shavon Revel, or Benjamin Morrison will most likely be available due to last years injuries but are all projected to recover and make immediate contributions right away. We need a young, CB1 on a rookie deal.

I like Jeanty but hard for me to want to trade up for him when I think that Hampton and a few others aren't that crazy far behind and the class is so stacked and we have Kyren.

TMac for sure if those rumors of character stuff are just that.

Warren, I'd love to in my fantasy but I don't think it's worth it. You're projecting him to be a Dallas Clark, Gronkesque guy (with a little wildcat accessibility thrown in) and I don't think that's wrong but it's still a tiny bit of a projection with him.

Given our additions in FA, I have a hard time thinking we'll zig instead of zagging here. I suspect a trade down will be attempted and otherwise we'll be picking from some nice pieces in the secondary or tackle and maybe pass catcher at 26. I do not think they will be 1st round talents though. It sure seems like first round grades this year end around player 12 in the draft.

IMO I could live with this draft. Touches some needs and adds depth.
